In a random foresty area, somewhat alongside a river, was a little pup romping through the bushes. Resana lowered to the ground, her tail high and wagging, and her teal eyes stilled on the bird abover her. The small bird had landed on a low branch, not too far from where the pup had been incorrectly licking her stomach clean just a moment ago. The pup bark at the bird and scrambled at the trunk of the tree, reaching for the bird.

Silly thing, c'mere! She thought. After the bird flew away, Resana sighed and turned back towards the river, her ears perking up as a breeze passed through the leaves of the trees. She could always stop to listen to the wind.

When sound of flapping wings had faded, another sound replaced it. A giggle. One from a wolf, no older than her. Though her words could've been taken as an insult, the fact her tail wagged back and forth so quickly seemed to support that she was merely being playful. "Ran thinks you should work on your bird hunting!"

In mid-sentence another wolf arrived. This one much older, darker in color, and stood in the proud sort of way all alpha did (or should). It wasn't that all surprising to find pups alone around here, but she could never help feeling a bit sympathetic for them. "Don't mind her, little one. Her words aren't intended to taunt."

Resana yipped in surprise and whirled around to face the pup and adult wolf. "Oh!" she giggled out of nervousness and shock. How had she not heard them approaching? Glancing at each as they spoke in turn, she looked to Ran "I don't think it's an insult" her eyes shifted to the older wolf and she grinned a toothy smile "I do gotta work on it.. I'm better at catching frogs!" she looked around and sniffed at the air. "It's weird though, that I didn't notice you before.. I guess I was listening too hard for wind. She tilted her head, watching them "Are you two related?" Looking over the alpha, then at the pup, she tried out a possibility "Are you teaching her to hunt?" she inquired excitedly.

"Momma is Ran's Momma!" The pup piped up with an excited wag over her tail. Sashta sighed a bit, nodding. Despite Ran's enthusasim, she didn't see all that excited to be out here. Why couldn't all four of her children been smart?

"She's my daughter, yes," she agreed. "My name is Sashta." It didn't cross her mind to ask this ones name. Half the time they didn't even have one. The question more often seemed to be 'what happened to your family?' or 'why are you alone?' or something. "I suppose so you could say that..."

They were hunting, just...it was her doing the hunting. Ran could never focus long enough to learn.

Resana sat, her tail still wagging. "Well, I'm Resana" she tilted her head and watched Ran. She was funny. Resana decided she liked Ran, and Sashta wasn't too bad either, for a growned-up wolf. "Sooo ..." still curious about it, she had to ask again "You're huntin' right?" Resana stood again as her tail expressed her eagerness to hear the response. Hunting, with an adult? She could learn some real good stuff here if Sashta let her join them, and was a good huntress. But then again, if she was out here, and teaching a pup, maybe she was a huntress for her pack..

Sashta 'hm'ed, nose twitching. She was an eager little thing, wasn't she? Her intelligence was clearly far above that of Ran. Perhaps if she attempted to teach her in the company of this other pup, she could focus and learn herself, too. She'd never felt the need to shove her alpha status at anyone--so, if this pup thought her a mere huntress, let her think that.

"Alright," she agreed after a moment more of thought. "I'll teach you two." Ran yipped excitedly before she'd even finished talking, her tail going so fast back and forth it made a light 'whoosh' sound.

"Ran and Resana will be friends and hunt! Yes, yes!"

Resana giggled at Rans comment and lowered to the ground, her tail high and wagging playfully. She creeped towards Ran and pounced on her "Yup! We'll hunt everything!" Rolling off of her new friend, she looked up to Sashta "And thanks, Sashta" she grinned and stood up tall, shaking her fur back to normal "I always wanted to learn how to be a good huntress.. well," she pawed at the ground sheepishly "...if I couldn't be a shaman, o'course.." She looked back up at Sashta, nervous now that she had admitted it..

"The winds favor those who hope," she answered wisely, nodding down at Resana. Really, she had no idea what the winds did other than...blow things around. She'd heard the Shaman wandering around the freelands, who's name she couldn't remember, could speak to them. It was an interesting tale. However, that was the only story of a Shaman she'd been told of. Seems, for now, there was but one. "However, hunting is something that's very important to learn, Shaman or no."

Ran nodded enthusastically she struggled back to all fours, tail wagging faster than ever. "Yeah! Mama knows! Ran's Mama is an alpha!" Sashta might not be rushing to tell the world about it, but the majority of her offspring were. Particularly Ran. She was exceptionally proud of her parents rankings. "Ran wants to hunt now, Mama! What will Ran and Resana hunt, huh?"

Resana grinned at the alpha upon finding her true rank. She was wise. Resana liked her. She looked towards Ran and grinned, her own tail wagging for the idea of hunting "Yeah, what's there around here to hunt? Is anyone else gunna hunt too?" she smiled, remembering that the only thing she could hunt were mice and frogs.. and mice sometimes got away, too.

"Rabbits, I suppose," Sashta answered after a moment of thought. "Together I think the both of you can take one down. It's not a bad thing to get practice in hunting with others, either. I know it'll help you, Ran." As for Resana she couldn't say. Should she join a pack later that wasn't 'ever wolf for themself' like some she knew of, then it would come in handy for her as well.

Resana nodded, though she wasn't exactly sure on what Sashta meant by her words to Ran. Was Ran a bad huntress? Oh well, there were other matters at hand, and Resana was eager to begin this training.

"Alrighty, so what do we do first?" she slunk down to a creeping position and grinned up at Sashta "Stay quiet and start stalking?" and she stood again, "Or do we split up and try and make a circle? Or bark? Or howl?" What to do, what to do..

The alpha had to chuckle. How eager the young were these days! Not a bad thing, not at all. More and more pups seemed to be orphaned recently. Someone had to teach them things. Things like hunting. Who better than an alpha? And more importantly a female alpha. The smarter of the two genders, if you were to ask her.

"Well, how about we see if you and Ran can track one down by yourselves first?"

Excited and eager, a thought hit Resana. "Um.. Sashta?" her tail slowed its enthusiastic wagging "Uhh.. what's a rabbit smell like? I mean, I smelled one once, but it went into it's den, and then it smelled mostly like dirt. ...And later, it rained, and I lost the scent." she pushed at some dirt with a paw, a little embarrased that she was already proving to be a bad rabbit huntress.
