Notice: I wrote this, because I was soooo frustrated....you don't have to read this. I just wrote it because I felt like I was gonna blow up if I didn't
and this is a good example for ppl not trying to understand handicap

few of you probably know that I'm going out to live alone....
in college dorm...well on friday I went to see the room I was going to be in.
I heard it was single so I was slightly excited......but the excitement shattered completely when I found out my wheelchair didn't fit the bathroom door....the room was very very old and the door was old fashioned which means it wasn't handicap friendly....now the people in the housing admission knew I was in wheelchair and they assigned me this.
We asked for other choice and other choice they gave me was the one that won't work either.....again with the bathroom problem...the shower booth and toilet booth was waaaay apart...they expect me to walk across??
And they told me those were the only choices. The one I couldn't even get in and the one I would have to give up showers.....they had to be kidding right? But they weren't. At this point, my mom blew up. No matter how many times, my mom explained how it wasn't gonna work. They wouldn't understand. They were having trouble understanding why it wouldn't work.
What's really making me mad was...when they said this was the only choice. They could pull off something, what do you mean they were the only choices?? scream
And then the lady switched the phone to me and then she yelled at me when I asked what did other wheelchair students do which really really made me mad.. I was really surprised on lack of understanding between ppl...they really thought I was going to fit this? It seems like they didn't think at all! And the lady blabbered me about her doing extra works....well isn't that her job??? I'm just sooooo frustrated. In the end, the lady did give me the room with handicap friendly bathroom, she just didn't give it to me because the room was taken by other ppl(who didn't need handicap friendly bathroom by the way) and when she bumped other ppl she had to do extra works. So although the outcome was good, I'm still really frustrated on ppl not trying to understand anything!

People can be profound assholes sometimes. I haven't had any incidents quite on par with that, but I've had a few nasty ones (at Disneyland, no less).

The lady needs to remove her head from her rectum and get over herself. I'm sorry you had to deal with that, but at least it worked out in the end.

oh yeah, tell me about it.
Before that incident happened.
I was 100% excited and I couldn't wait to go to school
but now I have a slight fear of going out to live in a world..
to think, world may be full of that kind of ppl and I would have to deal with them everyday makes me shiver.

what happened in disneyland?
I went to disneyland and had wonderful times...well except this one incident but that had nothing to do with my handicapness

Everything was great until I tripped on some stairs and messed my knee up a bit. That kind of stupid injury is really par for the course for me, so I just wrapped it up in ace wrap, took some ibuprofin and hobbled along my merry way. To their credit, my friends are all pretty laid-back about that kind of thing.
I can't say as much for the ride attendants; there were a couple of incidents where they were really rude and/or out of line. One basically said I should just be in a wheelchair, b/c it would make everyone's lives easier.

The bigger incident was with the Matterhorn - the line was long, and I was willing to wait as long as everyone else, but I needed to be able to sit somewhere b/c of my knee - standing on it for an hour just wasn't gonna happen.
One of my friends went off to see if there was a separate entrance where I'd be able to sit while I sat and used his jumbo-sized soda as an ice pack.
Apparently, when he tried to inquire about a separate entrance, the employee was rude and dismissive, and when he tried to explain the situation, the employee informed him that he wasn't disabled so he "shouldn't go looking for special treatment," etc.
The rest of us wanted to report the employee's behavior to some sort of supervisor, but my friend didn't want to raise a fuss, wouldn't tell us the name, etc... So, we waited in the normal line. I alternately sat on the railing until someone yelled at me, and leaned on whichever of my friends was nearest at hand. When we finally got to the head of the line, the employee my friend had delt with scuttled off (Mike pointed out the back of the guy's head). The ride attendant we then delt with wanted to know 1) why I wasn't in a wheel chair and 2) why we hadn't been more assertive about using the alternate entrance.

That person's just about as mean as everyone! stressed
whenever I go to fair or to amusement park, ppl at lines don't really say anything but I can kinda tell what they're thinking.
A)Some ride attendants are really kind and I can see in their eyes that they really want me to enjoy myself B)but I can see that some ppl think why I'm ever in here. And mostly I get B impressions 90% of the times
and I also feel sorry for my parents too. They don't say anything and they do everything they can so I can have fun and I can tell they really want me to have fun too. But I still feel sorry for them that they have to carry me whenever there are stair lines and I feel out of place.
So I try not to go to that kind of place as much as possible. We used to go to fair every summer when I was little but it's been a while since I've ride a rollercoaster now.

I've never had things like that happen to me when I'm at fairs and stuff but that's because I'm not that bad.
I can't stand for long periods of time because of my back, but the pains not so bad that I can't stand it.
I just get figity.
I do have trouble walking none stop though because I get tired.
I can last about two, two and half city blocks none stop if i'm pushing myself but then i NEED to rest or i'll start walking into things. (
I've walked into walls and polls before ....)
I love visiting NY but .... i have to start saving up money for taxis.

But the first time I really had a problem with it was in my Senior trip to Boston. We did the haunted ghost tour which was cool, but man .... did they have to build the cemetery on such a big hill? My mom kept asking me if i wanted to stop and meet everyone at the bottom when they were done but i kept saying no and hung with one of my friends and his buds in the back.

Though i did skip the boring tour the following day and my mom took the three of us shopping in Nathanial Hall instead.
That was fun heart
