Once again Io was coming through the door, her raven sitting on her shoulder, a crumpled half sheet of paper clenched tightly in her hand. Her blue eyes were filled with unshed tears, a mixture of sadness and anger. He had left her... That b*****d had left her before she could even get revenge for what he had done to her before. Before she could hurt him like he had hurt her in the time before.

But the worst part about it was the fact that she was having a hard time focusing on that revenge. She looked at the paper again, the words blurring through the tears so much that she couldn't read them. But it didn't matter. She knew them by heart.

She crumpled the paper up, wanting to get rid of it, wanting to go back to believing that he was just a door away... and she flung it across the room before stumbling out of Ice's room and heading for her own. She needed to sit in the dark listening to music... and cry.

Silva jerked from where he had been reading his comic, blinking as a wad of paper hit him in the head and bounced off, rolling to the floor. He turned to complain, but the door closed before he even got the chance to speak. With a shrug he looked at the paper, then went to work uncrumbling it, having to brace himself on his feet and hands just to get it flattened. Finally he sat back and read her letter, not caring in the least that it wasn't his to read.

Cern

Io,

I don't know when (or if) you'll get this. Everdark has decided to go into some sort of hermitage, and is taking me with her. She says it's a family thing, and the only way she'll be allowed on her homeworld again, ever. Since she had to flee there for our world, life imperiled by her gambling and big mouth, I don't understand why she would want to go back. In any case, she asked me to go. I guess she wants me to see what it was like for her there. Or something.

Please don't hold this against me, Io. I know if I was determined, I could find a way to stay here. But it seems so important to her. I will try to hurry back, hopefully with a much saner mother in tow. Think of me?

He sat there for a few minutes, pondering what this meant, then smirking slightly. It seemed the masque had a weakness, after all. It would figure she was a sucker for a guy.

Now... how to exploit it... He had revenge to get, after all.

Nobody laughed at his name and got away with it.

Quote:
I know I haven't written for a while... and my story kinda keeled over in the middle... I promise I'll finish it. I hope I will, at least. But things have been a little... a little crazy lately.

First I left Masquerade, trying to get away from the waiting. I'm not sure what happens next, but the waiting is killing me. And... and there are other reasons. Reasons I don't really feel like talking about. But I can go back to Masquerade at any time... like a safety net, I suppose you could say. It doesn't feel as if I really left at all...

But I did. And things happen while I'm not there. Cern and his guardian left. And-and--

*The book closes without the thought being finished*

Okay... so the Ruya gift hadn't worked out the way he wanted to. He could deal with that. But what he COULDN'T deal with was the damn angelic dragon that he had kept.

Silva was sitting on the bed, a dark look on his face as the small dragon in question chewed happily on his short ponytail. He twitched, reaching over his shoulder to save his hair and getting bit as his reward. He looked at his hand, grateful the little s**t hadn't broken the flesh. But that was the only thing he was grateful about.

"C'mon, Io! You have to come out of your room sometime or another!" The sound of his bondmate slamming her fist against the door to the next room made him wince.

Go AWAY! The mindspeak shouted, roaring through Silva's head as well as Ice's. I need some alone time!

"FINE! Then STARVE!" Ice shoted back, making Silva snort.

FINE! I WILL!

"Why in the heck did I say I would take in a teenager? I am SO going to call up the Masquerade Ice and cuss her out. She should know better than to force me to deal with one!" He waited until his bondmate had left to start thinking. Sometimes he swore she could read his mind.

So... He started out thoughtfully... Io was still depressed over her boyfriend running away like a coward...

He winced as the dragon behind him jerked back on the ponytail, then let out a complaint. The damn thing thought it was trying to milk or something... He blinked, then jerked as the tiny dragon let out a flame directed at his back.

"Ahh!! Dammit, DON'T DO THA--" He stopped, things falling into place in his mind, leaving him with an evil grin that would have done the grench proud.
************************

The sound of knocking on the door had Io clenching her teeth as she shoved herself to her feet, heading for the door to do some more yelling. She even had the first words forming in her head as she opened the door.

There was no one there. She blinked, looking down to see if there was a miniature bag of burning dog crap compliments of the little d**k from next door... but there wasn't anything there, either. Almost reluctantly she closed the door, turning to head for her bed again.

