Speaking of the game section, two of the darts and shooting gallery owners were in a bit of a tizzy.

Most of them had been run dry by a 5'8 half-dog demon. This 5'8 half-breed had black haired that was in a boyish fashion. His eyes were the color of honey, but other then that, there wasn't really anything interesting, romantic, etc. about him. Other then his name, which was rather odd . . .

Kin had been good at the shooting and darts kinds of games. The darts were the product of hours of practice trying to beat his father at the game. He wasn't sure how he did so well at shooting, but why question why one was good at something?
Kin had won several things but he had disturbed them among some wide-eyed children that had gathered around to watch him at one stall.

Though for once she was on her own, browsing the games section when she had come upon a crowded darts game. Darts she was interested in, it involved throwing a sharp (more or less) pointy object how could she resist? She made her way over, her blue overcoat flapping behind her as she noticed there was already someone there dominating the game.

Dominate was an appropriate term.

The owner of the stall had been through the dart and shooting whirlwind that was Kin Inutaisho before. So that owner, being a good natured person, was calling out what parts of the dart board should hit next. And as Kin made 8 out of every 10 shots, the owner would give a toy to one of the children that had gathered about.

"Hey! Anyone think they could give Kin some competition?" the owner called out in jest. There was a ripple of laughter through the adults.

Kin's ear twitched, he really wanted someone to challenge him. But if he turned around he knew that the words would die in his throat. So he couldn't really taunt someone into playing the game with him, as Wolf could have done easily.

She couldn't help it, it would be nice to have a challenge like that without having to deal with her more... fanatical relatives. Lin sauntered through the crowd and stood beside Kin, she was like an imp next to him. She was just shy of five feet, if it weren't for her curves she might have been mistaken for a child.

"I will," she told the owner.

There were more ripples through the small crowd, first of shock then of amusement. Though were two drunken cries of "You go girl!"

Kin immediately perked up at the prospective of a challenger. His ears wiggled and turned towards the voice. True to his genetic nature, he looked like a puppy about to get a belly rub.
He was a little disappointed at her physical appearance, but he gave her an uncomfortable smile. He really wasn't a people person like his father.

The owner chuckled, "Well, well! Step up on little lady!" the owner paused to wink at Kin, "What's your name, sweetheart?"

Honestly did she look like a sweetheart type. Well unfortunately the answer was yes, Lin's large eyes (she never seemed to out grow them) and full lips made her 'sweet', which might explain why she couldn't glare to save her life.

"Lin," she replied before glancing a Kin, "It isn't much fun to do a game by yourself."

Kin tried to say 'Yeah', but when nothing came out, he just nodded his head and tried his best to smile at her. It looked more like a grimace.

"Lin?" Without waiting for a confirmation, the owner announced her name, "To get Lin warmed up then, how about we start--" the stall manager paused and turned to Kin, "Or for you, a restart," the crowd started to throw out suggestions. "So how about it, sweetheart? Just want to test yourself on the regular throw first?"

The half-breed hoped against hope that she would be an actual challenge . . .

Lin held out a hand for a dart, she grinned mischievously, "Sure, I'm sure I can handle a test throw."

At least to know how much the darts would weigh, this wasn't going to be like her knives after all, and darts had to be thrown differently.

The owner grinned and handed her a brightly colored yellow plastic dart. He dropped the of the darts into something that might have once been an Easter basket and placed it between Kin and Lin.
Kin's eyes glittered in anticipation. He crossed his subtlety his fingers, in hopes that the girl was any good.

"Alright, first, let's see if you can get close the middle sweetheart," the owner gestured towards the dartboard as he took of Kin's successes and a few misses.

It was light, at least compared to holding a throwing knife which was pure metal. So it was a bit odd at first to hold it, she weighed it in her hand for a moment or two before holding it between her fingers. She looked over her shoulder briefly, not at the people, but she was paraiod when she did things like this.

If she missed, she prayed Vincent would not be behind her, the stupid sadist basard.

Then, quick and hard she threw the dart, hearing the thud of it hitting the dartboard a moment later. It landed not dead centre, but it did land within the bullseye.

Kin's ears flew up in surprise, a grin spread across his face like the plaque, she was good! He grabbed a dart from the basket and let it fly. Kin's dart didn't hit the bullseye either, it landed on the outside of the bullseye rim. All cuddled up right next to Lin's dart.

To say the least, the hybrid was pleased. The darts and things always seemed to do what he wanted them to do, if he didn't think about it and just went with it.

She had a feeling he was doing that on purpose, and Lin eyed Kin for a moment, but could not help but grin. This was going to be fun, at least she thought so as she picked up another dart.

"Do this often?" she asked quietly as a fling of her wrist the dart flew landing to a near perfect hit.

"Yeah," Kin said through the side of his mouth. He picked up another dart, aimed, and fired. It wasn't as a perfect of a shot as his last one, because he had wanted it to get closer to Lin's dart . . . but he hoped his intention was obvious.

He was challenging her.

"I practice a lot," he added, quietly, still talking out of the corner of his mouth.
The hybrid cocked one ear to the side and the other stood straight up. He placed his hands on the stall wall as he waited for Lin to take 'her turn'.

"So...." Lin considered the dart, her last one was too close to the centre to get a bullseye right on, she picked another dart up, "You practice throwing things, I practice throwing things, we might need to spice this up a bit."

She considered it, did she dare try? Hell yes, after all what was life if she wasn't going to give herself a chanllenge or two. With a hard throw the dart cut into the air, and hit.... right on the back the dart that Kin had last thrown.

"Have any ideas," she looked at him.

Kin's eyes glittered gleefully. That was an acceptance to his challenge. His hands strayed towards the basket, but he quickly pulled it back. No reason to get too excited.

The dog-human hybrid chewed on that for a moment. "Your name," he muttered quietly, "Three letters right? Like mine. Could spell our names with darts," It would be fair. But only if her name really was three letters . . .
He gave her a questioning look, suddenly realizing that Lin may be like his mother, not able to write English.

"Only three letters long," Lin replied, "With probably only a one letter difference from your name."

It was weird how that turned out actually.

Kin grinned sheepishly at that. "Yeah, weird huh?" she was easier to talk to because she was so much shorter then he was. He didn't have to worry so much about eye-contact.

The owner relied the challenge to the rest of the audience while he separated the darts into two baskets. "Alright you two," he placed the two dart baskets in front of his new money-makers. "Here's out it goes. Three darts for the long parts of each letter okay?" the owner drew on a piece of paper, in case the instructions weren't very clear. "Two for the short, see? Like for the stick-outs for the 'K'. Two darts for the 'I' and a dart just far up enough to be the dot. Then one dart for the middle letter of the 'N',"

The owner gave them both a friendly smile. "Ready?"

