What would you think if the Silurians returned in S5 for a 2 parted or even the finale? I think with the new technology they could look really good and scary, and they could even have sideways blinking eyes! eek
But people don't really like the idea of old series monsters coming back. What do you think?

They would have to adjust the Silurian history for current scientific theory about that era, but it could be interesting if done well. Now they could say it was an imminent meteor strike that drove the Silurians to hibernation in deep underground shelters. Imagine the cool CGI scenes you could get, creating a scene in the ancient Silurian civilization, in an era when dinosaurs were around.
Mind you though, if they keep the idea that humans have a race memory of the Silurians because long ago they were the masters of our hominid ancestors, they'd have to use another disaster, like the Great Dying, which involves radical climate shift, not an impact from outer space. But they might say the earlier disaster that all but wiped out the dinosaurs was the jump start that made the Silurians evolve into a sentient species, needing to get smart fast or die.

All though it would be neat and rather cool to see the Silurians again, I'm a tad fearful. I was sort of weirded (but not enough to not like those stories) by how they changed the Sontarans last season, and I'm afraid of what changes (other than the historical/scientific things) they'd make to the Silurians.
I'd like to see them sometime, but not that weirdly.

Well we just saw some fish people before and they weren't that interesting... I haven't come across the Silurians yet, must have missed a few episodes... well, I know I've missed quite a few. Probably not a season finale, but it would be cool to see them round! they could look pretty awesome with all the new technology and stuff, I agree. They would probably change them a bit though... so if you were fond of the old ones it might be a bit annoying I guess. I don't mind the changes so much, makes it a bit more interesting, only some of them bug me a bit.

Yes, I remember the Doctor corrected it--in "The Sea Devils", wasn't it?--but I don't remember what he tried to correct it to. Was it Eocenes? Nobody seems to have paid him any attention. I like "Earth Reptiles", as from the Virgin & BBC novels, myself.
But if I remember my old Malcolm Hulke adaptation of the Silurians correctly, they said it was a predicted collision with another planet that drove them underground, and since the collision never occurred their systems never woke them back up. neutral Sleeping out a huge extinction event that wiped out most of the kinds of life on Earth, lasted for thousands of years and is suspected to be what gave humans their jump-start to creativity & intelligence would make a lot more sense--also provide a certain symmetry to their tale, if they said the extinction event that destroyed the dinosaurs was what started the Silurians' rise to intelligence and eventual domination of Earth. Another such event would be their downfall and the rise of their successors. It would also explain why they see humans as being so dull and animal-like when they wake up, since it would be after they went into hibernation that humans had to start getting smart or be wiped out (and I've heard it almost did happen anyway).

I'd rather see the Sea Devils come back rather than the Silurians. Silurians had that goofy laser shooter in the middle of their foreheads. The Sea Devils looked like evil turtle people.
I prefer evil turtle people.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." ^ I agree; the Sea Devils pwned the Silurians. Evil turtle people with portable headlamps. xD "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here."

I prefer evil turtle people. Technically they're the same species, like humans from different parts of the world look different, the sea devils are just from the water, but I agree they are much better.
