 It was a pretty big city, though that was probably an understatement. Midday, not too warm but not too cold, people busily hustling from one place to another, and it was the perfect day for shopping in Katarina.
It. Was. Huge.
It was Riza's first trip there, and the sheer size and population made her reel. She wasn't used to this at all, being as she lived literally in the middle of nowhere. She had some spare time on her hands, so she had decided to actually be adventurous for once....as well as stop and buy some supplies. One could never have too many supplies.
But, wandering around the twists and turns of the city, the trainer began to feel a bit sick. Maybe it hadn't been such a good idea after all.... she thought to herself, looking up, down, left, and right for a sign of some sort. It didn't help that she was a bit on the small side.
It felt like she was stuck in an ocean of people, being pulled this way and that way--where ever they were going, she had to go. But she didn't want to!
Fighting the current of people, Riza pushed towards the outter parts of the city where there were less people. Panting, she leaned back against a wall, her head pounding.
"This wasn't such a good idea after all...." she sighed sadly to the air, and her thoughts were only being amplified by the looks of the part she had run into to get away from the hustle. What had her mother called it? A 'shady' place?
People were starting to give her strange look, and she fidgeted uncomfortably, trying to catch her breath and figure out what she should do.
She didn't have much time to think when a man walked slowly over to her, looking down, "Atch, missy, whatcher doin' here alone...?" Riza flinched and eyed the man, noticing the big red R on his hat that was worn low over his brow, "N-Nothing. I was just leaving...."
She started to walk away when he caught her, "No y'don't. Now, how abouts y'hand over your pokemon...?"
"Let go!" Riza shouted, not mentioning that she didn't even have pokemon. It would probably be better not to say anything....[[ I tried. 8D; WHO DOESN'T LOVE CLICHE OPENINGS? -dance- <3 ]]

"I hear you assisted during that caravan to the mines." The shadowed man bluntly pointed out, shrugging lightly, "You could have done a better job seeing as how..."
Great, more rambling. Kailana closed her eye and resumed her leaning against the cool wall of the alley surrounding them, ignoring the man as he continued talking to her. Finally she spoke up, breaking his determination to break her confidence, "Are you finished? I didn't come here to be criticized, just tell me my next task or give me that letter."
"Er," he was taken aback a bit at her sudden interruption, but thrust his hand forward nonetheless, a letter clutched in his fingers.
She didn’t bother to stay much longer, snatching the paper from his hand and tucking it between her belt and bottoms. Her red eye gave the man another fleeting glare as she turned from him, walking further down the alleyway.
Her mind could only begin to imagine what the letter might have said; most likely it reprimanded her for not doing a better job at keeping the trainers in line. However, she had somewhat of an excuse lined up, how was she to watch so many of them without any help was beyond her.
A voice cried out from one of the nearby alleys to distract her mind. ”Hrm?” She picked up her pace to investigate; hardly any noise was ever heard over in the shadow districts, no one ever wanted to call attention to themselves. Standing before the opening to the alley, she saw a familiar sight: Riza! What’s that, an unusual figure harassing her? This she had to see up close. ”Hey, get yer mitts off ‘er!”

Kick and run, kick and RUN! Riza's thoughts screamed, though her legs wouldn't react right. She Tugged on her arm, looking for an exit out--even going back to the people sea would be better--!
She turned towards the sound of a voice, and her jaw dropped.
"Kai?!" Riza gasped, not expecting in the least to see the other trainer here. The man holding her suddenly let her go, and she lost her balance, yelping as she hit the ground.
He turned to the other trainer and grinned with a false warmness, "Ah, welcome! Y'a friend of 'ers?" he pointed to Riza, "'Cause if you are, I haf'ta take y'pokemon first."
He stepped towards Kai, "Ain't no one gonna help ya 'ere!"
He laughed smugly. This was easy pickings.
Riza sat confused on the ground....why was Kai here? Should she help her? Not like she could do anything...
Better yet, should she feel sorry for the grunt? He obviously didn't know who he was dealing with.

Kailana's face twitched slightly in frustration as the grunt wandered dangerously close towards her, it was as if he was trying to tred on water! Just who the hell does he think he is?! Obviously he doesn't know who's who around here.
"Listen here, you," she wasn't about to take any crap, not even from a lowly grunt as she proceeded to grab him by the shirt and lift him, pushing him forcefully into the brick wall nearby. "You're going to let me and this pretty little lady go, ya got it?" She grinned her evil grin, picking up the scarf's end and fwapping it in his face for a bit so he got the message, "Next time you won't be lucky." Her hand let him drop to the soiled ground as he shouted, "Now scram!!"
Her attention turned to the other trainer, wondering as to why she was on the ground no less! That wasn't the right place for her, she'd get dirty down there. She flashed a small harmless smile, "Are you alright?"

A fight. The grunt hadn't expected that. A soon as he was dropped, he took of running, "I'll get you yet!"
Riza stood up, rubbing her sore spot, "Haha, yeah I'm fine," she dropped her gaze to the ground, "Thanks...."
The younger trainer looked back up to the older one, wondering how they'd met in the city, of all places. It really wasn't any of her business to know what Kai was doing there, but she was curious. Last thing Riza had thought about would be bumping into another trainer--at least one she had met before.
I would be rude to ask, but she figured by this point politeness didn't matter much in the presence of Kai. Well, at least, the general attitude you'd show towards as stranger, and the trainer wasn't exactly a stranger since they had met before, right?
She looked at the ground, then back up at Kai, tilting her head, "It's a bit...weird....." she fumbled with how to form the question, but decided that she might as well be blunt, "Why're you here?"

"You're welcome," she mumbled coldly back. Kailana looked back at Riza with her arms folded, slightly annoyed by her inquiery, "What'm I doing here? What about you! This isn't a place you, of all people, should be, Riza." A newbie trainer shouldn't have been wandering around the part of town known for Team Rocket grunt hangouts, let alone one without a pokémon or someone with them to help.
She turned around, not bothering to hear her answer, "You shouldn't even be here." If only she knew she would have to deal with such childish issues this morning she would have brought her pokémon along with her.

Riza flared up defensively. It wasn't like she had tried to end up there! She just needed to get away from the masses! It wasn't exactly her fault!
...then again, it had been her idea to go to the city in the first place. She shivered. No, she didn't want to be here.
The trainer let out a sad sigh, feeling like she had done something wrong. She glanced at the other trainer, her back facing her.
"Well...it's not like I wanted to end up back here..." she said softly, "I just got lost...I haven't ever been to a city like this before and it was...."
What was it? There was a word for it....ah, yes.
"Overwhelming," Riza concluded.
She attempted to change the subject quickly to avoid a conflict, "Do....do you live around here or come here a lot...? Y-you seem to know your way around...."