While Kin and Lin's little 'greeting' had been going on, the owner's spouse had started to take bets on who would win this little venture. The betting was out of this world, but it seemed a little more than necessary.

"If he does, he probably forgot he even has them," Donovan told Ren honestly, "The security reports are all the same these days, always the same kids getting into trouble, they just all get filed away until we need them."

Lin mused on this, she had a it a bit easier than Kin, the only letter in her name that would give her trouble was N, but the K in Kin's name would require an extra dart and at an angle.

"Ready," she replied clearly as she picked up a dart.

Kin winced, the 'K' was going to be sooo hard to do. He almost regretted thinking up this challenge. But that's what made it a 'challenge' right? Doing something that was harder then what you were used too?
"Ready," he too picked up a dart.

"Ready . . . steady . . . go!" The owner yelled and the crowd cheered.

Kin had expected a '1,2,3' count, so he hesitated for a moment. Then threw his first dart. The bottom part of the 'K'.

She started at the bottom as well, for no other reason than to mark the invisible line in which her name was to be darted out. Another quick throw to the top, another to the side. Lin's brow furrowed as she focused on trying to make it as perfect as possible. It was always a habit of hers, one that Vincent would whack her upside the head.

In battle there was no time for perfection, but this wasn't a bad, it was to write her name with darts and she was going to be as perfect as possible!

Kin wasn't trying as hard to be perfect, he just wanted it too look like letters. This was something that had never really attempted before. Sure, he had done 'K's in darts on a board. But never for a challenge . . .

Three darts flew as fast as he could get them pick them up. [Which wasn't very fast, as he was fumbled for a moment with the second dart.] His 'K' was done. The he set to work on the 'I'. He was a little off-center as he started with the bottom again. It was closer to the 'K' then it should have been.

Lin was in the middle of her 'I' one would think she would be onto the end, but as stated she wanted it to be the best it could be. So she was sacrificing a bit on speed, not a lot, but enough where the advantage of her name left them on sort of even ground. Even though she just finished the 'I' with a shaky dot (wasn't quite on the mark as she would have liked) before starting the N.

Kin was only a dart ahead Lin at that point. The dot of his 'I' was perfect, but the entire letter was far to close to the 'K'. It looked like an extension of it.
He worked on the 'N' much slower. He hit his mark up until the dart used for the downwards slash for the 'N'. He winced at how far his trajectory was.

Lin eyed the slash, this was the most annoying dart out of all the ones she had done so far. The idea in her mind was to pick a spot, imagine a nice target on it and then hit it. Which after the dart had landed she thought, it was going to be a squished looking N. Still, with one more to go, all she had to do was finish off with a dart to mark it off.

Kin half-grinned, he was almost done. The good-feeling hormones that pulsed through his body blocked everything but the dart in his hand. The area The hybrid hardly had time to break out into a toothy grin as his last dart stuck into the carpet covered wall with a small resounding thud.

It wasn't perfect by any means. The 'K' and 'I' looked almost like a crazy form of a 'G' if one squinted and tilted their head just right. The 'N' wasn't symmetrical, but it was obviously an 'N'.

He glanced over at Lin too see how she had done.

It was official the N looked quite squashed indeed, though it was an N, the problem mainly was on another sense it could be mistaken for a rectangle if people didn't know how to connect the dots. Though the L and I turned out, but those were the easy letters.

Kin stared at Lin's letters, all and all she had done very well. Unlike his, her 'I' was spaced out enough where it wasn't connected to her 'L' [ or in his case, 'K'.] .
It pleased him to know that they both had screwed up on the 'N' a little bit.
"You did good," he smiled at her, brown eye glittered with childish glee.

The now enlarged crowd was yelling out who they had thought had won. The sides seemed to be pretty even on the issue.

The owner's spouse was still collecting bets here and there. But for now, it seemed to be at a stand-still. Who had won?

"So did you, after all you got the more difficult letter," Lin replied studying their work.

Kin was more sure of himself, so he had been faster than her, she thought to herself, and she spent too much focus on how it should look even though she had the easier letters.

"This might be a tie," Lin added absently.

"Thanks," he muttered out of the side of his mouth.
Kin nodded his head, there was a question on the tip of his tongue. But he worried about how it sound if he voiced it. He didn't want her too think that he was trying to pick her up or something, "Wanna go do something else for a tie-breaker?" He winced at how . . . TV-show dorky that sounded. He wasn't looking for a girlfriend, he was just a little too excited at finding someone challenging.

The owner was a little surprised but he called out what the two had decided.

There was a collective groan that rippled through the gamblers. But a single voice whooped, "Thanks Kinny, Lin!"

And Kin face-palmed and even the insides of his ears turned red. Great, now he was going to hear all about this on the next school day. A classmate just had to gamble on him and Lin having a tie . . .

"Sure," Lin replied, "Something that requires accurary and speed, that way we're on even ground a bit more, and something we both have to do exactly.."

She paused for a moment, tilted her head at the crowd before asking Kin.

"Someone you know?"

Kin nodded, his head still in his hands. "Yeah,"

Abruptly, a high pitched voice in the crowd cried out, "I know how to fix the tie-breaker!" Everyone in the crowd seemed to turn towards the owner of the voice. It was a Hentai schoolgirl stereotype if there was one. She was probably about 5'3 and she had boobs that could poke be considered weapons. As they were so unnaturally perky that she had to peek out over them. Her eyes were a bright cyan kind of blue. The kind that hurt to look in.
Her hair must have been five inches thick for her hair to be up in such pigtails . . . But what was most --interesting-- was her choice of attire. It was a bright pink school uniform that was five times to small for her enormous busts and stick body. In her hands she held a plastic looking fairy wand with a equally plastic looking jewel heart on type.
"Here!" The girl did some kind of hip-skip that made her skirt fly up in all directions, revealing white panties. "Happy Happy Sparkle Twinkle Wand! Please help these two break their tie!" The wand shot glitter at Lin and Kin.

Kin coughed and rubbed at his nose. The glittery crap had gotten up his nose.
"My work here is done," the plastic-fairy-wand-wielding-Hentai-girl bowed and walked off like nothing had happened.

"What was . . .?" Kin didn't have time to finish his sentence. Because whatever had just happened . . . had started set something in motion.

Because the owner of the stall was just barely able to escape a great gathering of plastic looking hearts that swarmed around. Each of the hearts had numbers ranging from 1 to 20. On the table where the darts had been placed before, was a new pretty ribboned and pink baskets that held a equally nausating inducing heart-deco darts . . . And a clock to match.

. . . sometimes Gaia was too weird even for long time inhabitants.

Lin sneezed twice at the insane amount of glitter and looked to see what had happened to the stall. She had no clue what just happened, but that was...