"Bad mood?" Silva asked from where he was standing on her bed, almost laughing as her rage built up again. "I'm surprised. You seemed so damn cheerful while you were torturing me with that... thing." He nodded at the cage in the corner, smirking slightly.

What do you want, you little d**k?

"Oooh... language, darlin! What if mother heard?" He asked tauntingly.

THIS Ice is NOT my mother. Now get out of my room before I roll up a newspaper.

"I will. But I have something to give to you first." He replied calmly.

She watched him for a few seconds before her curiosity got the best of her. What?

"Just this." He turned, digging in the blankets and pulling out a complaining white dragon.

She blinked, shocked that what he wanted to give her was actually... cute. Why are you giving this to me? Ice said you had a girlfriend. Why don't you give it to her?

"Are you gonna take the damn thing or not?" He replied irritably. "And hurry it up, would you? I've got better things to do with my time."

... What did it do? She finally asked, smirking knowledgeably.

"It keeps chewing on my hair." He muttered, flushing as she started laughing at him. "It's not funny! I happen to be fond of my haircut. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to leave now." He jumped off the bed, heading for the door with a stubborn set to his jaw. She silently held the door open, watching him leave.

Thank you... She said before closing the door to go play with her new gift.

"You won't be saying that after it burns your fingers a few times." He replied, looking remarkably happy to be free of the demonic little angel.

Io
Now, this might be hard to understand. Trust me, I've been asking myself why ever since it happened. But that little d**k fairy of Ice's gave me a present. And not only did he give me a present... it was a cute present. It's shocking.

Actually it's flaming, but I'm avoiding the issue. Silva... and you have no idea how hard it is for me to think of him by that name, Silva brought me a little white dragon with a tiny scarf. Her name is Blanco, because she's all white. And she likes to catch things on fire. I learned that the hard way.

So the first thing I did was get a fishbowl. I set up a gravel floor, bought one of those mini caves built for aquariums and a few plastic trees. She melted one, but at least they don't light up. But after a while I thought she was getting bored in her little bowl so I decided I'd make her a hobby.

Dragons like to ransack villages, right? Well, they did in all the old stories I read when I was a kid. It was pretty cool, they'd fly in catching things on fire, then kidnap the princess and fly away. Of course, then the princess would be rescued by some knight on a white charger and things would get boring... but the dragon part was cool!

So I, being the considerate owner that I am, started making miniature villages for my baby to ravish! It's an entertaining way to pass the time for now. And it makes her happy, which is always good.

I'm starting to think I've got a little too much time on my hands... Maybe I should go back to writing my story! I just don't know what should happen next...

Hmm... maybe I should write this Silva in. It couldn't hurt, and then I wouldn't feel guilty for torturing him like I've been dreaming about. It would just be in the story, after all. I wonder if I should put both versions of Silva in... I wonder if they would hate each other...

Silva... was, strangely enough, taking a nap. He hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, thinking about... well... things, and he was curled up on the windowsill enjoying the dark rainy day outside. Ice was playing on the computer, working on one of her stories, another AU about that damn comic of hers.

Needless to say, they were'nt expecting the knock on the door. On the closet door, that is. Ice blinked, not sure if she should open it in front of Silva or not, then shrugged as she realized he was still sleeping. She stood, heading for the door and unlocking it, only to have it opened for her by an irritated looking... well... her.

"I need Io back, luv. I know she's only been here for a day or so--"

"Two months."

"Huh? Oh, guess time works differently here." M. Ice paused, relaxing slightly. "Well that means she's had a good rest. Where is she?"

"In her room, actually. She's been playing her guitar for the past couple of days. Do you know how much of a pain it is getting her tutor to come here? He HATES Earth, you know!"

"Yeah, yeah... that way, right?"

"Yeah." Ice sat back, watching the other female head out the door and down the hall. She moved to close and lock it, only to blink as yet another Ice popped her head through. This one was different, wearing a large trenchcoat and a slight smile. She was carrying a little girl with big green eyes and green hair.

"I'm ho-ome!!" The Tarot Ice said, snickering as the little girl mimicked her.

