Hello, I am in the process of making an RP called, At The Crossroads: A Tale of Steampunk. It is set in the Victorian Era.
SUMMERY:
The following is a story of two good friends. They are both finishing college in two very different fields; one wishes to become a technician while the other strives to become a historian.
While on break from studying and work, the technician shows the historian a machine that he has been working on; although, he isn't quite sure what it does. The historian flips the switch which activates it; and like all time machines it sucks the two into a portal which then sends them back in time.
They land in an old broom closet in an abandoned apartment. After searching the small apartment for clothing, food, or company, they stumble across a newspaper laying upon the floor. After reading the current date they realize that they have landed about one hundred, or so, years in the past.
As time goes by they make themselves known with new identities: Jack Thule (technician) and Gavin Chamberlain (historian); thus, making a living under various jobs such as: detective, technician, store manager, foreman, and so on. They soon discover that this age has developed technology through the uses of iron, metal and steam; hence, the subject of steampunk is described.
They then befriend two women whom they, over time, get emotionally attached to. Evelyn Harkins a tall, wealthy, deadly attractive and sultry woman who is won over by Jack's subtle charms. Gavin's approach, however, is different. He ends up fighting with Alicia Roman (gunfire ensues) a well built blond who works with Chief Inspector Joseph Zigmund. (A decent but strong willed man tries to keep the city and its people safe by doing what is good and moral.)
As time passes, they realize, their actions and what they have done to help the world around them has changed the course of history. Soon, the historian wants to leave because he knows that change is not good at least for the technician because he's in a wheel chair and is physically challenged and knows that if they change too much, history may take a violent turn. In conclusion, Gavin plans to make his way back to present day and end it all, to amend his mistake.
When Vladimir Krochnekov, a well-known occult leader, opposes them by saying they are fanatics and their invention of steampunk has jeopardized the society's religion and beliefs to which Vladimir's action's (and they are brutal) upon which, the loyal friend is forced to take the technician to the present day and be administered into a hospital. While he recuperates, Evelyn is being told the ways of the current society from Gavin's point of view. She is taken back by this; as for Alicia, she cannot get enough.
While in his room, Jack relays to the historian that he doesn't want to stay in the present and would rather go back to the past and stay there because they have developed technology that would help things like mortal wounds or being treated for them. So the historian, the technician and their girl-friends make the way back to the past, again, to have one final standoff with Vladimir - with the help of steampunk devices and their lovely ladies.
They, after a long harsh battle, are victorious. To which Gavin says, "Ok, it's done, lets go home!" Jack, however, tells him: "Even though it is finished, I want to stay here." Upon hearing this, the his friend protests and says that the technician would be better spent in the present day and forget or somehow undue what he has done to this society so everything can go back to a normal state to which his good friend says no and continues by asking him to do one thing before he parts.
"Once you get there, visit my grave." To which; Gavin with great regret, agrees. Once they said their piece and part ways, Gavin goes back to present day and dismantles the time machine. Later on, the technician, while going over old news archives with his new wife, discovers that the technician has changed society's views on the disabled and has improved their way of life.
The the story ends with Gavin visiting the grave of his friend. He is finally at piece with himself.
PLEASE NOTE: I understand that this is a very detailed synopsis...but it is what happens in the in-between moments, the overlooked segments of the storyline, that I would want to work on, as well as enjoy with as many people as possible.
