Wise choice!
When playing the trombone, DO NOT scrunch up your left shoulder...If you do, you'll end up like me, with a bad shoulder.
And if you can't reach a certian position, don't force yourself, you should be comfortable when playing, playng shouldn't hurt.

Also, washing out the instrument is good, just don't do it everyday... Maybe about..Ever week or more?

And about the bell connector, don't twist it up too much, it will get stuck ... Thats what happened to me, my dad had to use pylars(sp?) and the hand brace broke..

And about cases, I read on some website that maybe you should get a case that has a security lock. I wouldn't, because you may lose the code and yeah...But now I'm not saying get the cheapest case, get a reasonable case thats around 300$, not 100$, but then again not like $500+...(Whatever your parents can buy)

Ill tell you what. Ive been playing trombone for six years and its the funnest instrument i have ever played. All I can say is, stick with it and practice. Getting the positions right isnt the hard part(although it takes practice to get it perfect). Hehe. The part you will need to practice the most is tuning. Becuase if you cant tune, everything will sound horrible so you will have to compensate by moving the slide in or out if its sharp or flat. So youll have to practice. Also, if you can get one, Buy a bass trombone. I have one. It has a trigger so youll have a lot easier of a time playing. You wont have to reach out for those 6th and 7th positions for fast songs. Last tip I have is.... HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!! I personally think that It is one of the funnest instruments ever. There are soo many tricks you will learn on your own. Plus, its not hard to experiment on it a little and try to figure out a song you like on it.

Well, Im glad you made this decision on such a fun instrument. If you have any questions, message me.
