After he had received a hell butterfly earlier in the day informing him that his captain's examination would be taking place there, Tansen began making his way over to the old shinigami colloseum which lay near the outskirts of the seireite. From what I've heard, it sounds like this test is supposed to be in order to test my strength...I wonder who my opponent could be? He finally arrived at the colloseum and slowly made his way inside. Near the center of the colloseum was a man that looked to be in his thirties. He had a Captain's hayori that came down to his elbows and his raven black hair was styled in a rather unique way. I guess he must be my opponent. That's an unusual hairstyle...I wonder where he gets it done? There was something about the man that made Tansen feel very nervous, as though the stranger emitted some kind of aura. "Hey there...My name is Tansen Tsurugi, are you my opponent?" He decided to try to keep things friendly and held out his hand for a handshake. The figure disregarded Tansen's attempt at kindness and returned the act with a cold stare before replying. "Tansen Tsurugi...I will be your examiner and opponent. My name is Byakuya Kuchiki." The name sent shivers down Tansen's spine as he realized just who it was that stood in front of him. Byakuya Kuchiki?! he's one of the most famous and powerful shinigami in the history of the Seriete! HE'S my opponent?! He let out a quick breath and began to size up his opponent, who was currently walking to the other side of the arena. "There are no specific requirements for this match. I will engage you in combat and calculate your ability accordingly. You may have the first move." Every word he spoke seemed to contain a little bit of that same cold aura that Tansen could sense from the shinigami and he knew that he was in for the match of his afterlife.

Tansen calmly drew his sword and shifted himself into his defensive stance in order to come up with a plan of attack. I don't know anything about this guy's fighting style, only that he's extremely powerful... He couldn't read anything from Byakuya's face either, he just gave him that same cold stare. I guess the only way I'll learn anything is if I attack. He gripped his sword tightly, shunpo'd directly in front of Byakuya, and aimed a verticle slash at his body. "You're slow." He didn't know what just happened, only that he was in pain. Byakuya now stood about two feet behind him, sword drawn, and he was on the ground with a two small but painful cuts in his left side. What just happened? So fast...I couldn't even see the attack coming! What the hell is this guy?! With no chance for his opponent to even catch his breath, Byakuya raised his left hand, palm flat. "Hado number 33, Sokatsui." A large blast of blue energy erupted from his hand and Tansen could practically hear death calling his name as the kido shot towards him. What the hell am I doing?! Move!! It felt as though his body was moving on it's own as he quickly shunpo'd a few feet to his left and avoided the blast which completely burned the spot where he was just standing. His kido had so much power in it and he didn't even use the incantation...Okay, that's enough of that. He quickly stood up, ignoring the pain in his side, and stared down his opponent. "That was impressive, now it's my turn." He charged towards his opponent again and used shunpo in order to appear directly in front of him before disappearing and reappearing behind him. "Bakudo number 9, Geki." A flash of red light was emitted from Tansen's left hand and began to illuminate the area around Byakuya. I hope it makes contact, it only has to hold him for a few seconds... He shunpo'd above Byakuya this time and placed his sword in his mouth and both of his hands in front of him. I have to make this count! "Hado number 33, Sokatsui!" Even with both hands, Tansen's kido wasn't nearly as powerful as Byakuya's had been. But the blast seemed pretty powerful as it crashed onto the area where the shinigami had been standing. He made one final shupo a few feet away from where the smoke was beginning to clear around the blast. "Phew...Did I get him?"
((Post one. Bakudo number 9, Geki, is a kido that produces a flash of red light that paralyzes enemies. Hado number 33, Sokatsui, is a kido that fires a blast of blue energy at the target.))

The smoke cleared around the area Tansen had shot at and he was shocked to find Byakuya Kuchiki with nothing more than a few burns on his Captain's Hayori. "That...Was pitiful. To think that one such as I would be affected by such a weak kido..." Tansen felt a few beads of sweat form on his face as he tried thinking of a new plan. Not good...! He's too strong for my kido and too fast for my sword... He decided to try and think outside the box. "Bakudo number 4, Hainawa." A bright green rope of reiatsu came out of Tansen's fingers and he wrapped it around the handle of his blade and began spinning it around like a saw. I'll test him out at mid range and long range in order to find out which one he's weakest in. He charged straight towards the shinigami and threw the blade towards him. "...Useless." Byakuya simply swung his own sword at Tansen's and sent the weapon flying back towards the user, who quickly caught the sword and began swinging it again. "We'll see about that!" He threw the sword at the shinigami again and also brought up his left hand. "Hado number 4, Byakurai!" A small but sharp blast of lightning shot from Tansen's fingers and headed straight for Byakuya face. "Hmph..." Byakuya blocked Tansen's blade with his own again and quickly moved to his side to avoid the blast to his face but found, to his displeasure, that Tansen had managed to knock out one of the ornaments that he kept in his hair. "Not bad, it looks like you finally managed a hit. However..." He shunpo'd to Tansen's left side at blinding speed and swiftly swung his sword horizontally. "...It won't be enough to save you from defeat."
((Post two. Hado number four, Byakurai, fires a small shot of lightning at the enemy and Bakudo number four, Hainawa, shoots reiatsu ropes at the enemy.))