"I'm hoo-oome!!" Jade said happily, looking completely comfortable with two mothers in one place. "Where's da peanutbutter?"

"In the kitchen." T. Ice said, letting the little girl down. Jade went running, leaving Ice staring at her counterpart.

"No."

"Just for a little while? She'll be good! I promise!" T. Ice pleaded. "She likes cartoons, but keep her away from the violent ones, she has nightmares. And she has the bad habit of speaking to strangers, so keep an eye on--"

"I said No, Ice!!" Ice almost wailed. She blinked as someone tugged on her hand and looked down at the girl in question. "What's up, shortstuff?"

"I gotta go potttty!!" Jade mumbled, doing a little dance. T. Ice took advantage, stepping back through the door and waving.

"Be good for Mommy, Jade!" T. Ice called, disappearing before Ice could complain again. She groaned, picking up the little girl and heading for the bathroom. She passed M. Ice in the hall, not surprised that the other woman was locked out of her daughter's room.

"Would you be reasonable, Io? I need you there! All of the masques seem to be showing up right about now. They're KIDS! They can't protect--"

No!

"But... He's back. Silva's back, luv, and he could have killed Ashy the other night."

The door opened slowly, making Ice jerk as she realized Jade was doing her potty dance even faster then earlier. She sighed, taking the little girl into the bathroom and leaving the door opened so she could hear.

Is... is she...

"Just unconscious. But she's been around longer, luv... Who knows what he would do to one of the new masques? Look, I know you don't want to deal with some things, but you're going to have to. The safety of my-OUR colony means more then your emotional problems."

Ice winced at that... Masquerade Ice always was a little more... callous then the others. She sighed as she heard Io speak.

I... you're right. I've been acting like a child. But--

"No, look, I understand. How do you think I felt after I calmed down last time? Loki did the right thing by rifting Silva and the others... but I can't go back and change what I did. All I can do is keep everyone safe NOW. And I need your help to do it. So get your things and c'mon."

Io nodded, heading back into her room to pack. "All done!" Jade called, standing and pulling up her shorts.

"Good job!" Ice replied, pasting on a grin. It seemed that Masquerade was a hard place to live... It was surprising that Io was... well... she stopped that thought, shrugging it off. Maybe the girl had just needed some time alone.

"Um... Ice?" She asked, something occuring to her. "Did anybody shut the rift door?"

"Not me. I thought you did."

"... s**t." She muttered, picking up Jade and racing into the room.

"s**t!" Jade repeated happily, making Ice groan. Then she really felt like cussing. The door was still open... and Silva was nowhere to be seen. "s**t! Shitshitshit!!" Jade sang happily.

"You said it, sister." Ice muttered, rubbing her temple wearily.

Io
I'm back on Masquerade. After chasing down that damn fairy that Ice seemed so fond of, I returned to my post as guard. Then I found out that one of the sisters had gotten herself lost. RIGHT after the other one got herself knocked out by Silva. I swear, between the two of them I'm starting to doubt they can make up one brain.

No... it's just they're not used to being as... weak as they are now. Heck, I can understand that. I just wish they would remember that they were when it was important. Silva could have killed Ashy... and I can't... I WON'T lose any more of my people.

So many deaths... Did you know Ice found a handful of broken masks in the Rade chambers? Lives that will never be finished because of some stupid--

Cern's still gone. I'm stuck here playing babysitter to some of the very people that taught me to fight. And Light and Fire have awoken.

I want...

No. Not yet. Not until they remember. Besides, I'm not sure that what I had once believed was exactly what had happened. There's a new life somewhere near, and the power is... familiar. Dangerous. And grown. That's the scariest part. A child I can take on with no difficulty. An adult masque...

But on a different note, Galilee is back. He's the one that taught me to fight as a child. He practically raised me when Father was busy with political affairs. Funny thing is, I'm almost positive that he has a... well... a bit of a crush on me. That's just... so strange. Have I ever told you that I had a bit of a crush on him when I was just a kid? He seemed so big and tough when I was little. But he was way too old for me back then.

And to think... now he's the kid.

The rustle of grass made Io look down idly, expecting to see a snake. Her hand clamped around her dagger loosely, ready to kill the snake before it got too close. She stood, bracing herself, only to blink as a small creature limped into sight.

