The old pick-up swerved into the parking lot and cut diagonal into two open lanes. The brakes slammed on just before it could mount the curve and plow into the shop front. Bobby-Jo was having a bad day, and a good day. The great metal beast's puttering stopped abruptly with the cut of the ignition.
Fancy, strapped into an old car seat, squealed with glee. Her mortality was a lost concept, but the momentum that propelled her forward against her restraints was fun! She clapped her webbed hands, wriggled eagerly. The redheaded woman was just about to lean over the girl and crack the window when she thought better.
Why, this was an alcohol store! Who knew what sort of crazy people were bound to come by? And there was her Cheeper, strapped up all pretty for kidnapping. Not going to happen. The woman undid her binds and hefted her toddler, wriggling, out of her seat. Slinging her over a boney shoulder, though gently, she slid out of the truck and waltzed her way into the shop. She was wearing a pair of jeans and a faded t-shirt, nothing formal and nothing ridiculous.
"Hush now." She murmured over her shoulder as she entered. Fancy was chirping curiously. Now, where was the good hooch?

Luna looked over to mariel for a brief moment as she drove her White Jeep Wrangler, a smile spreading slowly on her face. Mariel was in her car seat but her focus was entirely on what was outside her window. The child was reaching for the window and trying to catch the things that passed by. Luna laughed and turned into the driveway of the liquor store, she saw a large pick-up truck parked across a few spaces and gave it a strange look. She made sure to park at least 3 spaces away from it, this jeep was her baby and the only person allowed to dent it was her....and well nature but thats a different story. She cut the engine and unlatched Mariel from the car seat.
"Alright bokis, vamos a comprar cheve y pan." She crooned to Mariel who watched her lips move and kept a small fuzzy hand on Lunas lips, as if it would help her understand. Luna smiled and began to walk inside, when an idea struck her. She made her way back to the car and placed Mariel in the drivers seat for a moment as she got out a scrap of paper and found a pen. She scribbled the word milk in big block letters and handed it to Mariel before picking her up again.
"Ju will find dat for me, okay? Leche...Milk." Luna said to Mariel as they entered the store. Luna walked up to a counter with cereals in it and lifted the paper to the names, "See how none of dese match? you want the symbols to match okay?" Luna waited for Mariel to nod as she began to understand.
"Match!" Mariel yelled out as she found the L in L in lucky charms that matched the L in milk
"Jes thats right, but ju want them ALL to match." Luna laughed and put Mariel down, she watched as mariel held the paper and began to examine everything in sight before walking to the man at the counter. Some words and a 20 were exchanged that would assure Mariel was being watched, Luna then headed to the beverages section to begin her real shopping. Afterall she didnt want Mariel to be in the alcohol section!! That was no place for a young lady, she would have to be at LEAST 10 before she was allowed to know what was in those isles.
Mariel began to wander up and down the few isles that were in the store, she had tried to go outside almost inmediately after Luna was out of sight but she found that there was always a man who smelled of something rotten blocking the door. She didnt like the smell one bit and so decided to adventure in the other direction. She stayed in the cereal isle for quite some time, all of the colors and symbols on the boxes were fun to examine but there was nothing to touch so each box soon lost its charm. But then she saw a woman in the store with another brown child. someone like me?! Mariel thought happily as she began to run towards the Woman and the brown child, waving her paper like a banner.

Fancy saw the girl before her mother did, watching as Mariel hurried after them. She wasn't quite sure what to think so she just kind of hung there over Bobby-Jo's shoulder, wondering to herself why she couldn't be so free. She would like to run around as well! Though she knew she wasn't quite so good at it yet, and especially not on tile.
As Mariel got closer, the mudpuppy grew more excited, flailing on her perch and practically trying to slither over the woman's shoulder. Bobby-Jo swatted her right on her bum to behave and Fancy thought twice, bubbling with complaint but not really hurt. The flapping paper was what made Bobby-Jo turn her head. A furry child seemed to want to play tag-along.
"Well hay thar!" She called with a tight smile, her eyes searching the surroundings for the adult then the paper. "Is that fer me?" Did they get children to give out court summons now? She'd be caught.

