((M'kay, here it goes. O_o;;;

Not at the sanctuary at first. D8 ))

Sarge frowned, walking along the sidewalk, a taut frown stretched across his face. His ears were perked, swiveling to catch any sounds that could be classified as a thread, his tail more or less between his legs. He really should have asked Romulas to go with him. He really should have. Romulas always told him not to go to strange places without him. He should have listened because now he was lost. He couldn't read the street signs or maps and most of the people he had seen while wondering around looked rather unsavory. The type that were best left alone. So, what was he supposed to do? Wait until someone got worried and came looking for him? Most likely. He frowned and flopped down on the concrete, pulling his legs to his chest.

User ImageThere had been a wall of rain; a torrential downpour which had engulfed the roads and kept him for days from enjoying a walk. Today, however, was a tad bit different - bearing in mind that with its leaving, the shower had given to the outside world a heavenly scent which made him all the more enthralled as he strolled, his pace relatively hasty, down the sidewalk. It was when his golden gaze - smiling and gentle - had caught sight of Sarge, that he decided to stop his forward movement. So Gideon stood, his arms akimbo and his head cocked to the side with increasing curiosity. The other sat, visibly upset, as his arms hugged feebly at his knees in an attempt to shield himself from someone - or perhaps something. He understood, however, what the other's features were implying immediately - because it was something that he carried in the very pockets of his own existence; this stranger was lost. And, from the looks of it, scared - which Gideon found unerringly troublesome. He took a moment to ponder and gulp down the lump developing in his throat, after which he approached - his posture uncertain.

He crouched before the other hybrid, metallic orbs peering questioningly at the state of which Sarge was in. There didn't seem to be any harm done to him physically, at least - but that did little to ease the wolf's concern.

"Hey there..." It came as a murmur - a droplet in comparison to the shuffling of stranger's feet. Gideon frowned; how inconvenient - his incapability to speak louder. But judging from the boy's current state, anything of a higher volume would have been startling; quite frankly, his quiet voice all in itself might have been enough to frighten the other hybrid in their current mindset.

He chewed at his lip, now questioning his decision to have approached in the first place.

Sarge was harmless enough, of course...

But that's not quite what troubled Gideon, rather that he, himself, might be unwelcome conversation in this stranger's book. That he might be unwelcome assistance. All of that was worry-worthy.

But if either were the actual case, however - the other male could shoo him off in any way he felt necessary; by any means.

So Gideon continued: "Is everything alright?"

Sarge had heard Gideon just a few seconds before he stopped. He tensed, as the other male stopped and looked at him, his ears flat against his head. He resisted the urge to whimper as he heard him approach, gripping at his arms and keeping his eyes fixed on the ground. After all, he didn't know who the man was or what his intentions were. So primal instinct told him to be on guard and to run if this man was a threat.

He took in a deep, nervous breath as Gideon spoke, listening to the tone of his voice, rather than what he was saying. He voice was quiet and gentle, though it could be deceptive. He waited, unmoving, until Gideon spoke a second time. Again he listened to his tone, it hadn't changed, it was still nonthreatening. So, slowly he raised his eyes to look at him, to read his expression. He blinked, startled at his features. It wasn't all too often that Sarge met someone like him outside of those who were in charge of looking after him.

Feeling a bit more comfortable with the man he raised his head upward now, blinking at him and biting at his lip. Out of instinct he pushed himself backwards slightly, to put some distance between them. He hadn't caught what the man had said but out of experience Sarge knew he would either grow impatient with him and walk away, or repeat himself. So he continued to stare at him timidly, sucking at his lower lip.

User ImageHis first instinct, understandably enough, was to leave; which seemed to be exactly what this hybrid wanted, judging from the frightened look he offered once he finally noted Gideon's features. The wolf frowned, but went against his better judgment and stayed crouched before the figure which had retreated aback momentarily; he went against his better judgment, also, to wait patiently for reply. But it didn't come; and - this thought being conjured up from the timid nibbling upon his own lip - Gideon decided, quite unwillingly, that Sarge didn't want him there - which was what he had predicted in the first place before having even approached. Stupid Gideon. His feelings were a tad hurt, considering the look that was given to him; but aside from that little detail, things were fine. Sarge wasn't injured - he didn't appear to be lost, considering his lack of vocal response. Apparently Gideon himself was the thing that was troubling the other male; and that would be a fine indication to take his leave.