What the... She scowled, smelling a faint trace of blood in the air. The creature was smaller then Ice's feien had been, standing roughly two and a half inches tall. He looked up, piercing gold eyes staring at her as he let out a snarl. I'm not going to fight y-- The tiger patterned little male launched himself at her, only to be grabed mid-pounce. He clawed at her hand, his small claws surprisingly sharp. She cursed as she realized she was bleeding.

She scowled, tapping the tiger like boy in the head. He stopped scratching, hiding a wince of pain. There's no choice, you're now mine. She said, tapping into his mind mentally and earning a shocked look. I would have let you go if you would have calmed down.

"Damn you..." He growled, digging his claws into her hand and forcing her to let him go. "I belong to no one." He fell to the ground, his entire body silently crying out in pain.

You do now. She replied, sitting down and examining her wound. Why do I always run into mean little shits? I swear... She dug in her pocket, pulling out some first aid supplies. And you're hurt, so I don't suggest you go anywhere.

"I won that fight." He replied, not bothering to deny his pain.

That wasn't a fight.

"Not with you. With--" He stopped, going silent. "Give me my freedom." He demanded arrogantly. "And I'll do your bidding for one week."

I keep your freedom and you do my bidding for the rest of your life. She replied, picking him up gingerly and examining him. What are you, a tiger kid?

"I am Pong." He muttered, scowling as she delicately prodded his wound. But he didn't attack, not really feeling like being dropped again. His eyes widened as she started treating his wounds, then closed as his exhaustion kicked in. "I would have won... damn those dragons."

He curled up on her hand, falling into a troubled sleep even as she finished treating his wounds. Even as she plucked a few of her feathers, creating a small bed, he slept on, dreaming of dragons that attacked in groups. And an arrogant fox with a laugh that made his fur stand on end.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 10, 2004 7:57 am

When Pong woke up he was taken off guard by the sight of Io's head on the pillow next to him. She was sound asleep, with tears falling slowly from her closed eyes. He stood, making a face as he felt his body protest. It had been a hard battle. One that could have killed him. It would still be easy to kill him...

He walked over to her, wondering what made her cry when she slept. It had to be something she didn't admit to during the time she was awake. He snorted, walking closer to her large slumbering figure. He reached up, grabbing her shirt and climbing her like a mountain.

He started walking up the curve of her hip, heading for her pockets to see what she had. His stomach was complaining, but what he really hoped to find was some sort of weapon. Something to force her to let him go with.

He didn't even notice the hand reaching for him until it was too late. The husky sound of laughter filled his head as he was lifted into the air to face her. And what were you looking for this time? She asked, absently wiping away the tears.

"..." He said nothing, merely crossed his arms over his chest, his tail twitching in irritation.

I bet you're hungry. I know I am. She stood, cupping him in her hand casually and heading to the door of her room and down the hall. The kitchen is this way... Maybe we should check your bandages while we're at it.

"Why the hell do you care?" He asked, glaring at her.

Because you're mine. I'm not going to let what's mine get hurt... not again. She sighed, opening the fridge and digging through the supplies. Here we go... mini weiners. Now to find the barbeque sauce....

He thought about running, honestly he did, but the thought of food was enough to make him stay where he was. And when she pulled out the mini hotdog like things he was glad he had. They were almost as big as he was! And his tiger sized appetite had him drooling slightly as she put them in the microwave.

After they had started eating she turned to him. So when are you going to tell me?

"..."

Yeah... I kind of figured. She dropped the subject that easily, making him wonder if she had been defeated before as well. Was she a fighter? A warrior like him? But if she was... then why was she coddling him? He scowled, focusing on eating as he tried to figure his new "owner" out.

When you were in the woods... did you see a white haired male with a red leather trench coat? The question made him jerk, thinking hard.

"Once."

Where?

"I'd rather not talk about it."

Tell me about yourself... Io said a while later, watching as he bit into his third weiner. She was positive that he had eaten more then he weighed. Why are you on Masquerade? You don't look tough enough--

"Don't tell me what I look tough enough for." He growled, wiping his chin off with his arm. "I was born here, I'll die here. Easy as that."