"Disturbing," she murmured taking a look at the end result, "I'm never going to look at the colour pink the same way again."

"Y-yeah," Kin breathed harshly out of his nose, a few flecks of glitter sprayed out of his nose like an aerosol can. "Ugh, excuse me,"
He glanced at the magically nauseating array of pink-heart deco items. "I think . . .we're supposed to use these,"

Duh.

Kin flushed a light color of pink again at his 'Sir-Point-Out-Obvious-Alot' habit. "Like, the timer and the hearts," he pointed at the numbered flying hearts.
They're were two of each number. So that meant they were supposed to each hit on right?

"I guess so...." Lin mused looking at them, "And since they are numbered... it would make sense to hit them in the order they go in. It would be a challenge.. and easier to tell which ones we haven't hit yet."

She watched him, he really got the glitter bad.

"Are you going to be alright?"

Kin rubbed his nose with the inside part of his collar before replying, "Yeah, sorry,"
He chewed on the challenge that Lin was purposing. It was defiantly be one, as one would have to remember the last number that they were on. "The clock would time us, how long should we do the timer? 25 seconds. Shorter, longer?" he gestured towards the clock in question.

"How about half a minute?" Lin suggested, "That sounds about right."

Besides she had no idea how long it would take them to do this, most wouldn't think about doing it under a minute, but if they didn't get it all that was okay, whoever got the most would win then.

Kin nodded, "Yeah, a real challenge," for the first time he really smiled at Lin. His sharp canines reflected the yellow electrical lights softly.

He turned his attention to the stall owner, who had been listening to their conversation while glaring at the pink-deco objects. ". . . want me to start the timer?" the owner's love of watching competition out-weighed the obvious dislike for those objects.

"You ready?"

Lin grinned back at Kin as she picked up one disgustedly pink dart, "Let's get rid of them before the pinkness makes someone sick."

She never thought she would have to say something like that about pink, after all there were people who looked fine pink. Her mother being one of them, but this was like vomit inducing personally speaking.

Kin too plucked a repugnant dart and put himself at that ready. The darts were a little heavier then the cheap festival variety, but they were also lighter then the metal ones that he used at home. Not to mention that the structure was a little different.
"Uggghhhh . . . they smell like too much perfume," the dog-human hybrid moaned as the scent wafted across his nose.

The owner wound up the clock, all the while staring at those floating hearts like they were giant flying killer bugs. Then he sat the clock down . . .

DING. Tick tock tick tock . . .

Lin wrinkled her nose at the dart as she threw it, who scented darts for crying aloud. It was a good thing she wasn't sensitive or anything, otherwise this would be more trouble than what it was worth. The dart flew, barely catching the corner of one of the floating hearts which popped like a bubble.

It was heavier... bugger.

Kin threw one of the heavy darts at a heart marked '1'. Like Lin's, his dart just barely hit the mark, but at the end of the darts little journey, it hit the Heart marked '2'.
He plucked to more darts and plunged them at '3' and '4' that were stuck together like bubbles.

Once she got use to the weight of the darts it went by much smoother, she threw the darts harder than the previous not wanting to risk getting the trajatory wrong. The only real problem came from trying to track down the other numbers, some mingled and mixed and the balloons couldn't even float up right so she had to be extra careful with the six and the nine so she didn't hit the wrong one. Well that and she hated it when the balloon deicded to play peepakboo behind other balloons.

Kin had the same dilemmas as Lin. The hearts like to hide behind one another, as if they were playing a one-sided game of peekaboo. He had hesitated for a moment before finally he finally got the six, so that had cost him some precious seconds. Kin knew that there was no way he could get all 20 in under half-a-minute, but he sure as Hell could get close. Especially now that he was the '11th' heart. The Dog-Human hybrid wasn't even sure how long he had left, but looking at the clock now wouldn't be worth it.

"Ten... eleven... twelve..." Lin counted off her head, she noted how some of the balloons didn't go far so she if found one number she tried to keep it in mind in case she needed it.

It was hard, she also noted that if one of them accidentally hit the wrong balloon which cost a second or two, the balloon didn't pop. What freaky things these things were. She hoped they would go away after wards, she wouldn't want these things on the poor stall owner.

Kin had only just discovered what Lin already knew about the bubble hearts; that if one was hit out-of-order, then it didn't pop. This cost him two seconds, as it took that long for his brain to register what had just happened.

BRIIIIIINNNNNNG. The old-fashioned pink-heart-deco alarm clock bounced around on the stall shelf. The owner jumped, but picked up the boucning clock, trying to figure out how shut the silly thing off.

The dart that would have pricked the fifteenth heart just landed harmlessly in the wood paneling of the dart stall. All of the bubbles that were left popped and glitter rained down onto the stall owner and spouse.
The darts all vanished in a puff of pink smoke that formed into a heart before they slowly dissipated. The clock burst into both a plume of heart-shaped smoke and blew glitter into the owner's face.

Lin stared a bit bewilder at all the pink and glittery sparkles. It was.... disturbing since Lin to a point was girlish (she owned dolls and still did).

"I'm glad I was never a glitter girl," she told Kin deadpanned.

Kin looked down at Lin, he was a little freaked out by all of the glitter. Little pieces of shiny paper hurt when inside one's nostrils. ". . . yeah, I've never really been a Village Boy," he tried to joke, he wasn't really all that good at it. But one had to give the boy credit for trying.

Lin chuckled a bit before looking back at what was left, all glitter, "Let's see... I made up it to 15 before the clock went off," she eyed Kin, "16 was being difficult to find. At least we weren't doing this backwards."

"I wouldn't have gotten past 3 I don't think," he chuckled, before realizing that he had lost this little match. He had only been at fourteen and the heart-bubble had popped before his dart had hit it. "Congratulations," he gave her his best 'Fluffy's toothy grin' impersonation. While Sasanaemaru's 'patented' grin brimmed with confidence and hint of sexuality, Kin's smiles were always filled with teenage awkwardness and soon to be grown out of insecurity problems.
He flashed his ten fingers at her and then four. '14'.

Kin wondered how to ask if she was going to see the fireworks later . . . without it sounding like he was trying to pick her up . . . he hated it that a girl and a guy couldn't be together without people thinking . . .

"Thanks, it was close, I'm glad for the challenge," Lin smiled back.

The summer air brought some late night butterflies, not moths... she learned from observation and the fact she never attracted them, the difference between moths and butterflies. Normally the winged creatures weren't out so late, but with Lin around it was different. One particularly white one brushed against her landing on the side of her head like a hair clip. Someone was commenting on how the fireworks hadn't started yet.

Which she thought was odd because of course they wouldn't have started by now.

She turned to Kin, "Do you know if there had been any changes made to the fireworks this year?"

