What was your favorite book as a child? Why?

I would have to say the Tolkien books. I even have an old 1st grade book report on _Lord of the Rings_ to prove it. I liked the world and the characters mostly.

Wide Awake in Dreamland - John Duel

My mother bought it for me and it was the first chapter book (where the chapters were more than one or two pages) that I read willingly which then inspired me to read more.