Then who did this to you? She asked, touching his tail and making him wince. It was still recovering from the fire. It looks like-- She stopped, her eyes going wide as she shoved herself to her feet and raced to her room. For a second he stared after her in confusion, then shrugged, going back to his food only to choke as he saw the small dragon she came back with.

"Sh-s**t!" He almost whimpered, backing up too quickly and hitting his tail. "Keep it away..."

Shhhh, this is Blanco. She's mine.

"That's one of the things that--"

Yeah, I figured. She sighed, sitting down and placing the dragon on the table. Then she tapped the table lightly with a finger and the dragon sat, looking at her expectantly. It was large enough for Pong to ride, having grown since Silva got it. There was something about Masquerade that led to quick growth for wild animals, after all.

"..."

She won't hurt you. Io went on, running a finger over the dragon's head. She didn't like Silva, but she might like you. Since you belong to me, that is.

He scowled, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the dragon. "I'm not scared."

Good. Then you can take over caring for her. Io said, tapping the table again. The dragon stood, trotting over to Pong and sitting in front of him. Blanco, this is Pong. He's your new master.

"B-but--" Pong groaned as the dragon jumped on him, making him fall to the ground. The feel of a tongue running over his cheek had him wide-eyed and shocked.

Now treat her good, okay? She's special.

Pong groaned, shoving at the dragon futilely and trying to avoid the sloppy kisses. "How do you call this thing special?"

She's an angel dragon. That means she's stronger then the normal ones. Isn't that right, Blanco?

The roar of the dragon filled the air.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 06, 2004 8:08 am

Io slept for a while, feeling the strength returning. She felt like a weakling, almost taken out by a human... but there was something bothering her about that. Silva didn't seem human. He used telepathy, and his speed...

She rolled over, blearily looking at her table for a second before she noticed a small, purplish blur. With a groan she reached up, wiping the sleep out of her eyes and staring at the small faerie Fauve had given her.

"Um... hello?" The little fairy said, looking cautious. "I was told that I'm now... yours."

That's... nice. Io muttered, shoving herself up slowly. She looked around, then leaned over the side of the bed, smirking at the sight of Pong sleeping comfortably with his head on Blanco's belly. The small dragon was snoring. Pong... are you okay?

The tiger boy jerked awake, glaring at her for a second as he got his bearings. "You almost got us killed."

Well, yeah... but I didn't, did I?

He grunted, nudging the dragon awake and heading for the rope ladder she had hung for him. "Why'd you wake me up?"

Can't I be worried?

"Not likely." He muttered, pulling himself onto the bed and looking her over for a second. "Your throat's bruised. And--" He stopped, his eyes catching on the small fairy that had crept closer to Io in curiosity. "Who's that?"

Says she's mine. Io grumbled, remembering the little fairy again. You want her?

"Wh--what?!" The faerie asked, going wide-eyed. She had expected to be a pretty female's little pet! Pampered! Kept on a plush pillow and--

"Sure." Pong said, a wicked grin on his face as he made ready to pounce.

"Mistress! You can't possibly--" The faerie fluttered towards Io, only to get tackled by the tiger boy. He was a little bit shorter then her, but stronger then she could imagine. "Let me go! Let me go!"

Pong blinked, cocking his head slightly and looking over at Io, then back at the faerie. Reluctantly he let her go, sitting and looking at her expectantly.

Ask her what her name is, Pong. Io said, pulling herself up so she could watch the little drama. Pong obviously didn't have much experience with females.

"What's your name?" He asked, looking impatient.

"T-Tink."

"There, now can I jump her?"

Find out what she likes, Pong.

"Whaddaya like?"

"I--I don't understand what's happening. Mistress, why are you giving me away? And why to this--this ANIMAL?!"

Pong winced. Then crossed his arms over his chest, looking away. "I don't want her anymore." He muttered, heading back for his dragon. Io frowned.

"..." Tink looked at Pong, then at Io, feeling confused. "So do I not have an owner now?" She stopped, looking worried. "Am I--Am I homeless now?"

I gave you to Pong, it's up to you to make him want to keep you. He's mine, after all. I take care of what's mine, just like Pong takes care of what's his. Isn't that right, Pong?

"... Dammit."