Kin's jaw dropped slightly at the sight. He had never really seen butterflies in the nighttime before, he realized as the white butterfly pretended to be a clip in her hair. He could just make out the little hairs on the butterflies wings and how the strange tube-like mouth that butterflies had was also fuzzy-looking . . .
"H-huh? No, I didn't,"

Embarrassed, he paused and pulled out his cellphone, "But my class prez is on the fest committee, want me to check?"

"Please," Lin replied looking up at him eagerly.

She wasn't aware at all she was giving him the wide eyed puppy dog look. How could she? She never would do it on purpose, after all she would claim that she never did cute. Though she did it very well.

"I've never seen fireworks before."

Kin was a little taken aback by that, but he pushed the speed dial [he was on Prom committee and the class prez had taken the 'liberty' of confiscating phones and setting the speed dials.] and waited as it rang, once, twice, thrice, he didn't look Lin in the face at all.

"Raven? It's Kin . . . uhhh . . . you uh, wouldn't happen to know . . . about the fireworks?" he asked hopefully, waiting for an answer. "O-okay, thanks, bye. Yeah, Monday," he punched the off button.
"She said that uhhh . . . somebody spread a rumor about the fireworks going off somewhere else . . . they're still in the same place . . ."

Lin looked thoughtful, "Now why would anyone do that? It sounds a bit silly to me... it's not like there's anything to gain from that."

At least to her, unless the person wanted a good seat or something like that.

"Though I guess that's good since it means no fighting for seats at the moment..." she added as an after thought.

Kin wasn't sure what to say too that last statement, so he just nodded dumbly.

"Were you gonna watch the fireworks-with-anybody?" if she wasn't, he would invite his [or at least he hoped was,] his new friend to sit with him and his parents. Kin knew that his father would be extremely towards her, as he was with almost everyone, like a dog. His mother was a different story, as she was unpredictable, but he was often 'playing the gentlemen' and bringing girls around. So maybe she would behave.

. . . several paces away a small group of girls stood hiding behind a stall. The owner of that stall was not really happy with those girls, as their stalker-aura was driving away customers.

Several of the girls had cameras and all were watching Kin like he was wet, sweaty, and naked.

Lin thought about it, should could say she was going to watch with her parents, but she was sure her parents would want to watch the fireworks alone. She had heard that Triton was around, but she had no clue where he was. So, the answer was probably a no.

"No, I really didn't plan to watch with anyone, I mean... I have family here, but they're all doing their own thing," Lin explained to Kin.

She somehow got the funny feeling she was being watched, but she couldn't quite understand why. Lin looked over her shoulder thinking it was Vincent (after all the guy was enough to make most people paranoid after a while). She looked back at Kin.

If Lin had been looking hard she would have noticed there were daggers being glared at her back. She had no idea what she had stumbled upon being home schooled and all.

Kin tried to see whatever it was that Lin had looked at, but he didn't see anything except a few girls in his class. They were all too far away for him to be polite, besides, some of those girls were strange.

The dog-human hybrid wet his lips absently, "Then you wanna sit with me and my folks? You don't . . . you don't have too, but . . . better than being alone though right?" Kin smiled, "I think my mom will behave, hopefully,"

He wanted to ask who all her family was, but he couldn't help but feel that was too intrusive. Kin knew that he didn't have his father's grace when it came to social situations.

At the momentary sight of his pink tongue, the girls who were hiding in plain sight all began to squeal quietly. Two girls had to be given a tissue from a large stash that was in another's backpack. Another had to take quick and desperate breaths from her inhaler.

The self-proclaimed leader of the group announced that she had caught the action on tape. But the 'b***h' was in the way. And had everyone seen that uncomfortable smile? That 'b***h' was obviously stuck onto him like a ice to skin!

The group now began their sport of synchronized-glaring.

Lin couldn't help but giggle at Kin's comment, to normal might it might have been considered a flirting gesture, but she couldn't help it. It sounded like something she would say about her father behaving. She looked up at him with smiling eyes.

"I'd like that," she told him, "And I'm sure your mother will be fine."

His mother can't be any stranger than her family at best she could be like her mother... at worse she could be like Grandma Mi.

Kin's ears flattened slightly at her giggle, afraid that she might be making fun of him. He hated it when girls did that. Especially the girls at school who did that. They would just laugh at him . . . probably for how pathetic his social skills were.
"Uhhh . . ." his left ear cocked to right, "Yeah okay--!" he paused as his brain tried to understand what his ears had heard. "They're starting! C'mon!" he paused before grabbing her wrist, a bit rougher then he should have, "Sorry!"
It was an apology for both the rough handling and for touching her without permission. . . . where did trait get that from?

Several fangirls considered Lin's giggle as an attempt to flirt with their precious Lord Kin grounds for a fight. Fortunately, for who was relevant, several of the older girls were able to calm those brash underlings down.
This would call for a plan of action.

. . .

And then Lord Kin grabbed the 'b***h's hand and ran off.

"That's okay," Lin replied hurrying so she would be dragged along, it was a good thing she was use to walking along side elves otherwise she might have had a bit of trouble, "They're starting after all, so we better hurry before all the seats are taken up."

The dog-hybrid didn't respond, but only kept a firm grip on her wrist as too not lose her as he lead them towards a massive road block of bodies that were trying to get to a good spot themselves.
Kin was somehow able to maneuver them threw the quickly thickening crowd. He made it too a small valley between to hills and stopped, "Here?" he yelled across the boom of fireworks that seemed so much louder to him. The little valley they stood in was obviously an old creek bed, the smooth stones and the springlings of grass.

. . . and left behind were only frozen husks . . . "Lord . . . Kin . . ."

Lin looked around and smiled, this place was certainly nice, "Perfect," she replied.

She chose a spot of springy grass to sit down on, the nice thing about black pants was that she didn't have to worry about grass stains. She patted a spot beside her, she could almost feel the light of the fireworks against her skin.

Her smiled was wide, probably because she didn't have that strange feeling of being watched anymore.

Kin sat down Indian-style on the ground next to Lin and leaned back. His ears were back to save them from the crackling boom and shrill whistles of the beautiful display. Firecrackers were a treat for the sense of sight, not sound.

Lin blinked a few times, adjusting her eyes to the absent of light as the ghost of the fireworks danced behind her eye lids. She took a deep breath, not realizing how much she had been mesmerized by it all.

"That was amazing," she murmured, "I wonder how that's done."

In true Lin fashion she couldn't help but think of the question that came to her mind.

"Hey," she looked up at Kin, not wanting to have the fun of the festival over quite yet, "Want to go get sparklers to make a wish?"

Kin blinked back the black spots that were dancing around the corners of his eyes. The finale's lights had been a little brighter then what he was prepared for.

