So, the other day I was at Half-Price Books, of which I am so happy to have one in my area. My mom and I were coming home from work when we decided to stop by because she had a 15% off coupon. I go in, scan the shelves, and find like 2 or 3 books I like. We headed to the counter and placed the books and the coupon on the counter.
"Sorry, kid. You have to spend at least $20 for the coupon to work."
"Well, crap."
I went back to the shelves, and because I was only like $5 short of $20, I grab the Helsing book Shoy wanted. I start to walk back to the counter when out of the corner of my eye, I see three books with white spines with tan writing on the outside. I turn to look at the title. "Desert Coral". ...
My mind explodes.
It was a series I had read when I had checked it out of the library years ago, and I had loved it. (info, check here). So I bought it up in an instant with a second coupon in a separate purchase.
I re-read the books over a bit of time as not to rush through them all, only to finish the third tonight. Now, I always wondered why I never looked for the next one, but it wasn't until the last page of the third that I remembered WHY. "Desert Coral | 3 | END". The annoying part? THAT WAS THE FREAKING CLIMAX OF THE BOOK.
Turns out the company that owned the series stopped translating them during the biggest action scene of the book. ********. So I searched frantically for the next part, because no one likes a cliffhanger, right? Can't find Raws. Can't find Scanlations. All I can find is a copies of the final 2 volumes in Spanish and Chinese. I don't know Spanish, I know some Chinese.
But SERIOUSLY. ARGH.
tl;dr: I liked a series long ago, I found it, only to find out the book's translation was canceled at the climax. No sign of the originals.
I'm cranky.