Mariel saw the nice lady and smiled, still waving the paper and pointing to the brown child.
"Bwown!" Mariel said pointing at Fancy eagerly, then she began to wave the paper with purpose, "Milk!" She was still looking for the milk and finding these two had halted her quest. She wanted to play more than find the milk...but it was her job...yes Mariel had a dilema, but maybe these two could help her find her milk and bring it triumphantly to her mama. She poined off in the direction of where she thought her moma was,
"Moma need milk" Mariel was indeed pointing to the part of the store with no one, but she didnt know that, she wanted to look like she knew what she was doing.

Bwown? The hell was bwown? Bobby-Jo glanced over. "Oh! Bra-ow-n." She murmured mostly to herself and the toddler. Fancy had understood Mariel just fine, though, and wiggled her webbed fingers teasingly at her.
"Muhhh-miiiilk." Fancy repeated helpfully, smacking her lips.
"Yew need sum help?" The booze aisle could wait, really. Right? The old redneck woman glanced around for any signs of a parent she could lop this off to, found no immediate source, and sighed inwardly. "Well awlraht. It's raht over there, hun."
Her red-tipped finger pointed to another direction of the store, over to the dairy corner. As she did, Fancy managed to slide out of her hold and down her front by going limp. Bobby-Jo didn't even really have time to react before the mudpuppy was crawling across the tiles, making flopping, fish-like bounces in the given direction. Obviously the adult scrambled to snatch her up.

Mariel squealed with laughter as she saw the other girl slip down the adult and land on the ground. She ran towards the toddler just as the oman began to try to pick her up. Mariel bounced around both of them, thinking it was a game. It was a fun game! Maybe they had to dance in the direction of the milk!! Mariel pointed just like the lady had and smiled a big innocent smile.
"Milk, milk, milk!"
She said in almost a singsongy voice. She was having fun now! Maybe thats why Luna had let her go on this adventure! So that she could dance to the milk! Did you always have to dance when you had milk? Well she didnt actually have milk yet so she assumed that meant that once you got the milk the game was over. Mariel didnt want the game to be over. She frowned and wondered if she should help the little girl up. She tried to get closer to the other little brown girl but the mother was trying to pick her up and Mariel didnt like getting in the way of adults...they were too big, so she kind of stood there and waited to find an opening to dart in and help the other toddler out. OH Geeze it was all so FUN!!

Unfortunately for Bobby-Jo, her toddler was a squirmer, and quick. The girl was on all fours immediately and skittering across the tile as soon as the woman bent down, darting just out of reach. Once she was a few feet away, she had gotten to a stand and was running, screaming and laughing with maniacal, childish glee. She whipped around to face her mother, who was red in the face now, then to Mariel. Mariel was a worthy accomplice, being about her height.
"GO GO GO!" She commanded the girl, before turning about and beginning to run again for the dairy aisle.
"FANCY MARIE RHUBARB, YEW GETCHOOR a** BACK HERE!"
But that just seemed to spur the toddler on, climbing right into the tub where they kept the cheeses, where she began to toss packages in Mariel's direction as if she were slinging her a divine gift from on high.

Mariel squeaked and squealed with childish delight and did exactly as Fancy told her, she ran! Fancy caught up rather quickly and then jumped into a big thing full of stuff that smelled good! Mariel had dropped the paper that had the word milk on it in the mad dash to the dairy asile and so she assumed that Fancy was throwing her the milks she needed. She darted around trying to catch as many as she could and laughing the whole time.
"MILK!" She laughed and marched around with an armful of all kinds of cheese. Now that she had these she could maybe augment her mothers list with some goodies, being the dairy aisle there were all kinds of kid sized jugs of chocolate drinks and stuff so she tottered over towards them careful not to rop the cheese then let everything spill from her hands in front of the chocolate milks. She grabbed a couple of small bottles and waved them in the air like trophys.
"Good milk" She said matter-of-factly as she grabbed an armfull of the chocolate beverages, climbed over the pile of cheese and tossed them into the tub fancy was in with a smile.
Luna could hear all the commotion somewhere in the store and wondered what was going on. It was probably some mother who didnt know how to control her child...maybe even a tantrum. She smiled and laughed to herself, oh some mothers just dont know what to do with their kids. She was so glad she had mariel who she was sure was behaving like an angel....somewhere in this store...
