EVERY TIME I'm in the kitchen I get something to that effect. "Don't stir that dough too much Catherine, it will get tough." "Are you sure parchment paper won't burst into flames in the oven Catherine?" "We never use
milk in our pasta water."
It makes you want to strangle people! That's why I like doing kosher food, everyone just nods their heads and doesn't bother me.
Funny you should mention that.
I do a food column for the magazine I write for, I throw the recipe in, and make the food and photojournalize the end product.
I am waiting for the day my mother looks at me and DOESN'T give an opinion on what I'm making and what she can do to help.
And by help I mean, take over.
More recent conversation went like this.
"So are you gonna make that pecan pie?"
"Yeah, but I'm gonna make a sweet potato pecan pie."
"Why the HELL would you ruin a pecan pie with sweet potatoes?"
"Because it's more colorful, and has a nutritious effect on the over all piece."
"Are you still going to add chocolate chips?"
"Who said anything about chocolate chips?"
"I thought you were going to make a chocolate chip pecan pie."
"No mom, YOU said I was going to make a chocolate chip pecan pie, because you want me to make one."
Yeah... every time I have a recipe, she throws her opinions in. But I'll show her...
... I'm gonna make beer next time.
