"Ahh, be quiet, you," the fairly small built male grumped at the coyote as it had to run just to keep up with the dragon, whimpering as it went. Apparently the poor furry animal had something against getting wet, as the water that fell from the Crater Lake sprawled all over the dense bush below as cold misty rain. To Echo, this was a heavenly feeling, as he'd been exploring the terrain for a possible new den and was exhausted and hot.

The sun was beaming down with late summer ferocity from a clear blue sky, and whenever the dragon had exited the shade of the trees and bushes, it became excruciatingly hot. Now there was a cool breeze in the air, light rain wafting down to him. It was so, so tranquil here. Save for the coyote whimpering. And was there another noise over the roar of the waterfall?

From the top of the large waterfall came a laugh. Delylia flew over the edge of the waterfall, free-falling along the rushing water towards the lake below. Just as she was about to hit the water, she pulled up sharply, merely skimming the water. The dragon had been exploring for what felt like an eternity. With wings outstretched, Delylia had flown across the vast canyon and made it to this point. The waterfall proved to hold great fun for her as she now sat down along the banks, smiling with joy. There was so much to see and do around here!

Delylia's red eyes scanned the area to spot another dragon. She stood up and offered a small smile, and a bow of her head. She had no idea if this dragon was friendly or not, so she did not approach. The female did not take on an offensive or defensive stance but merely a friendly appearance. "Hello." She greeted. With her wings aching a little from such a long journey, she folded them up against her back. This also seemed to make her less threatening in appearance. She did not want to scare off or threaten the first dragon she would meet.

Echo stopped at the sound of a laugh trickling in the air like the water that fell from the lake. He looked up through the foliage, coming to a clearing as the trees started to be sparse towards the banks of the lake-ish river below the waterfall. He spotted something-- someone rushing down along the waterfall and as they got closer, he could tell she was another of his kin. Perplexed, he watched her freefall all the way down and then sat back on his haunches as she sped right past him at first, skimming the water and leaving trails behind her.

As she landed, Echo quickly shot back up on his feet. Surely someone with such a playful nature would be of no threat to him, but he'd rather be safe than sorry.
"Well met," he replied a bit gruffly, receiving a bad look from his coyote companion. Apparently the canine would've rather have him be a little more polite to the fairer gender.
"Saw you take a plunge there. Impressive, the way you corrected yourself before hitting the water."
Well, suppose it was a compliment, if a little awkward at that. Echo hadn't met many of his kind, and the ones he'd met had blatantly ignored him.

It could be questioned whether or not she even understood he was speaking harshly to her. Even at his gruff tone of voice, Delylia seemed very kind as if she was spoken to as sweetly as could be. "Thank you." Seeing how he was concerned of her, Delylia sat down on her haunches, sitting in a very elegant manner. In her mind, if she sat down, maybe he would not think so badly of her? "I love to fly. Do you?" Her voice held her curiosity. She then shook her head for a moment. "Oh, sorry. I almost forgot. My name is Delylia. May I ask yours?" Red eyes shifted down to the coyote. "And who is this creature here?" She tried to throw a small, gentle smile over at the canine. She wanted only to make a good impression. After all, she was still trying to meet others of her kind. However, Delylia was a friendly dragon, and did not wish to leave out the companion of her newly met acquaintance.

Echo's wings twitched slightly as the female sat down and he soon settled a little as well, his head lowering and his wings settling back to his sides languidly. This female was very unlikely to charge at him he might just as well act casual.
"Of course," he replied curtly. "Who doesn't." His casual-demeanor probably needed a little work.
Again, the canine seemed displeased at its companion's way to respond to the fair lady and it looked up to the dragon accusingly. Echo glanced back at it, the looking up to the female dragon who dubbed herself Delylia.
"Echo--" he paused, his teal eyes veering to the coyote who was staring at him intently. "Charmed to meet you, Delylia, it has been a while since I met anyone of our kin" the male added. The coyote seemed appeased. About time, stupid fleabag of righteousness and good manners..
"Ah," he looked down as Delylia asked about his coyote. Come to think of it, he hadn't named it. He just referred to it as you, fleabag, nuisance and pest. "He's just my coyote companion, no more no less," and with that, Echo flicked the canine over the head just enough to have it bow its head, regardless that it would've done so even without his help. "Say hello to the lady, don't be rude."

Delylia watched the male dragon, red eyes studying his movements carefully. At least he was settling down. She pursed her lips together, holding back her amusement at the unique relationship that the dragon and canine shared. Her tail moved in a serpentine manner; a symbol of how pleased she was that Echo had given his name. "Nice to meet you Echo. I must admit, I can't even recall the last time I saw another of our kind before now. Are you familiar with this area?" She was curious to know if painters would live around here. That crimson stare shifted over to the canine and she offered it a gentle smile as Echo spoke about it. "A companion. That must be a nice way to keep from being lonely. Is he useful to you?" Her head slightly tilted, as she glanced over at Echo once more.

"Useful?" Echo repeated, skipping the first question at such an obnoxious thought. "Useful, ha! I wish. He's just a hindrance most of the time, what with being unable to fly and much too heavy to be carried around for long distances--" now he paused, realizing how he should present himself as if he was strong. "Not that I couldn't I just.. uhh.. don't want to."
He coughed under his breath, ignoring the bark at his feet as the coyote strongly protested against such a depiction.
Echo shook his head a little then, returning to the previous question. "Oh, no. I wander around, I was kinda looking for a place to stay awhile. Traveling in this ever lasting heat gets very tedious after a while." He glanced around, trying to seem uncaring-- cool. "This looks like a nice environment for a temporary accommodation, though. A burrow or a cave would be nice. Need to explore more."
His teal eyes carefully scanned Delylia over. She was barely any smaller than he was despite her gender. What a bummer, he'd like to look big and strong and menacing-- or cool, if you will, at least once.
"I take it you're new around the corners too, yes?"
