It doesn't matter if you have Black friends or Black family members. There's a difference between the two. And the fact that you don't see a difference is more than enough proof for you to not be using it.

****** is racist. Plain and simple. ***** is a word used among Black people in the same way Hispanics call each other Ese and Vato. How often do you hear Blacks going around saying, "That's my Ese right there, homie." Or "Me and my Eses were drinking Mickeys." They have two different meanings. ***** is still a sensitive word because it was derived from ******, but they're still different.

As much as I hate using this site for info, the first definition has a decent example of the difference:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=*****

Dictionary.com, which is actually an official source for definitions list ****** and ***** in two different ways:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/******
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/*****

Realize that it has little to do with an accent. Many Blacks understand the difference between the two words. Those that don't need to educate themselves, and not masquerade as someone who is credible to try to teach someone else about it.

Calling me a ****** gets people punched in the mouth.

i understand they are two diferent words in the way they are used, but in a nut shell, they are the same word. ese has never been a racist comment used against latino's, thats the same as a black person sayin, wassup homie, wassup dawg, ect.

white people dont say, waddup hick
latino's - waddup w*****k
asians - waddup c***k
i NEVER hear them say that. ***** is just another word to say homie, and ****** sometimes in my case is too, ill see a friend and say whats up ******, no matter how i use the word, unless it is in a rhyme, i dont use the word *****, or if i am messin around sayin waddup *****. but if a black homie says wassup *****, i reply, whats good ******
and he know's, im not saying it as a racist comment, im saying it because i dont say *****, blacks say *****, none else says *****, the rest of the country "******" unless they think they are black.

and serio, you diddnt live in a time when slavery was an issue, so what happened back then, has nothing to do with you
it had to do with your great great great grandparents, who noone alive in your family ever even knew. you currently live in a time where race seems to determine where how and who you fit in with, but unless it is said to you, about you, to your face, you need to learn to not be offended

if i heard a white person call a black person a ****** to there face and that black person diddnt do s**t, i certainly would, because that is an appropriate time, if he calls him a ****** because the black guys is making racist comments first, i wouldnt do a damn thing
if a heard a white person say ****** in front of a group of black people though, but it wasnt dirrected at them, then it isnt a problem for anyone

Exactly, Phoenix. It's a respect thing.

@Puppet:
Ese is a word for Hispanics by Hispanics. For anyone else to use the word in a casual way, it's retarded as hell. But I've heard it used in a derogatory way plenty of times too. Ese, unlike ******, isn't racist on it's own since it doesn't have racist roots. Still, both words are meant to be exclusive to their respective races. Here's an example of a rapper pissed at Snoop's use of the word "Vato." I don't like his a**, but I understand where he's coming from.

It's more rare for a non-Hispanic to throw ese/vato around. So there aren't a lot of stories with people being offended. People throwing ******/***** around is very common though. You may have Black friends/family that tolerate it. But that's between you all. But I don't tolerate it. So I expect people around me to understand that I don't take to kindly to the word ******. ***** depends on the context. But for ******, never unless it's used in the utmost seriousness. Doesn't matter if this is the time or slavery or not, because the meaning of ****** HAS NOT CHANGED. Period. Understand the difference between the two.

Edit:
Also, know that I've seen you say ***** plenty times, and I never tripped. It's only when that "a" changed into an "er" that pissed me off.

well how i spell the word has nothing to do with how it is used
i can say ***** and mean ****** in the worst way possible, and i can say ****** and mean it as *****. color aint s**t, asian, black, brown or white, anyone can say *****
asians down here say ***** to each other more then black people, so it's not just a black thing
but i am just not into the ***** thing

when i say *****, its for two reasons, i am using it in a rap, or i am making fun of black people, not being racist, but making fun of black people who say ***** every ******** 3 words
when i say ******, i use it as a black person says *****, thats just how i say it. if im in a dispute and i say it, than yes, i mean it how it is supposed to be used, but other than that, THAT IS JUST ME

same with shizzle, when she says ******, she dosnt mean, ignorant black person, she is just saying it to her friend, if she calls me ******, its the same as me callin puppet ese, you dante naugba, or me calling you foo, or homie, its just part of our.... i dont know if you would call it culture but im gonna say that for now
PostPosted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 3:10 am

like i basically said in the thread i made, i will try not to say it, no promises
but me saying that word, is just part of my vocabulary, if i say it, im not using it to be offensive, and if i am, its to ONE person, for a reason, if i say it to you or someone you know/got love for, then i expect you to be angry, that is understandable, but i really thought you guys would be grown up to know when someone is using it to be offensive, and just using it
