Sup guys! I searched the internet for some advice, but it all turned out to be religious and not helpful...so I figured I'd ask here! : D

Here's the low down, I'm going to be Residential Assistant (RA) living in an old house on my school campus in a few days, and the house has had some strange paranormal activity. None of this activity has been harmful, just as a note. I lived there my Freshman year, and we would hear the sound of boots going up and down the stairs, and also things like toothpaste would be tossed in the air and doors would be opened (like, door knob turned) in the night. We named the ghost Randall, as one of my roommates apparently had spoken to him. I never saw him, and I never had any encounter with him.

The students who lived there last year (my sophomore year) have also had some experience with him. They heard the boots, and their cat would hiss and moan at the stairs to the point where the animal needed to be put in a special room at night. Randall apparently removed paintings from the wall and had appeared in people's dreams. They weren't nightmares, just normal dreams, of him and an old woman. Some of the students claimed to have seen him in broad daylight looming behind another student, and they say he is a tall old man in a suit. People have also claimed to hear whispering and have seen trash barrels move across the floor.

Now, I have no problem living with an entity at all, but I want to 'make a good impression' so to speak. When I move into the house should I announce that I'm going to be living there? Should I make some sort of offer or say something in particular? I have never lived with a spirit before, and I would love to, but I certainly don't want him to behave in a harmful manner or scare my students to death xDD I am also going to be in the house alone for a week and a half before the students move in, so I have plenty of time to talk and make offers without students thinking I'm insane or something ha ha.

I was just curious about your experiences. Thanks for reading C:

I would do some research on the history of the house, including previous owners to see if I could get some idea of who "Randall" is. Then you could perhaps find out why he's there or what could allow him to move on.

It sounds like he hasn't done anything malicious so far, so I wouldn't worry about trying to appease him or anything.

I'd tell him that you'd be moving there, why it's important for you to be there, and that you mean no harm. Also, i'd throw in that you're fine with sharing your living space so he doesn't feel threatened by you're being there. I've found that by doing this the spirit doesn't try to scare you away.

I'd definitely announce to the entity that you will be moving in, but also let it know that you notice it is present if and whenever it moves something. If you get annoyed it would also be a good idea to tell it to leave you alone for a while.
Just tricks I've heard of from someone I knew that lived in a haunted location. I'm not sure if it works or not.

Also, as Obscurus said, do some research if you can. Visit the local library or other location that might hold records of the area's residences.

Make sure Randell as you call it knows that you will be living there and that the space is yours not his. Even if he doesn't make any sign that he's there he will most likely hear you as long as you speak out loud, most entities are like people they can't read your mind. If he ever annoys you while your trying to do something like homework, just chill or something tell him to leave you alone or that you need to be alone and ask if he can come back later if its something important or something along those lines. It works trust me all the houses I can remember living in(I've lived in 5 only remember 3 of them the first two I was too young to remember) have been haunted, I'm gifted with the dead so to speak, the advice your getting does work. And it seems that what he's doing is just harmless things going about his buisness so to speak, doing what he would have done in life, and sometimes like with things flying acrossed the room or moving making his pressence known, its just human nature to want people to acknowledge that your there. If you want say hello to him ever now and then it might make him feel welcome and more comfortable around you even.

And like Obscurus said do research try to find out who he was when he was alive to you can call him by his actually name, see if there is any possible way for you to help him out. Its always good to help out entities that are stuck in our world. But as far as making an offering or something don't worry about it he isn't some god your trying to please he's just a spirit just try to be comfortable with him and live your life as you always have
