So I know there's a "what are you reading" thread, but what about a thread JUST about vampire stories? What vampire stuff are you reading OTHER than the Twilight Series? Anyone here a fan of Vampire Academy or Vampire Kisses?? 3nodding

I haven't really read any vampire books...it sounds odd, but it's true. Not a one, actually. Before Twilight, I was absolutely scared to death of vampires. In fact, I read twilight because my friend dared me to! So...what would you recommend? I know I totally reversed what you asked for, but I am curious...xD

Well, hawt vampires are in and scary, hideous vampires are out right now. The Vampire Academy series has a butt-kicking half-vampire who has to dedicate her whole life to protecting her frail full-blooded vampire best friend. She falls for her steamy older teacher, but love is forbidden between them. (That's a pretty smexy premise for a story, if you ask me!) The Blue Bloods series is kind of like Gossip Girl with ancient vampire families living it up rich in a big city. There's also a bunch of flashbacks to their previous lives (these kind of vampires are reborn in new bodies, but with old memories). There's a mysterious murderer killing of vampire students of an exclusive academy, and they have to figure out what's going on before they all end up (permanently) dead. Golden Vampires is being published as a blog. No one in the blog has said what a "golden vampire" is or what it means because it hasn't been running for very long, so that's still a secret. The story seems a little scary, since a girl is blogging about being stalked (probably by a vampire). But with a cute lead singer for a rock band also being mentioned in the bog, you can bet it's going to get a little more romantic. 3nodding (Personally, I'm thinking a three-way between a hot stalker, a hot singer, and the girl would be pretty awesome.)

I hate the vampire kisses series. Dumbest thing I ever set my eyes on. No offense, I mean, we're all entitled to our own opinion....but I wasn't able to relate to the main character AT ALL.
Okay, Alisox: I know you said you were absolutely scared of vampires. Same here. That was because the first book I read with vampires in it was the most famous vampire book of all time: Dracula. If that doesn't put you off vampires, I don't know what would!
The second time I read Dracula...yeah. Now I hate vampires. Let me tell you, if I was an Edward fan before...it sure cured me pretty darn fast.
Don't get me wrong...everyone should read Dracula. It's really good, and way more interesting than a ton of other classics. The characters are fantastic, and it really can get a person's creative juices flowing. I highly recommend it.
Yes, yes, I know..."hawt vampires are in and scary, hideous vampires are out." But seriously...it's a good book. Worth reading. It lets you know where it all began.

Mmm... I read Wicked Nights by Nina Bangs and that was a vampire romance. A damn good one, too.
I decided to pick up The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. For years I haven't read it and I decided to. But I'm trying to finish up homework and I have other books I want to read, so I'm not far into it yet. xD
There's this one vampire book that I really want to get my hand on. It's by Nina Bangs, of course, and I wasn't able to get it last time I saw it. ;o; Damn BAM for saying that the only book we could purchase after a certain time would only be Breaking Dawn.

Hmm, come to think of it, I really should read Dracula. I've been trying to get in more classics. And when I say trying, I really mean just actually reading what they give you in school and not just cliffnoting it all the way through. I just remembered, I've read parts of Cirque Du Freak. Gotta say, it reeled me in good. Spooky and crap though, I had to leave it at school or I'd scare myself to death at night. Maybe I should finish that someday. Oh, and I don't know if any of you are into this kind of thing, but there's a good manga I like, Chibi Vampire. The anime is Karin, but it's all japanese, so you've not likely seen it. It's very cutesy, the main character is a lot like a vampire in reverse, but her family is not, so there's her dealing with that. You either like it or you don't, but I've been following it, bought the ninth book two days ago. I prefer the anime over the manga, actually. It's availale on crunchyroll.com under the name Karin, last I checked. About 24 eps ish, all subtitled in english. Good story if you have the patience.
