Both Kou and Lorelei went to console their brother just before his suicide. Both devastated, they rescued his body from the rapid currents of the sea before it was swept away and brought it back to the pride where Aylara had stayed to tend to the others. (In Umi's entry) This is where Aylara's mixed emotions about her brother and step mother really sink in. Kou is stunned to silence, and retreats to the cave they share and begins to become a recluse. Lorelei forces herself to stay composed, if not for herself, but for everyone else.
As the Earthquake hits, Lorelei gathers her sisters and they begin to try and lead the pride away to a safer place. They head to a rocky mountain. (in Ice's entry) As the grounds begin to shake, Lorelei falls into a crevice, Kou tries to save a cub but fails as it plummets to its death, and is then trapped beneath a large boulder that mangles her leg. While trying to dodge said boulder, Aylara is separated from her sisters on the other side of the mountain as it starts to crumble and shes knocked down the hill. All three are then injured and separated.
