Lolita Princess Amanda Crystal Orchid Lolita Princess Amanda and please don't mention costumes because it's on halloween, this is a very important day to me and I want it taken very seriously You could mention to everyone in the invitations, if you choose to do so, that your wedding is "a-word-that-isn't-but-indirectly-is lolita-themed". A word like Victorian or Rococo might fill in there. If you want to put it right out there, however, you could simply tell people up front that "lolita is a style of fashion defined by bell skirts and lace -- it has little relation to Nabokov's novel, "Lolita", they just bear the same name".
When I first introduced lolita to my mother, her initial impression was that I intended to wear costumes every day of my life, and who could blame her, really? For those unknown to the style, seeing lolita on the street in the US is something far from our comfort zone of low-cut blouses, baggy pants, and anything else that covers our thighs without a bell shape. Sometimes, I just need to step back as a lolita and really look at what I'm getting into -- it is not something that everyone can accept and move on, but something that I choose to pursue.
What I'm saying is that by having your wedding, an extremely wonderful day of your life, be lolita themed and celebrating it on Halloween might give you geusts (or anybody, in truth) the wrong impression of your true intentions.well all my family and friends know I'm into japanese street fashion, or well japanese everything for that matter and my mother loves lolita clothes, cause they are elegant and femine. I was thinking of telling everyone it's victorian but I'm affraid that still isn't going to help at all. I might just sit all the guests down and explain it to them in person. But I honestly don't know anyone who thinks Lolita looks like a costume here O.o... thats kind of odd to hear honestly. It seems, then, that your mother knows at least, and maybe it would be more convenient if you told everyone at the wedding instead of going out of you way to say. What you think is odd to hear is what I would hear on a normal basis -- "What is she wearing?" and the like.

Hyped up TeaCup Congratulations! : D If I were you, I wouldn't bother going around to everyone to explain lolita to them. Some may not fully understand, they might even feel uncomfortable. Just tell them it's victorian themed and they'll get the picture ^^; I'd really like to see your dress. Sounds adorable. i agree! congrats on the wedding and i bet your dress is beautiful! 4laugh

So when you're having a Lolita wedding, what exactly does that entail? Is the Bridal Party wearing Lolita fashions, or just you? You and the groom? Are you wanting your guests to dress in Lolita fashion, because that is not a very feasible idea really.
If it's just going to be what you're wearing or the Bridal Party, then you can create a small pamphlet to hand out to your guests the day of the ceremony. You can explain a little about Lolita fashion and why you chose to incorporate it, and then have another small section explaining the origin and symbolism of the hand-fastening, and any other unique things you might be doing.
I have two friends who got married in May, and they did this to explain their own hand-fastening. Their booklets also included a poem one had written for the other, and a blessing that we all recited during the ceremony. It helps people who don't know the ins and outs of what you're doing feel included, and makes a wonderful keepsake of the day. (Plus, guests love them because it gives them something to read and chit-chat about while they're waiting for the ceremony to start! mrgreen )

Instead of stating its on "Halloween Night" or such, why not say All Hallow's Eve? This is suppose to be an important day, so perhaps you could do a little research on the subject unless you honestly just want to do it on Halloween because you like the Americanized holiday form. o.O;