Tansen had anticipated that Byakuya would try attacking his weakened side and was prepared for the attack. "Not this time!" He quickly brought his blade to his left side and blocked his opponents blade. "The same attack won't work on me twice!" He clashed his blade against Byakuya's and tried to overpower him. "Hado number one, Shou." A powerful pulse of reiatsu came from Byakuya's left hand and pushed the two shinigami all the way to opposite sides of the arena. "Is that the extent of your power, Tansen Tsurugi?" He looked at Tansen with the same cold stare as before and relaxed his stance a little. Tansen was already beggining to run out of breath and was in a lot of pain from the wound in his side. "Heh...Not even close." He tightened his grip on his sword and charged at his opponent again. "I'm not about to lose to you!" He brought down his sword in a verticle slash towards his opponents body. "Absurd..." Byakuya easily brought his sword up to stop Tansen's blade and looked into his eyes with another cold stare. "You are light years away from ever being able to surpass me." Tansen looked back into his opponents with even more determination than before. "We'll just have to wait and see about that!" He put more power behind his attack and tried to overpower Byakuya once again.

Sparks began flying from both blades as Byakuya pushed back against Tansen's sword. "Your power...Where does it come from?" Tansen pressed even harder against Byakuya's sword before answering the question. "I failed to protect someone very important to me once...Because of that, I have no idea where she is or if she's even alive anymore. I'm going to find her though, and for that reason..." Tansen's reiatsu began to spike a little as he began pushing Byakuya's blade back a little. "...I've become strong!" Sensing the danger, Byakuya broke away from Tansen and began to raise his reiatsu as well. "I see...So your power comes from your desire to find your loved one. In that case...Let us test that power." He put his blade up in front of him and it began to glow bright pink. "Scatter, Senbonzakura." Tansen's eyes widened as Byakuya's blade seemed to melt away and transform into a large number of cherry blossoms. He had no time to react before he was sliced in several different parts of his body by the tiny petals and fell to the ground, covered in his blood. "That is the power of my Senbonzakura. It's blade transforms into one thousand tiny blades that move too fast for the eyes to keep up with it. A lowly shinigami such as yourself stood no chance against it." The blade of Byakuya's sword changed back to normal and he looked upon Tansen with disgust. "Tansen Tsurugi...This battle is over." Byakuya's eyes widened as Tansen stood up, stabbing his sword into the ground to keep from falling over. "This battle isn't over...I can still fight. Get ready, Byakuya Kuchiki...I'm about to show you what a "lowly shinigami" is capable of!" He stood up straight and waved his left hand over his sword. "Transmute, Tsumari-Renkin!" The blade in his hand grew a bit longer and became covered in mysterious black symbols. "let's do this!"

Tansen plunged his sword into the ground and the symbols on his blade began to glow green as he transmuted the minerals in the earth. "Take form!" He brought his sword out of the ground and a giant golem the size of a house came tumbling out of the arena floor. "This is my zanpakuto, Tsumari-Renkin. It's power allows me to break things down into basic elements and recreate them into something completely different." His golem raised it's arm and then quickly brought it down towards Byakuya, sending a small shockwave and chunks of debris at the shinigami. Byakuya simply looked at the attack with uninterest and put up his left hand. "Hado number 33, Sokatsui." Another blast of blue energy erupted from his palm and tore through Tansen's attack before crashing into the golem and reducing it to rubble. "That is interesting power, Tansen Tsurugi. But I'm afraid it will be of no use against my Senbonzakura." He brought his blade up again and it began to glow pink. "Scatter, Senbonzakura." The blade dissapeared once again and became a large mass of tiny blades. "Not this time!" Tansen plunged his sword into the ground and four large walls formed around him, protecting him from the attack. Byakuya continued to look on with uninterest as Tansen tried to protect himself. "Useless...No wall will be able to protect you from my blade." He raised his hand the Senbonzakura petals gathered into one large cluster and slammed into the wall. "I didn't plan for it to." The wall came crashing down and Byakuya saw that Tansen was not inside the small fortress. "What?" Tansen appeared directly behind Byakuya and aimed a sharp verticle slash at his left arm. "Take this!" With no sword and his Senbonzakura too far away to protect him, Byakuya felt the stinging pain of Tansen's blade cutting his left hand before shunpoing safely away. "Impressive, Tansen Tsurugi...It looks like you've managed to damage my left hand. You tricked me into thinking that you were trying to protect yourself when you were actually hiding your reiatsu and trying to come up behind me." Byakuya transformed his Senbonzakura back into a sword and held it in front of him in a ready stance. "It looks like the real fight begins now."

