I bought my wife a DS lite for her birthday (so she could get Rune Factory) and am trying to figure out what else she might like.
She loves strategy RPGs (FFTactics, Ogre Battle etc), FPS games, RTSs, and fighters.
She already is going to buy Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass and Pokemon Diamond, and I was considering getting her Front Mission.

Front Mission is tough and a bit unforgiving. I love it though. One of my favorite series.

Yeah, I've read that it's pretty brutal, but that's right up her alley. She loveloveloves FFTactics, Vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile etc, which are all pretty damn hard IMO.

Have you suggested the FF remakes?
Oh, you said RTSs and fighters..
And good choice with Phantom Hourglass. The single greatest game on the DS. (I loved the boss battles.)

Yeah, she loved Final Fantasy IV back in the day, so I'm sure she'll get the remake when it comes out.
I was looking at Luminous Arc, but the reviews on that one seem mixed.
Anyone here have any experience with it?

I was planning to get Luminous Arc just because of Mitsuda doing the music. But then I found out he only did one song in the entire game, and thought it was really sleazy how much they threw his name around.

I also want to recommend both DS Castlevania games and the upcoming one is looking good too.
Also tell her to keep an eye out for the Dragon Quest remakes of 4, 5, and 6 for they're bound to be golden.

Yeah, that's pretty bogus. Mitsuda is pretty talented, but it sucks that they would hoar his name out like that.

She loved Harmony of Diss. and Aria of Sorrow for GBA, but was let down with the Aria sequel on the DS (played it on mine).
The last one had terrible artwork, which is a turnoff for that series, and I am personally on the fencepost about the new one.
Dragon Quest games are both easy and a bore plotwise from my experience, and I know she'd hate them (loathes Akira Toriyama).