Kin's eyebrows knotted together, "Wishes on sparklers?" He had never heard of such a thing before. Sure he had played with sparklers every year of from the time he could hold one to probably two years ago but . . . "Okay,"

Lin grinned as she got to her feet, brushing whatever dirt there was off the back of her pants. After all she didn't want grass to be stuck there, that would be a bit embarrassing. Then she held out a hand to help Kin up, even though really he was taller than her (way taller).

"Yea, it's a game my brother told me about. The idea is that you hold sparklers with a group of people and whoever's goes out the last will have their wish come true!"

As she was telling him this... she could kind of feel that funny tingling along her spine, the one that told her she was being spied on.

Kin took her hand lightly, but pushed himself off of the ground, careful not to pull or tug on Lin in anyway. He released her

Lin had a reason to feel that way, the Lord Kin Fanclub had recovered and had been watching the fireworks as well. Though from atop the left hill of the little valley. Only the Fanclub had been waxing poetic about how Kin was more beautiful then fireworks, as he wasn't fleeting.

"It's not fair . . ." sobbed a junior member, "I would have wanted to watch the fireworks with Lord Kin!"

A large portion of the group were using all of their synchronized glaring practice on Lin. There was a chance that Lin might spontaneously cumb

"It's alright! Lord Kin is a wonderful, spectacularly gentle person, he must only be humoring that b***h!" an older member pronounced as she tuned a rather complex listening device. The device must have done what the older member wanted it too, because she let out a quiet 'aha!'.
The other members all gathered round the device, hoping to hear the conversation.

"That's cool," Kin said as he brushed all of the dirt and whatever else off his backside. "Does it uhhh . . . work with just a--few people?" he inquired out of the side of his mouth. His ears lay flat on his head, he had caught the scent of a large number of girls that he knew. If he was remembering right, then those were some of the girls that would look at him and giggle when he passed . . .
"Wonder where you buy them around here?"

Some of the older members all turned back into husks but the younger members were confused . ..

"As long as there is just one other person, it'll work fine. So with just the two of us it'll be okay," Lin assured him.

She looked thoughtful for a moment, where would they sell that sort of thing? Probably at some knickknack stall where they sell things for kids or couples to keep as memories or something like that.

"There's a stall I believe close to the game stalls that sells them. I noticed a lot of couples going to get them before the fireworks, along with whatever knickknack the seller could convince the girl she would want," Lin rolled her eyes, "Honestly, I don't understand why any girl would go for some cheap imititation that looks tacky when there were some geniune items that would no doubt last longer and looks nicer right selling in the stall next to them."

Kin smiled at that, "I think . . . I think my dad would say that stall owner . . . was a good businessmen. 'Cause, um, good business is selling people stuff they wouldn't normally buy," Sasanaemaru could have explained it much better then that, but his dad wasn't around at the moment, was he?
"Well, uhh . . . let's go," he pointed back at the festival grounds. "I'll bet that people will have already some . . . and I'll sniff them out," he poked his nose.
He turned on his heel and began walking backwards, to make sure that Lin would follow.

The older members were all now officially freaking out. So much in fact that the junior members had no idea what to do, so they just sat back and watch their Lord walk away with the b***h.
"Should we follow them?" asked a junior member as she pointed towards Lin and Kin.
"Yeah, I mean, that's what the Fan Club does right? Follow and protect," answered another. The Juniors left the Seniors to recover their wits. Hopefully they would catch up soon.

Strangely, it seemed that the junior members were a little less obsessive and insane then the older members.

Lin nodded at this as she followed Kin towards the stalls that would probably still be selling the sparklers. She had to admit, Kin was probably right about that, but she thought it was silly.

"Probably appealing to a girl's sense of romance," she told Kin, "For no other reason can I think why a guy would get it for her. At least that's what I'm told about couples, I think it's quite odd. My Dad gets Mom simple things and she always says he's very thoughtful."

She wondered how he managed to do with that without ramming into anyone. Probably skill of some sort, she also had to wonder if maybe Kin knew anything about fighting or weapons.

Kin's talent of walking backwards was as much luck as it was skill. "My dad does that too!" he paused to spin on his heel and walk correctly next to Lin. "I mean he uhh, he might go out and get her candy or something," he paused to think about it. Kin couldn't really remember anything that his father had gotten his mother, only the fact that he did on a regular basis. "My mom never says he's thoughtful though, but well . . . I can always tell," he sniffed at the air absently. "Uh, kind'a," On the side of the makeshift road was a dealer selling things such as antique swords and Kin's walk slowed, but he forced himself to keep on.

The Junior members weren't far behind. Though what they were planning was hard to tell, they were no weapons in plain sight. Only cameras, both still and moving.

Kara Winters

If Lin was like Feng she might have gone shiny on Kin, but she was not, but it did not stop her from slowing down until she found herself eyeing the swords. Were they really antique? What really caught her eye though was something that looked like a hair stick, she picked it up.

It was pretty, looked to be made of silver and looked to be two star like flowers surrounded by leaves and even had that dangling pearl like droplets to accent the hair.

"This... isn't a weapon," Lin looked up at the seller.

"Look again," the seller took it from Lin's hands and took the pinprick middles of the flowers out to reveal the two needle like sebons hidden within, "Even hair as short as yours could keep it in with a pretty ribbon."

The reasonable side of her said she would never be in a situtation where she would need something dangerous like that.

"They're stopping... or she's stopping," the lead juriorman stopped having all the others ram into her as a result.

She motioned for one of her fellow stal-protectors, one with a video camera, "Zoom in and see what they're doing."

"Ouch!" cried one of the girls who had fallen when the other's had all bumped into one another.

"Shhhh!" someone shushed her and helped her up.

"Okay!" said the girl with the camera, happy that she was one the asked and not someone else. With a click she pressed the button and zoomed in on Kin and Lin.

Kin quickly backtracked the three or four steps that was needed. He was instantly enthralled with what he saw. Weapons of every kind met his eyes, swords, sabers, whips, lances, mostly the ones that he was interested in were decorative. Though the hairsticks with the hidden senbons caught his interest.

He ran his fingers along the hilt of a majestically carved fencing sword. The hilt-guard was lined with what appeared to long-dead magic marks, something that was quite popular during the sword's era. This would look beautiful with the rest of his display weapons. But this sword was made for combat, dry or with bloodshed. It wouldn't due the blade justice to just seat and be admired.

Kin did his best to avert his eyes from the blade and moved onto the next point of interest along the stall.

The junior with the camera reported every detail, down to the movement of Kin's hair and the details of the objects that he seemed to be interested in.

Kara Winters

"Looks like I'm not the only one who's interested in weapons," Lin commented wryly noting how Kin seemed to be studying in detail the sword.

