This is Nikki, she's a young female Akita. I had been thinking Akitas for a while and was about to go to a breeder, when I happened to be at the shelter and stumbled upon this darling girl. Through her, I became involved in A Passion For Paws, an Akita rescue based around my general area. I adopted her hoping for a companion, but what I got was much more. The two of us, along with my boyfriend, help dogs every day and it's the most fulfilling thing I've ever done. There are some days I wish it was just us three, like when we pulled Kiko out of the shelter to get him eye surgery and adopt him out only to have him put down, but everything we do now is for the dogs.
I know some of you have favorite breeds and like them papered, but please consider adoption whenever you need a new forever friend.
