Ok so, for those of you who aren't familiar with my random 3 O' clock in the morning idea here it is;

Basically instead of just a normal "fluff" based character sheet (Favorite color, personality ect...) My idea is to actually give the characters a true Codex stat list; build a character based on a codex entry with proper equipment and points total.

Of coarse the points total would be determined before the RP started and such and the limitation of unit's available to be used (if any) Which may be limited to "people" as to avoid some one taking a Land raider and a character (funny idea) but not what we are after with this idea.

Terrain--

Now as for terrain I came up with another idea, as well as a text description of our area if you are changing the scenery post a picture example of what your describing I.E. Google a swamp and post the image. This way it gives people a clear idea of what they have to work with instead of "Our men are starving in this swamp... Oh thats no big deal Sergeant, there is a Mc D's right there." OR "Oh NO! We are trapped in a dead end hall! ::the squad quickly rounds the corner to safety::"

Movement and turns or (posts)

Just as in the game we all know and love, you can only move once per turn (post), So! Only do the same in your posts not "Officer awesome_Sauce Leaps over the wall coming to rest on the ground on the other side, he takes off running again killing every thing in his path then leaps into his cherry red bane blade on 36" inch rims and peals out."

If your action is hideously absurd for your character to do such as an Ig leaping an 9 foot wall in a single bounding leap, make a difficult terrain check, if you miss you go splat and your character needs to evolve his story from their. If you past your check, well he could have had a strong tail wind or the motivation to escape the Tyranids behind him.

I think if we keep to using some of the usable 40k game mechanics in story we leave some of the rp's outcome to chance rather then a linear story line, you just don't know if your character will survive their armor check smile

Gaia has a great dice rolling system we can use I will post an example in the next post.

Regroup (if any)
Movement
Shooting
CC/resolution (if any)

Deserted town

The enemy had them on the run, but they wouldn't be for very long, it was their duty to swat this xenos scum from the face of the Emperors holy soil.
Sergeant Guyfres squad had taken heavy losses, only 4 of them remained. The situation was tense as his squad moved quietly into the deserted town, they stopped when they heard a sound from behind them! "False alarm, it's only a dog Sir." The dog quickly scurried away from them into the rubble. Then it happend! Another sound, the sound of clunky mechs and feral screams, It was the enemy, it was the orks! They quickly found their targets and opened fire! There where 8 of them to our 4 but we didn't waver.

* Sergeant gets 2 attacks other units get 1 total of shots is 5 *

As you can see based on marines stats I hit with 3 of my shots and missed with 2

Character creation:

Since i thought it would be interesting that as an RP-er you would start as a basic troop and work your way up to the more advanced levels of Characters. (From a normal space marine scout up to a space marine to a terminator to a Chaplain for example)

And since point cost should be a consideration i shall try to explain that as well. Since we all need a certain limit to make it all fair somewhat. See i based my character on a 15 point limit. This point system could be used to determine how much points a character gains for advancement to the next rank.

So here i shall do my best to create a character in my point of view...

I like that idea allot, if you win or complete an objective in the story you could gain points to add to your character and similarly for the player your pitted against in the story. Since certain aspects of the stories out come is based on dice rolls its not a defiant progression. You cant just say I win because I do. 3nodding Im not sure though what kind of points reward would be fair though. sweatdrop

Well i was thinking when someone levels up they could become the squad leader...then they can go to the next simplest/similar rank.

For example a player playing as a space marine race would start out as a Scout. Then become the Scout leader (or whatver theyre called). Then from that rank when they level up they become a space marine in a tactical squad. From there to a Sergeant of a tactical squad and then can either continue in the troop section to a assualt squad or go on to a fast attack becoming a scout biker.
(Just a suggestion)

And points would be awarded mostly by codex point values of whatever unit you kill. A fire warrior (Tau) is worth 10 points. So if you were to kill 3 fire warriors it would be 30 points to you.

Also there would have to be some kind of mods to award special points for like blowing up a bridge to stop a convoy or even just to make sure noone is "cheating".
its not exactly something that can be done with just 3 or 5 people i think XD

And wargear i guess would be deducted from the points you are awarded...and are avaliable to the unit you are

I like the idea of advancing in rank for story but not per kill, I would think objective only. Bearing in mind that we are using actual game mechanics to determine the success or failure of a mission.

What about distance though? I mean, BS, leadership rolls, slow and purposeful, fleet... they all take distance into account.