She could see why, it was a really good sword, but she wasn't allowed blades like that, and allowances had already been made to let her use fighting knives as it were.

"I've been meaning to ask since the dart contest, but..." Lin had to admit this was the strangest question to come out of her mouth yet, "Do you fight?"

Once the question had left her mouth she wondered if maybe she was spending a bit too much time with Vincent.

Meanwhile one of the girls wondered if perhaps they had enough to get Kin that sword. After all what would endear them better than getting their beloved his most desired wish?

The inside of Kin's ears and face turned a right shade of red, "Y-yeah, I collect decorative swords," in his perpherial vison he caught the dealer rolling his eyes. His pride flared for a moment, "This is of the Promanade era, from what I know of that era you can tell by the way that the hilt-guard is blunted at the very end. To prevent injury. And these markings, I'm not sure what they mean, but the magic is obviously long dead. Or the Festival Commitee wouldn't have given you the license to sell here," his eyes had been Lin for most of his little statement. But for the last part, he stared at the dealer.

The dealer just smirked at him, though he was obviously a little surprised.

Kin was a little taken back by Lin's question, he was also very very embarrassed by his little outburst at the dealer . . . "Uhh . . . I don't fight . . . I practice though, like with--with swords," he paused for a moment while he scratched the back of his ear nervously. He almost looked like a dog, only dogs scratched with their back legs . . . "I don't really gotta fight . . . I'm a hybrid so I don't have the BloodLust like my dad . . ."

One of the group, a senior member who had recovered sooner then the others, was in the Antiques Guild Club [they had to have club at the end of all of the official documents . . .] and told the rest that anything that caught Kin's true attention . . . none of them could afford.

But her opinion was outvoted and two of the youngest girls were sent to go and investigate the price on the sword.

Lin had a feeling she should have been clearer on that question, after all there was a different between fighting and sparring. She looked back at the sword with interest, maybe her mother could tell her what those markings were, then again maybe not.

"So do you spar? Or are you a swordsdancer?" in reference in otherwords he did katas which was for show but not for actual practice with the blade.

She coughed a bit, realizing she was probably too forward and had the good grace to blush.

"Sorry if I'm forward, I don't get to meet a lot of people my age, and often I don't have very much in common, I have a feeling I'm a bit of an oddity compared to other girls."

She looked back at the hairstick, she should buy it she thought. Sadist b*****d will probably put her into a situtation where she would need to use a hidden weapon like this.

"I don't suppose," she added to the seller, "You have any of those hair sticks that are not antiques?"

"I spar,"

His ears cockeyed as he spoke. "You're . . . it's okay. I don't mind," his mind's eye conjured up a picture of Were-Ah giggling at him where Lin stood. He smiled sweetly, "Don't take it wrong! But you're easier to talk to then most girls . . . kind of like my friend Were. I forget . .. about genders?" Kin flinched at his own words. He hoped that she wouldn't be like Mackie or Niena and start to cry after he said something like that . ..

The dealer was quiet for a moment as he fixed a display near the back of the stall. "No, but the stall of there has one I'm sure," he pointed across the path. "My son is working it,"

The two girls were only a few paces away from Kin and Lin when they noticed that they had both blushed. It hadn't mattered they had been at different times . . . the pair stumbled back to the rest of the group to examine this.

Lin didn't mind, though it was obvious he did. In fact she was multi tasking (thinking about getting hair sticks and talking to Kin) she missed the fact that he had said Were. Granted her mind had probably thought it was just a name... not linking it to Were-ah.

"Excellent," Lin told the stall keeper over her shoulder, "Thank you."

Without thinking she took Kin's hand to lead him over to the other stall while they talked.

"That's not a bad thing," Lin replied, "Forgetting about genders I mean, at least then I know you won't try to talk to me like I'm a little girl. Some of the guys at the school do that, makes me want to kick them," she admitted.

Granted part of the reason probably was because she was the headmistress' daughter and she had been a child only a year ago, but still it irked her, because she had a feeling it had partly to do with her sex. She had noticed the fighter males out numbered females, and there were a few times she wanted to... err... slug a male.

Well the group was... to lack of a better term. Scadalized by this development, after all if they both blushed it meant.. well something! Of course the b***h's blush couldn't have been for real, it must have been faked, but Kin's... Kin's blush had to be real, which could only mean horrible things for him. Many were sure that this girl was going to lead Kin to doom and heartbreak.

Where the latter came from sane people could only guess.

The girls quickly recovered by the senior member taking command. "Alright fellow Protectors! As you all know this b***h will lead our beautiful and benevolent Lord Kin down the path of destruction and heartache!" their was a mighty roar of estrogen threw the small gathering. "Now then, we must plan this carefully. Lord Kin is honourable, so he would not allow us to avenge him

Kin frowned at that, "They talk to you like you're a little girl?" he tried to see it, why other's talked to her that way. The only reason he could tell was by either her height or that light coating of innocence. But he wasn't about too say something so . . . Wolf-ish.
"The girls at school just laugh at me when I try to talk to them. Even when I'm not trying to be funny," he muttered out of the side of his mouth. "You . . . you should kick them," the first part of his words were loud enough to be conversational, but at the end they were just a mumbled mess.

Yup, this reminded him of Were-Ah.

Lord Kin is honorable,
so we must down the b***h before she infects his heart further,"

Another roar of estrogen.

"But what can we do?" asked one of the youngest members.

"Let's beat the s**t out of her behind the machina display!"

"Maybe we should just talk to her first?" inquired the youngest member of the Club. "I mean . . . maybe she can be one of us, if she likes Lord Kin too," she blushed cutely.

"It's a start," sighed the new Leader. "Let's avoid physical confrontation as much as possible. Besides, that b***h isn't worth the police and such being called, if I get another rap, I'm headed to juevy,"

It looked like she wasn't the only one with social problems, it sounded like Kin did too. She couldn't understand why anyone would laugh at him, he was being perfectly fine and nice. Hearing his comment about kicking them, she giggled a bit and nodded.

"I would," she told him, "But I promised my mentor I would not start a fight unless I had to. I don't like disappointing him, he can give you this look that makes it seem like he's looking through you."

And Lin was one of those people who kept her promises, it was up there along with the... no swearing (though that was hard), no lying (was not hard at all), and trying to be understanding (though personally she thought some people were idiots).

"Though the idea makes me smile," she admitted stopping in front of the stall that she had been directed to, she let go of Kin's hand so she could look at the hair sticks, "Though no one says I can't kick them during sparing," she told Kin lightly.

Not that she had sparred with any of the fighter students, she was still trying to get permission to do that one.

"And you should tell the girls they're being rude," she told him.

