Alchemic Kraehe eh were i live us percussionists/drummers are taken for granted. imo, the band would be nothing without us, but they might still survive. I just defend my independence as a drummer/percussionist, and if someone puts me down... hehe they regret it ^_^ AMEN! That's exactly what happens at our school! We aren't paid attention to at all! But, noooooo, make one little screw-up, and the entire band turns around in their chairs and stares at you... Jerks >.>

Ino-rules-123 Why cant people give drummers our props we try just as hard as the rest of the band!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!???!?! No, we work twice as hard! Everyone says (not in percussion), oh we have to work SO hard, knowing fingering, buzzing, and catching air and you guys just hit stuff . . . um hello? We have to learn over like 20 instruments! Snare drum, bass drum, marimba, vibraphone, tamborine, claves, timpani, chimes, hi-hat, sometimes drum-sets *THAT'S 10*, sometimes piano (like for me), crash cymbols, suspended cymbols, congas, steel drums *THAT'S 15*, bongos, cow bells, triangle, tom-tom, hand-bells *THAT'S 20!* I can go on! Sometimes, like us, we do special perfomences with the most unexpected instruments! Our percussionists had to do a piece called Tubz by Josh Gottry on chairs! It wuz crazy hard! It blew their minds cuz there was so many places to hit, rudiments, and 72nd notes! We had to hit as fast as we could! PERCUSSION ROCKS! 3nodding

Technically, no. I'm the only girl in Percussion ((Yeah, cuz all guys tried out saying "I WANNA HIT STUFF", then figuring out u HAVE TO WORK blaugh )) and I work extremely hard and I don't complain and I made State Honors Band 4laugh . I mean, there's only 7 of our school's percussionists, and I'm the only girl, but we treat each other as family and work hard and ignore the rest during practice.
. . . until we get out of Band Rehearsal. ((did I spell that right? sweatdrop )) cuz i havez a TON of friends not in percussion

At my school, the drummers are the most respected people of anybody in the ENTIRE school. They do a lot of work. I think they practice and actually work harder than any part of the band except for the colorguard sometimes. (what? tossing equiptment is NOT easy at all!) Drumgasmic Monkeyguy the band im in is almost in love with the drumline we keep the tempo and keep the pit from killing the show entirely Sorry but I'm in pit and I find that offensive because pit can do great without drums, but without pit, winter percussion would just be a lot of "organized noise" I mean yes the drummers do a lot and I'm not saying that they should be ignored but even if the pit "kills the show" I'd like to see you: communicate with the rest of the section, look up at the judges box, do visuals, hit the right notes while barely looking at the keys, and watch the drum major. No one section alone is responsible for "killing a show."

Well heres the thing at my school with the percussion section. They are like amazing and are highly respected but, everytime you try to strike up a conversation with them or try to be friendly and help them out with something, they look at you like your from a different planet.

Resultant Force Because you guys always b***h and moan! Learn your parts and stfu, honestly. what the hell is your problem? I bet you wouldn't last if you had to play percussion. Some of those people do their best and just aren't musically talented. Not their problem. If people like you didn't give them such a hard time then everyone would be a lot happier. Just get over it.

Oh my gosh, thank you soo much! That pretty much is a great summary. People give a hard time about being easy and they can do so much better when it's really hard!

No one section alone is responsible for "killing a show." Yeah, but in my school, we do it weird, we're mixed up. I'm sometimes pit, sometimes drumline, and sometimes extra instruments. Personally, I like pit better. People say it's soo easy playing a xylophone or marimba that you don't know fingering but I ask them to play the song we're doing and they look at it and say "I'm confused, how am I supposed to know which note is which, they look the same," the point is, we need to do that with the fast tempo, and like you said, communicate with the rest of our section, look up at the judges box, do visualrs, hit the right notes while barely looking at the keys, and watch the drum major. That's a perfect explanation.