Tansen shifted into a defensive stance and tried to think of a plan. Like me, he uses his right hand for his sword and his left hand for kido. I've managed to damage his left hand so he may not use kido as much as he did before...Which means that he only has his sword to protect himself...Got it. He waved his left hand over his sword and it glow and transformed into twin wristblades. If I use two weapons while he only has one I just might be able to land another hit. He rushed forward and aimed slashes at Byakuya's right arm, left leg, and both of his kidney's. Even though he only had one weapon and Tansen had two, Byakuya's swordsmanship and speed easily made up for the disadvantage as he dodged, blocked, and parried all of Tansens attacks. "You're not fast enough to land any hits on me and the way you fight leaves me plenty of openings to attack. Do you really think that you can defeat me like this?" Tansen block all of the parried blows and shunpo'd a few feet away. "Maybe, maybe not. There's only one way to find out." He transmuted the wristblades back into a longsword and plunged it into the ground. I hope this works...! He pulled out the blade and created a giant cannon. "Let's see you handle this!" He poured some of his reiatsu into the cannon and fired a massive blast at the shinigami.

Byakuya shunpo'd away from the blast with little effort and brought his sword up to his face. "Scatter, Senbonzakura." The sword dissapeared once again and the thousand tiny blades surrounded Tansen's cannon and destroyed it so that the shinigami wouldn't have another chance to fire it again before they surrounded him for an attack. "This is the end." Tansen had used a lot of reiatsu creating and firing the cannon that now stood in front of him in rubble and the reiatsu spent, as well as the wounds he had recieved, were not having a positive effect. I can't lose...I've worked too hard to let it end like this... He quickly brought his sword in front of him and it began to glow again as he unleashed one of his most dangerous attacks, a giant shockwave. Byakuya grimaced as he was blown backwards and had to bring his hands up in front of him to keep from falling over. When he looked over at Tansen he was shocked to find that his Senbonzakura's attack had been deflected by the shinigami's shockwave and the blades were returning to him and changing back into a sword. "What was that attack just now? Is it another one of your zanpakuto's special abilities?" Tansen was still standing, but his breathing had become harsh and the pain in his side was worse than ever. "Yeah, that's right. By using Tsumari-Renkin's transmutation ability I can liquify the air around me, reduce it's volume, then vaporize it in a short amount of time in order to create a shockwave. It takes a lot of control and reiatsu, but it's a powerful attack. Now..." He raised his reiatsu a little and held his sword out in a fighting stance. "...Let's continue."

Tansen dashed towards Byakuya once again and transmuted the sword in his hand into a powerful looking lance, which he then stabbed into the ground to pole vault his way over his opponents head and swung around to aim a horizontal slash at his midsection. Byakuya was caught slightly off guard by Tansens attack but managed to turn around and block the slash with his sword just in time before deflecting the lance and retaliating with a slash of his own towards shinigami's badly wounded left side. Tansen stabbed his lance into the ground and used it to hoist himself up in order to avoid Byaukya's attack before pulling it out of the ground and bringing it down in a very powerful verticle slash towards Byakuya. Seeing Tansen just about to slice him in half, Byakuya made a small jump backwards and brought up his left hand. "Hado number 33, Sokatsui." The same blast of blue energy came from his hand and shot towards Tansen. Knowing that he would have no time to evade, Tansen stabbed the lance into the ground with his right hand and brought up his left for a kido spell. "Kyomon!" An invisible wall formed in front of him and became solid and glass like as it absorbed the blast from Byakuya before shattering into a thousand pieces. "Ha...ha...That all you got?" Utilizing all of his mastery of reiatsu control, Tansen ran his reiatsu through his lance and released it out of the end, propelling him towards Byakuya incredibly fast as he brought the weapon up in a jousting fashion and shot straight for the shinigami. Byakuya's eyes widened at Tansen's display of speed and used his shunpo and sword to dash past Tansen and aim a slash at his midsection at the same time. "...That was an impressive attack, Tansen Tsurugi. You channeled your reiatsu through your weapon and used it to propel yourself forward in order to launch a powerful attack without me avoiding it." He grimaced as a few droplets of blood fell onto the floor and turned around to face Tansen and revealed a deep gash in his right side as he brought up his sword. "Prepare yourself, Tansen Tsurugi."