"It's harder for guys to tell girl's stuff, I think," he glanced around at the new stall. This kind of stuff really wasn't his forte. Most of it was jewelry, a few were women's decorative defense items. Being in places like this made him feel like a pervert, like when his mother dragged him into a Victoria's Secret. [Though seriously, did Victoria have anymore secrets to tell?]
He smiled at Lin's words. At least he knew that she was being brought up to be honorable. It seemed like a lot of practicing students didn't listen to things like honor and discipline. Or they couldn't tell when to use them in degrees. "Kick'em where it hurts,"

Alright, the group now had a plan of action. Luckily, one of the girls was the team manager for the basketball team. She would tell Kin a lie [the few recovered seniors told her that her suffering wouldn't be in vain.] about how two of the notoriously fight-happy players for the team were starting a fight on the other side of the festival. Once there she would use some of the eyedrops given to her and start to cry.

That would give the rest of the group enough time to grab the little b***h and tell her 'how it is'.

"Lo--- . . . KIN! Kin! " the girl cried as she ran out from behind the stalls. Her cheeks were flushed from the excitement of being with him alone, so it looked like she had been running for a long while. "Kin! Oh God, Kin, I'm so glad I found you!" she said in a rush, before grabbing his sleeve in earnest. "Ranma and Akane are going at it bad over on the side of the grounds! You're the team captain, you gotta stop'em!"

Kin's eyes widened and his lips curled back. Ranma and Akane were notorious in the community for destroying everything around them when they fought. "S-sorry, Lin," he breathed out, he looked more like a dog with his teeth bared and his ears back, before turning on his heel and ran off.

The girl gave Lin a smug look and stuck out her tongue before running after her Lord.

As if that rude gesture were a cue, several of the seniors stepped out of the shadows and towards Lin. The juniors with their arms on their hips, using psychological tactics to make the group seem larger.

Lin had raised her brow after the girl, not understanding the rude gesture, though it became very clear once she found herself confronted with an unusually large number of girls. Though judging by the glare she was getting from some of them, suddenly the shiver down the spine feeling she had been getting was all too clear.

Her sleeved wrist twitched, in a repressed movement to keep her from getting out her knife. After all, she logically tried to reason to herself they had not done anything to her. Yet, her mind whispered, she went back to studying the hair sticks. Resisting the urge to look back at her potential ambushers.

Keep your face straight and don't act like it bothers you.

Vincent's voice echoed in Lin's mind, schooling her facial emotions was always the hardest, and she was looking too long at the hair stick in her hand, it wasn't even one she liked.... it was too shiny. She looked up, setting the hair stick down.

"Can I help you?" she hoped her voice wasn't cracking.

The senior who was in the Antiques Guild was also a part of a local training dojo and she realized right off of the bat that Lin knew what to do with that hairstick if she needed too . . . the senior girl gulped.

"Yes, you can help us," the Leader said as she pushed threw the crowd of girls, they were supposed to have done that after she had gone through . . . "You can start by telling me what you're intentions are for our," the Leader gestured towards the group of girls gathered around," Beloved Lord Kin,"

Several of the younger girls and even a senior member didn't look quite comfortable with what they're leader was saying. But none of them moved to argue or interrupt her. Whether from fear of her or from social rejection wasn't clear.

The look like Lin's face was one of utter confusion, after all she had spent a small amount of time around royalty (granted it was in another world and she tended to forget that they were royalty often enough) but she knew enough to take the girl seriously. In otherwords, she had no idea that Kin was someone important.

Though confusion came from the fact that she was sure they were not his guards (all female guards was unusual and besides most of them didn't even look capable of protecting him). Now that she thought about it, what intentions?

"Pardon?" Lin asked, "I don't have any intentions towards your lord. He's just fun to be around."

Several of the younger and more 'naive' girl's faces softened at that. They hoped that this would be end of this. This girl wasn't a threat, yet, at least.
The senior members all wore angry expressions at Lin's words and her facial features. One whispered to another about how her innocent act was 'soooo~ obvious'.

"I see," the Leader pursed her lips together tightly. "So then, of course you wouldn't be wanting to take the Lord away from m-- my fellows and I would, you?" the girl advanced on Lin slowly. "You wouldn't want to take Lord Kin's heart into your hands and then break into tiny pieces would you? Or too keep you with him in an honorable bond to have him suffer for all eternity would you?" she paused to compose herself, "That would be like ripping the wings off an Angel fiber by fiber,"

Two of the younger girls now looked really really freaked out. One of them crossing herself.

Lin tried to muddle through that speech, it was worse than Sir Leith! At least he made sense, even if his manner of speech did not. This girl was not making any sense at all... take his heart why would she want to do that.

Not to mention the whole ripping wings of an angel thing kind of creeped her out. That was way to vivid of an image.

"I would like it if you refrain from any angel anology... that's kind of an insult to my mom," Lin replied trying not to look as if the older girl had just sprouted two heads.

Lin shook her head, what was this about? Something about honourable bonds... she didn't know what that was, was the girl talking about taking a mate? Why would she want a mate now?

"I don't know what gives you any of those... very odd ideas," Lin finally told the girl, "I just met Kin, and I like being with him. He's very nice, I wouldn't want to hurt him."

The Leader off a little bit from Lin, "I see, I . . . apologize," The girl once again composed herself, as though she were playing the adult and it should have been Lin to apologize. "Consider what I have said a warning," she glanced back at the group. It's size had lessened she had last looked.

This was a good way to weed out the weak among their group, she reasoned, watching as three girls walked away from the group. Sometimes one had to get their hands dirty to get what they wanted. "But at least you do realize that he is a good, an--, wonderful man,"

"Hey . . . Mackie . . .?" said a little voice from the back of the group. Most of the Club turned to look at the youngest member, "Ummm . . . I'm . . . I'm gonna leave now okay?"

"Fine. But if you do, don't come back,"

The young girl's eyes filled with tears and stood where she was.

Even a select few of the psycho seniors started to look uncomfortable.

Lin bristled at that, if there was anything she hated more was people treating others like dirt. She had known something was off about this girl, but now it was clear. This girl was a tyrant.

"What's your problem?" Lin bluntly asked.

She had never felt so irratated before, not since she was no more than a little Surprise. Against her better judgement Lin brushed the leader off and head into the crowd of girls, straight towards the youngest member.

"Hey... don't let her get you down," Lin reached out for the schoolgirl.

The schoolgirl sniffled and wiped her nose. "O-okay," The girl couldn't have been more than a seventh grader, hardly even past the threshold of puberty. She was trying very hard to cry in front of everyone. "I . . . I like President R-Ra-Raven b-better," she snobbed.

The Leader clenched her fists as Lin just walked right by her and through the crowd of girls.