Pong cursed as Io ran out of the room for apparently no reason."She's going to get herself killed one of these days." He muttered, more pissed about being left behind then he cared to admit. With a shrug he headed for the edge of the bed, intent on saddling up Blanco and--

"Um... Master?"

The voice made him turn, remembering the faerie with a scowl. "What?"

Tink bit back an angry comment. He was rude! And wild! And definitely not one of the classy faerie boys that she had planned on dating. And were those... claws? She blinked when he snorted, turning back to the ladder. "Wait!"

"What for?"

"I--I think... I mean... don't you think we should get to know each other?" She asked, feeling desperate. This was a wild planet! She didn't want to be tossed out to the animals in the forest! And if that included putting up with--

"Nope." Pong said, trying not to laugh as she glared at his reply. He grabbed the ladded, swinging over the side of the bed, only to have his hand grabbed.

"I don't--I don't want to be tossed out. Please, Master--"

"Pong."

"Wh-what?"

"My name. It's Pong. Now let go, it's going to be a b***h catching up with Io as it is."

"What? You can't go!"

"Why not?"

"Because--Because... I'm hungry!" She said, giving her best wide-eyed look. "I don't know where anything is in this place! An-and I'm not sure what other pets might be around here. I don't like cats--er... normal sized cats that aren't half males and--"

"Shuddup before you hurt yourself." Pong muttered, still not very happy, but better. He liked being a provider for once, even if it was to an uppity faerie.

She sniffled, her eyes filling with tears. "Bu-but--"

"C'mon. I'll show you the kitchen." He muttered, sliding down the ladder and heading for the door. "And introduce you to Plink."

"Pl-plink?"

"He's a cat. We have a few others around as well." He blinked as she almost rammed him from behind, grabbing onto his arm and hugging it as she looked around wearily. "You do realize I'm part tiger, don't you?"

"EEP!"

Pong started to laugh.

Quote:
Io headed into the woods, her eyes on the ground, focusing on what looked like footsteps. They were faint, and the grass and vines covering the ground were rapidly recovering. But she was determined to find him. She wanted to know more about the man that clamed to be her aunt's masque.

She took another step, blinking and cursing silently as she realized the trail had gone cold. She looked up, then around, scowling as she realized something.

Io was lost.

Seishuko watched Io from his place in the bushes. Why was it that everyone seemed to get lost in his woods...? Oh well, he couldn't blame them. He had gotten lost several times before, till he finally relearned his way around the place.
He gave a sigh and moved silently more out in the open, sitting on a fallen log, watching and waiting for her to see him.

Io cursed herself, if she hadn't seen him in this time, then he probably wasn't about to come out and say "Hi!" She snickered at the very thought, turning to look and see if anything appeared familiar. Only to blink as she caught sight of Sei sitting on the log.

'I wanted to talk to you.' She said, squaring her jaw. She wouldn't be afraid of him. He was just another masque. Just like her... Just like Lyra. The thought made her hesitate.

He blinked at her. Talking wasn't really his best aspect.... but people seemed to need it. He guessed she needed an explination... he should have know he couldn't have kept his presence a secert forever...

'Come,' Sei spoke ever so softly to Io as he stood up and started to walk deeper into the woods, heading towards his home.

She watched him for a second, then quickly followed, unable to help herself. She usually liked being alone, but in this case something told her she wouldn't have been alone for long. This was Rade territory. She almost stumbled over a rock one time, but kept going, determined she would find out what she wanted to know.

Who was he? Why was he way out here? And if he was TB's masque... did she know?

After some time they came to a small shack of a house. It looked weather with time, though some spots were repaired, and there were vines growing over it. The windows were a little dirty, but whole and there were verious object that he used for working hanging on the pourch. The house faced a small gardan that had started to grow and near there was a well, it's bucket waiting on the side to be used, as well as a smaller shack with wood chopped and pilled up beside it.

Sei lead the girl to his house, slowing his steps so that she could look around, if she wanted too. Once to the door he opened it, stepping in and started to take off his cloak, leaning his staff against the cluttered table that had a tin box half open in the center.

The inside of his house looked worse than the outside. There were more objects cluttered around or hanging on the wall, most of them were tools but some things were furr from animals that he would later used to make something or other.