At the sight of Byakuya's wound, Tansen couldn't help but allow himself a grin. I finally got a good hit! It's not over yet though...I used a lot of reiatsu with that last manuever and it looks he's still got plenty of steam left... Tansen tightened the grip he had on his lance and prepared to attack. One good hit could tip the scale here...I have to be more careful and look for openings in his defense. He dashed towards Byakuya and thrust his lance towards his left shoulder. Byakuya let out a small scoff and brought his sword up to block Tansens lance. "Do you honestly believe that you could hit me with moves like that?" Tansen grinned before swerving around Byakuya and thrusting his lance into the ground. "Of course not." The weapon began to glow green as two small but strong hands came out of the earth and tried attach themselves to Byakuya's legs. Tansen quickly shunpo'd a few feet away, dug his lance into the earth, and shifted himself into a kido stance. "Mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! On the wall of blue flame, inscribe a twin lotus. In the abyss of conflagration, wait at the far heavens! Hado number 66, Soren Sokatsui!" Two twin balls of blue fire shot from Tansens hands and fused to become one large mass of blue energy as they shot straight towards Byakuya. This is it! Come on...! Byakuya kept his calm as the energy blast headed towards him and simply raised his left hand. "Bakudo number 81, Danko." A large glass like wall appeared in front of the Kuchiki noble and completely absorbed Tansens kido. He then released a small amount of reiatsu and destroyed the hands that had latched onto his legs. "All of your attepts are worthless. You will not defeat me."
((Post nine. Hado number 66, Soren Sokatsui, fires two shots of blue fire at the enemy and Bakudo number 81, Danko, forms a large wall that deflects all kido below level 90.))

Tansen had to hold onto his lance in order to keep from falling. I don't believe it...He blocked my most powerful hado spell with practically no effort! He slowly straightened himself up and tried to calm down and focus. Alright...Even if he isn't showing it, that was a really high level spell and it must have used up a good chunk of reiatsu. This battle has gone on for a while, he must be getting tired too. I have to go all or nothing if I want to win this. "...I won't lose. I won't allow myself to mess up everything I trained for. Get ready, Byakuya Kuchiki." He quickly pulled the lance out of the ground and transmuted it back into a sword as he readied his stance and began raising his reiatsu. Byakuya could tell by his increased reiatsu that Tansen was getting ready for something big and decided not to give the shinigami time for whatever he was preparing. "Scatter, Senbonzakura." The blade in his hand transformed once again into the cluster of cherry blossoms and surrounded Tansen. "...It's over, Tansen Tsurugi. You fought well, I will make this quick." The cherry blossoms surrounded Tansen in a sea of pink and went in to deliver the finishing blow.

Tansen didn't even bother to move as Byakuya's Senbonzakura surrounded him. This is it. This is going to be my first time ever using this...Time to end this. He tightened his grip on his sword and raised his reiatsu even more. "Bankai." All of reiatsu was released in one great blast of reiau and smoke, blowing away the Senbonzakura blades. Byakuya's eyes widened as he witnessed his zanpakuto being blown away from the force of Tansens reiatsu. "So he's finally releasing it." The smoke cleared around Tansen's body and, for the first time, he stood in his bankai form. His shinigami bottom had turned a platinum white, his torso was now covered in bandages, and he was wearing a platinum white cloak with the same mysterious symbols as the ones on his shikai in replacement of the upper half of his usual shinigam uniform. "Hijutsu Tsumari-Renkin." He held his hand out in front of him and transmuted two twin katana's from the earth, although to anyone watching, it probably seemed as if he created them out of thin air. Taking a sword in each hand, he now turned to Byakuya with a new air of calm around him. "...Prepare yourself." He shunpo'd directly in front of Byakuya and slashed with his katana's in a criss cross fashion at his opponents torso. Byakuya was prepared for the attack and quickly brought his sword up in between Tansens blades in order to block them both and found, to his surprise, that he was being pushed quickly backwards by the force of the attack. "So your Bankai increases your speed and strength...I see." Tansen suddedenly stopped his attack and leaned his weight on his left in order to swerve around quickly. "It does more than just that." Quick as lightning, he transmuted his two katana's together in order to make a glaive, which he quickly spun around with his hands before aiming a slash at Byakuya's right shoulder with great speed and control. "It also increases the power of my alchemy!" Byakuya felt Tansen's new weapon cut his shoulder and quickly shunpo'd back and held his blade in front of him. "Your bankai's power is quite impressive Tansen Tsurugi. Very well...I shall grant you the honor of being defeated by my bankai." He let the blade in his hand drop and it dissolved into the ground before being replaced by wo long rows of giant swords. "Scatter, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi." The blades dissappeared and were replaced by thousands upon thousands of the same tiny blades as Byakuya's shikai. "Behold, this is my bankai. These blades shall be your end."