He ran his tongue along the back of his incisors contemplatively, after which he brushed clawed fingertips through silver tresses. But this shouldn't be something to ponder; it was clearer than diamond that the other male wanted him to retreat; he was the 'Big Bad Wolf', after all - it was understandable.

Speaking of which, he wondered where - precisely - Little Red Riding Hood was right about now.

But such things were of little concern. What he needed to do now was what Sarge wanted him to do, and that was leave. He would do it out of love, of course; bearing in mind that he, himself, wanted to stay and help.

His help was not wanted, though - and moreover, probably not even needed.

So he straitened into a tall stance, gaze concerned and mouth motionless. He wondered, quietly, how to phrase his next vocalization delicately, considering the other male's feelings towards him already. "I understand." It came as a murmur whilst he forced his lips upward: "I didn't mean to cause you any harm or discomfort - and for it, I apologize." Whereupon he turned around, his tail flicking behind him with an unspoken thoughtfulness: "I'll leave you be, then."

Sarge tilted his head at the mans silence. He released his lip, looking up at the male as he stood and straightened, blinking. In the back of his mind he noted that Gideon was pretty big, bigger than himself at least. Slowly he uncoiled a bit as the other turned to leave, cocking his head to the side. Normally, he wouldn't mind, as it had seemed to be a normal reaction but the man had looked, well, hurt. Usually when people walked away they were either angry or annoyed. It wasn't his intention to hurt anyone.

The male, he decided, might have been trying to help. That, or this was a very well laid trap. "Wait!" he yelped, springing on all fours, still hunched down slightly. "I....you...uh, didn't...uh, repeat yourself" he murmured, tail curled between his legs again, ears flat. "I-I w-was waiting for you to...repeat yourself...I...I didn't hear" he mumbled, his voice low and cracking from lack of use. "You...uh, d-didn't hurt..." he added, stumbling and trying to find the right words to use. Speech had almost always been a problem for him. He kept his head bowed slightly but looked up at Gideon apologetically.

User ImageHe stopped the retreat upon request, a widened gaze flicking back to view Sarge uncertainly. The demand had been an unexpectedly blatant squeal, which Gideon had - quite obviously - found surprising, to say the least. Mere moments prior the outburst the other canine had refused to speak at all, let alone so loudly. He whirled around - the pace of which was relatively slow, whereupon he quirked an elegant brow at the sudden quieting of Sarge's tone. His head tilted a tad to the right with each word that the other had to offer; they were all stuttered, of course - mixed and jumbled into a concoction of hesitance and discomfort. His nose crinkled at the cracking in a voice that was otherwise remotely simple to understand. He noted, questioningly, the other's choice to speak to him hunched down on his hands and knees - and also took into consideration the uneasiness of the boy, displayed quite clearly by the actions of his tail; the wolf heaved a quiet sigh at this, and approached again - slowly. He kneeled before Sarge, eyes curious: "It's alright." He murmured, slender finger moving to the hybrid's chin as he prodded it upward gently. "I was merely inquiring as to whether or not you were feeling okay. You seemed to be in either bad health... or perhaps lost. I've broken bread around both of those hearths - so..." Gideon paused, pondering his next words wisely: "I suppose you could say I was merely trying to help." He offered a tender smile, wagging his tail feebly so that it thumped in a poor rhythm against the concrete. He took the tiniest moment to pat the other's head before standing and stepping backward thoughtfully, his intentions clearly to give Sarge room - which he figured the canine would be seeking after his sudden closeness.

But he understood, now.

Sarge didn't seem all-too old - so perhaps he had been instructed by someone to avoid talking to strangers - 'strangers' included Gideon, of course, bearing in mind that this was his first encounter with the other wolf. He bit his lip doubtfully - unsure as to whether or not he should truly lend his assistance. If the other male was, in fact, lost - then perhaps it was best to stay still and wait patiently for his friends or family to locate him.

... But mapping out a person was far more complicated then mapping out a building. Aside from that matter, Gideon wasn't even truly sure of the entire circumstance; Sarge could be homeless, quite honestly - homeless and ill; in which case bringing him home to Gregory would be in order.

So he waited patiently for response.

