I bought the game used and it has no little instruction book....and I have NO idea what I'm doing. Is it even a good game?

Meh... It's okay. I don't really like it but it's all based on opinion.
I say, just look up a faq for it on Gamefaqs and that will help you through it better than an instruction booklet would! whee
I never beat it, I'm stuck at that stupid Misty Bloom cave and can't beat the monster there so I gave up and haven't played it for months.
But, I hope you enjoy it.

I liked it. It was fun making weapons and having monsters instead of farm animals. It's true that you can find a lot of good walkthroughs online for it too. My favorite part is that I can make money by selling weapons I've made instead of just farming [but I still farm. I mean what's harvest moon without farming? it's unhear of!!!]

Personally I think it is a fantastic game, and if you can get your hands on it, I suggest buying the gorgeous and helpful guide book (which I own :3). It can take a while to get a good handle on all the changes from other harvest moon games, but once you've got the hang of it, it's really fun.
I made most of my money by growing high level strawberries in the first cave. Strawberries are very lucrative crops!

You made it past the first cave?! I die as soon as I get to my first monster! I'm too much of a dumb wimp for Rune Factory. sweatdrop

I've beaten it a few times. Now I'm just waiting for Lynette to like me enough to marry me. I've married Melody and Sharron already. Look for any game guide by freyashawk, she's awesome she makes the best guides.
