The wind was barely there, the air still. The bright sun, high at the center of the sky, shone down on the small pond. Shards of light flickered on the surface, distorted only when the water's surface rippled. The grass by the pond swayed sightly at a sudden gust of wind, only to settle at a stand-still when the wind had passed.
Crunching.
The crunch of grass beneath ones feet, or paws as it would be, on a day like this would be very apparent. Coming from the feet of Beauty? It would sound as if some sort of huge monstrosity was coming.
Beauty's pawsteps were heavy, pronounced, as she presented herself to the pond. The crunching stopped as she halted at the edge of the pond, about half a foot from the water's edge. She glanced about quickly, her eyes slitted. She would've noticed any motion a mile away. After making sure no one was around to disturb her, she stepped forward once more.
She had arrived.

The young alphess wasn't one to stake out territory. Or at least she hadn't. She'd been a careless puppy, a careless youth and now, a careless alpha.
At least until she felt the life stirring within her stomach. It was only slight, not enough to show... But it was there.
Her children. And they made her worry. They made her keep an eye out on the wolves that crossed Gomorrah's border. Now more than ever.
A grin rose to her maw as she paced through the shadows, feeling prouder than ever before. Hurricane wasn't the best mate; she could've done better. But still, he was what was useful...that and she had a fondness for the big lug.
Her inner workings were cut short as a snap of wood jerked her head up. Golden eyes glared outwards, scanning the border until they settled on a muted gray femme.
Gerda? Her ire rose and a snarl rippled up her throat.

Beauty lowered her head to the pond, her black nose touching the water's surface and sent a chill through her body. The cold water against the warmth that was her body chilled her to the bone, but she continued on. Her pink tongue slipped out and slowly started to lap up the water, each drop leaving her feeling rejuvinated.
Suddenly, there was a noise. A very audible snarling coming from someone, some where, which she could not see. She snapped her head up and looked around. It sounded as if it was someone of her kind, a wolf. An intruder? Could be. The hair along her neck stood up. She snarled back in response, pearly white teeth glinting. Though she probably wouldn't fight, it was fun to show off.

Her golden eyes stayed glued on the form of who she thought was her mother. The dispicable wench! How dare she return from wherever she went... Drinking Gomorrah's water... Her water.
The snarl from her 'Gerda' was all that the female needed. With a roar, and it was a loud one at that, Piper lunged from the brush, teeth bore and jaws open wide, aiming for the flank of her opponent.
Thinking before she jumped wasn't something Piper held close to her mind.

Beauty heard a rustling, and was left with no time to react. A white and blue blur leapt at her, jaws parted as if ready to kill. Beauty's eyes widened and she yelped as it flew at her flank, whatever it was.
"No, no! Not my fur!" She tried to scramble out of the way, but ended up being tripping over her own paws in the rush. She slipped... and fell. She squeeled as her front, right leg landed wrong, sprawling out in the grass and mud.

Piper's jaws nearly snapped shut over the flesh of the other female until the other's indignant scream shrilled out through Gomorrah.
GODS! Even Fenrir himself could hear her, she was so loud!
And Piper backed off, for she knew only one wolf who was too worried about her own coat than about pain.
Golden eyes gazed over her sister, now a matured gamma, and was actually surprised at the non-likeness of her and their mother. So she'd been wrong.
"Beauty... Where have you been, dearest sister?"

Beauty was quite relieved when she found out that their latest intruder was actually the alphess of the pack who was coincidently her sister, but she was still upset. "Out of your sights, obviously," she snapped as she stood up, brushing off her fur. She had landed in the grass, but beneath the grass was dirt. Lots and lots of dirt.
She was disgusted as she continued to lick her fur like a cat would, trying to return her coat to its former glory. When she was done, she looked up at her sister, amazed. She hadn't seen her sister for a while, but she knew that she must've grown. But this much? Wow. Her coat had turned out beautiful, her markings stunning. But of course next to Beauty, she was nothing. At least in Beauty's eyes.

"Obviously," replied Piper in a lazy tone, sitting down with her tail curling around her paws. She watched her vain sister clean herself off like a lynx might. Even water was disgusting to the other femme. A grin rose on her maw as she ripped grass from the ground and tossed it towards Beauty.
"Quit worrying so much about your looks; you're gonna end up the ugliest of us when we're old." And she gave a bark of laughter, golden eyes glittering. "Mainly because you look the most like Mom."

Beauty nodded and started to clean her coat again, smirking. She licked and licked, but was never satisfied. Why is it so hard to be this beautiful? She sighed.
Beauty nearly jumped out of her fur as the grass hit her now glittering coat. "Are you trying to kill me?" Her eyes were wide as she started to lick at the places which the grass blades still stuck to. Suddenly, she looked up, fury in her eyes. She had ignored the comment about being ugliest when she grew old, but... the second comment? Her nostrils flared. "I look nothing like her," she stated flatly, trying to sound calm. She stuck her nose up in the air and faced the water once again. Her mother was weak, and she in no way wanted to be associated with her, even if they were blood.

Pi got the reaction she wanted. The grass blades clung to her once-glimmering coat just as she finished washing.
With a laugh, she hopped to her feet and circled around her 'beautiful' sister, but stopped dead at the look Beauty glared at her with. Well, well. Looks like darling sister had a tender spot afterall!
"You and I look the most like her," she replied haughtily. "Akivo and Abital got Dad's looks...the lucky dogs."
If there was only one thing she and her sisters could agree on, it was that their mother -- Gerda, the mute -- was weak. And not only was she weak, she was a disgrace. She made Gomorrah look bad, Beta or not.
"I've smelled her around the dens," she began, almost sourly this time. "She's getting braver..."

Beauty was still washing her fur when Piper got up and circled her. She then rolled her eyes, almost laughing. "Lucky dogs is right," she murmured, a hint of disgust in her voice. Just thinking about Gerda made her skin crawl. She was weak, a disgrace, and not many liked her. And with reason.
"You've smelled her?" She scoffed. "Braver? Pft. When I get through with her..." she trailed off, not knowing what the end of her statement would have been. What would she do if she spotted Gerda? It would probably end with blood. And a body. Beauty twitched as she thought of it. As much as she hated getting dirty, this would be one thing that would be worth it.

She considered how it would be to look like Akiva or Abital... Dark blue instead of her soft white. She shook her head slightly. Maybe she wouldn't be the same wolf if she wore another's pelt... Maybe she would be.
"Yes," said Piper with a growl, "And you won't touch her. She's destined to be alone...not dead."
As heartless as the alpha was in so many ways, in other ways she wasn't. Messes and blood weren't something she was fond of...and she was the dirty-pawwed sister of the two of them!