Sarge kept his eyes on Gideon as he approached, blinking as he kneeled. His ears twitched as he felt the others fingers on his chin and he lifted his head, keeping it in place stiffly and looking up at the other male as he spoke. He continued to keep still as his head was patted and watched as Gideon stepped back. He looked the other male over, considering him. His actions didn't seem threatening and both his voice and his expression had remained calm. He seemed nice.

Slowly he relaxed, raising him self to sit back on his legs. He flicked his tail thoughtfully, ears still back and laid his hands in his lap. Even if he couldn't help him find his way home, his company would be welcome, especially since he was a drastic improvement over some of the people he had seen about. "Lost...." he said simply, looking back up at Gideons face. He had said he was trying to help, hadn't he? Sarge had always been told, when someone tried to help, he should be polite. "....thank you" he added quietly, shifting a bit.

User ImageHe may not have been able to form words in that exact instance, but he could understand them. 'Lost' was pretty self-explanatory, of course. The concept of it made Gideon frown, whereupon he parted his lips thoughtfully - but he stopped all vocalizations before their pass. So it was exactly as he had predicted; or rather, it was one of his predictions. He inspected Sarge over for a second time, taking in any attributes he could deem as noteworthy. First thing was first, the hybrid's expression - which indicated that he was unsure of how much he could truly trust the 'Big Bad Wolf' - understandable, to say the very, very least. Tales from long ago assured anyone of his 'danger'; but said 'danger' was non-existent unless the full moon came into play - which, in this situation, was not the case. Sunlight was working its delicate rays through the barricade of cloud's weaknesses. It was still morning. And coming with night would be a moon not full; so he wouldn't harm Sarge.

Or anyone else, for that matter.

His thought-process stopped when Sarge thanked him, after which Gideon knit his brows together uncertainly. 'Lost', closely followed by 'Thank you'? It didn't make sense. Of course, most things that weren't actual sentences he found particularly incomprehensible. And unfortunately enough for him, Sarge's speech had been jumbled since the first word spoken to Gideon; which was frustrating...

... But it had to be accepted.

The wolf considered their situation over for the briefest moment before turning his attention back onto Sarge: "You're welcome." He acknowledged first, eyes shimmering with a gentleness - after which he continued on to matters of more importance: "But you say that you are lost, then?" He stood still, mind trying desperately to grasp his next words wisely - so that they could perhaps be easy to understand: "If you are lost - it is the indication that you have somewhere that you need to be, or a home that you should return to, yes? And someone may be either looking or waiting for you..." That was assuming that he had a 'someone' to return to, and Gideon assumed he did. "What I'm trying to say is..."

He took a pause and a breath, "Do you have a phone number or any other way to reach someone? Or perhaps an address or any other means to locate your home?"

He sat quietly, watching Gideon as he looked at him, in thought. His frown grew as he knit his brows, unsure of what caused the action. He straitened up as the other male spoke, listening carefully. At the first question, he nodded. "Lost" he repeated. He tilted his head again though. "No home...but..." he stopped, biting his lip and thinking how to phrase the next part of sentence. He didn't have a real home, only a general area that contained a few places he could sleep and people who knew him. "No home...but...uh...territory" he said, nodding vigorously.

The more primal area of his brain told him territory was a good word to use. It was, in a way. The neighborhood he had wondered into now, was one he had not been familiar with and he knew would not be nearly as hospitable. He knew his way around his own neighborhood, unfortunately he didn't know how to get back to it from outside areas.

"Romulas....might look, after a few...weeks...I think, when I don't come see him" Sarge added quickly, hoping "weeks” was the right amount of time. In this case it was. At the males second question he furrowed his brow. He'd heard the words "phone number" and "address". In fact, it had been pressed upon him that he should learn their meaning. To bad, that no one had ever found the time to tell him what they were. "No..." he said finally, shrugging. "I tried to find my territory...by smell...didn't work" he added, blushing gently. Finding things by smell or sound were generally easy. In this case, though, he supposed he was just too far away, or just inadequate when it came to using his senses.

He had relaxed a bit by now, ears perking up and tail making a few movements. He had grown more comfortable with Gideon’s presence. He was pleasant company, if not a bit confusing. Sarge knew though, that other living things generally were almost always confusing.