"Mackie!" cried one of the senior girls, the one that had been all for beating Lin up. "You don't have the power to do that! Holly has the 7th graders!!"

Mackie looked at the other girl coolly, "If she can't take the heat, get her out of the kitchen,"

The other girl growled low in her chest. "She's just a kid Mackie,"

"Precisley why she should leave, she doesn't understand love quite yet," Mackie said, her face still cool. But the traces of anger were lurching under her skin. Making her flesh twitch in certain places. "So she should leave until she is fit to return,"

The rest of the group just kind of stood and stared at the display. Mackie wasn't actually the leader of the Fan Club. She was the Secretary and normally only handled records. Some of them started to whisper that they knew it was a bad idea to vote Mackie in as the standing-president until Raven was free from the Festival Committee.

"Love?"

Lin voice echoed in disbelief, she turned to face 'Mackie", "Is this what it is all about love?"

The girl who had tried not to be annoyed, tried to think this calmly felt... well angry. Her face twisted in disgust, even though Lin never wanted a mate yet, if she would get one, she wanted what her parents had. She had begun seeing it the day she could understand that her father's smiles were more than just sugar and sweetness.

"You call cornering people, threatening them and butting your nose into business that isn't your own acts of love? You call this," she motioned to the crowd of girls, "Love?"

One of the older girls lead the little seventh grader away and many more of the girls followed in suit. This had gone way too far for their liking, someone muttered something about going and finding Raven. There were was a murmur of agreement. There were also mumbles of apologies directed at Lin as they passed.

"We're protecting Lord Kin," Mackie said, "We-- I truly adore Lord Kin. I've already told you of love. Do you understand that your actions have hurt us. With you making a face like you are the one that he treasures the most? Pulling him along in your conceited ways!"

This speech was obviously practiced, as she kept switching between the tenses.

"I didn't believe it when Rave said it . . . but you're bat s**t crazy Mackie," the tough senior girl exclaimed before she turned on her hill, "I'd stay," she said to Lin, "But I'll ********' beat the s**t out of her if she keeps talking," then she ran off after the others.

Being alone on the battlefield did not deter Mackie. In fact, it seemed to make her feel stronger. As if she had just proved a point, "No, I do not call what you were talking about 'love', but I feel is love,"

Lin couldn't blame the girl for wanting to beat up Mackie but for completely different reasons. Seriously Mackie needed therapy, maybe she should suggest Yukito. Actually no.. she wouldn't wish Mackie on Yukito... ever...

"If you were married to the guy, the courts would have given you a restraining order a long time ago and named it spousal abuse," Lin replied back.

Speaking of Kin, where was he? Did he even know? She thought about it, he probably didn't and it would horrified if he knew he was being stalked. Though at least she could honestly now tell him they weren't laughing at him, at least she didn't think so now. She looked around, there wasn't anyone else, well at least she wouldn't have to defend herself against many people if it came down to that.

"And you disgust me by insisting you call it love, you don't know what love is don't pretend that you feel it."

Kin was not happy. At all. First off, the basketball team manager had lied to him. That was all he had gotten out of her before she escaped. He would see her Monday and he would get answers. His father had called him just a few minutes ago and he was know slowly making his way back to the truck.
He felt like an idiot.

Mackie shook her head, "You don't understand! Nobody understands it! That's what true love is!" she fired back, her cool composure lost. In her eyes was psychotic mixture of hate and obsession. "I would do anything to protect him!" her eyes were wide now, pupils dilated, nostrils flaring like a wild animal, "Those silly girls! They just wanted an excuse to hang out! "Our base to bring us together is Lord Kin'! Bah! Those fools!"

Several people had stopped in the street to watch the display.

"Yes I do," Lin replied softly, "I've seen true love. Tell me Mackie, would you stand by Kin if he outlived you? Knowing that he could still be walking this world decades after you've left? Would you stand by him knowing he could possibly stay young even when you and others become wither and old? Would your heartache knowing that if he loved you, you could be leaving him alone for a long time? I know hybrids, they can live far longer than any normal human being, it is in their blood to do so, even if they are not immortal or will live anywhere near as long as their parent who gave them those years."

She didn't think Mackie could understand, she didn't think this... this girl could see exactly what it meant to love.

"I've seen immortals risk heartache to marry a mortal," Lin told Mackie angrily, "I've seen a woman who waited decades and would wait centuries until her love was reborn. I've seen heartache and love, the good and the bad, what have you seen Mackie? Some story book romance?"

It was almost like something cracked in the girl.

"You've seen it? A feeble childish thing like you?"
Mackie laughed, it was far to loud to be that of amusment, "If he truly loved me, then he would die with me! As I would die if it were the other way around!" the mouth opened wide as she laughed again, the saliva columns stuck disgustingly to her top and bottom teeth. Probably only the grace of the writer of Fate was the girl not frothing at the mouth.
"Story book romance? Those are so cold and ridiculous! This is fiery, burning! I've watched him for so long . . . " her eyes faded, a private movie playing behind her eyes. "I've always tried to make him smile . . . I always was nice to that Scott girl even though . . . even though she hurt him, when she said they were siblings, oh Ra . . ."

How the girl had fallen through the cracks was anyone's guess.

Lin shook her head going back to the stall, she wasn't going to wait around for Kin. She was going to buy the hair stick she wanted and get out of here before something stupid happened.

"If you wish that for someone you love, death for when you die, you don't really love them at all," Lin replied softly.

She picked up what looked to be a black laquer hair stick, the flowers were emabled white, gold coloured senbons hidden in the middle. She loked this the best because the drops looked like dew and there was a small butterfly sitting on one of the flowers.

"I'll take this one," she told the stall owner before asking Mackie, "Are we done, or do I have to hear more of your delusions?"

Mackie's face twisted into shock but then turned into a angry scowl. She advanced upon Lin, her steps slow and labored, but someone grabbed her arm. The girl stared up at the person holding her and gulped.
"I-I-I-I--" she croaked out and tears fell out of her eyes.

Apparently, someone had called the police.

The dealer's son nodded, he had been afraid the whole time. Everyone in the school, well almost everyone, knew that Mackie was really crazy. Kin was just her long-time obsession. Everyone knew that. Except Kin.
He handed Lin her purchase and apologized, he had been taught that a man should never get into a woman's argument unless they were hurting one another.

"It's okay," Lin murmured.

She put the hairstick away, the last thing she wanted was for someone to think she was going to use it. Though Lin had to admit, at least no punches were thrown, she didn't want to explain that to her father at all. Eying Mackie one last time, Lin slipped off into the crowd, she didn't want to be around for the questions. Not when she was one of the citizens who carried around weapons normally.

She hoped to find someone from home, her parents or maybe Triton. After all that was way too close for comfort.