He gustered to a chair that was at the table, offering her a seat as he went to get a kettle. He wasn't good haveing a guest over.... and he had not had someone come in a very very long time. Making a hot drink was the only thing he could think of doing.

Io sat down, looking around, then watching him as he worked. 'You left pretty fast back there... Didn't you want to see if Aunt Trinity was all right?' She asked, 'Or do you just not care?'

She stopped, wondering if that was the case with some of the other masques. 'They aren't our real parents, after all... In fact, my father--' She stopped, not sure why she was about to tell him something that personal.

Sei paused a moment after hanging the kettle over the fire and looked at her. No, he wasn't worried about his chosen, it was just a bump on the head and she would be fine.

But as for why he didn't want to be there, Sei looked Io in the eyes once more. The image of all those at the camp being around him, and him finding a way to be away from them. Then came the image of him, breathing a sigh of releif once far away from the others.

He left alone the last thing she said. If she wanted to say more on it, should would.

'Yeah... I have that problem sometimes, too.' Io said, relaxing. His explanation worked, she guessed. And she was just so tired of fighting. He hadn't once made an agressive motion, and if he had, she was sure it would have been before putting water to boil...

Somehow she couldn't picture a guy that ran in fright of crowds as being a vicious villain. 'It's not that big a group, you know...' She said half-heartedly. 'Don't you get lonely out here?'

Sei could see her tiredness and just relaxed in his chair, glancing at the kettle now and then. He smiled under the mask, here we go with the lonely issue again, but at least this time is was true concern.

He shrugged and used the image of the young blue Rade that was normally with TB, padding around his home. After another moment he got out of the chair and used a mitt to get the kettle off the hook, setting it on the table. Then went to a shelf on the wall, bringing down two cups that didn't match, checking them to make sure they were clean. Once satisfied, he set them down on the table and reached over to another box, digging into a small pouch, pulling out two more smaller pouches that had a thin fabric on them and a string groming from them. His tea.

Placing one of this small pouches in a cup, he poured in some hot water and gently placed it before Io, making his own before still back and watching her. He gave her the image of her laying down in a bed. His way of asking why she was tired.

Io took the cup, trying to figure out what the image was about. Somehow she didn't think it was sexual. Was he asking-- 'No, I'm fine. I just need some... alone time.' She said, looking down at her drink for a few minutes.

'You... do I know you? I feel like I might, or I should, but...'

Sei watched her still, Io had her eyes. He gave the image of being out in the woods, near a creek. The image was a calming one, to him atleast.

He gave a nod to her and glanced at the tin box that sat on the table, then picked up his tea, sipping it. It still puzzled him as too how the food or drink got into his mouth when there was a mask in the way. It seemed to only work if he wanted it too, for things like dirt or bugs that flew too close to his mouth didn't get in.

But he had come to accept this, as he did other things.

She was uncomfortable with his silent survey, so she stood, taking her tea with her to look around. 'So I know you, I just don't remember you...' She mused, not really expecting a response. The man was certainly quiet.

'Can you at least tell me your name?' She asked, her eye catching on a tin box. It was pretty, with ornate designs on the cover. She reached out, running a finger over it before turning to look at him again.

Sei thought a moment before sending his name over. 'Seishuko' the female voice rang like a musical tone, one filled with care. His sister's voice, as he remembered it. It had been a while since he had head his own name. Well... almost a while anyway.

He then sent the image of Io looking into the box. Stating that she could, if she wanted too, before he went back to his tea.

The voice that he sent made her jerk, going pale beneath her mask. She KNEW that voice, she just couldn't... couldn't place it. It was just at the edge of her mind, making her shiver slightly, as if on the brink of a great discovery.

Then the image of her looking in the box caught her off guard, making her turn and open the latch. She stopped, her heart stopping for a second at the first picture. It was of a pregnant woman, and in her arms--

'Me...' She whispered, her voice catching in her throat as her heart started pounding. 'HOW do you have this? WHY do you have this? Who are you?' She asked, turning on him, the picture in her hand.

Sei looked up at her. Maybe this was a bad idea.... She might not be ready to know... and if she wasn't, with the mask on, he would be in no condition to help her....

'Clam, shhhhh, look more,' his mental voice soothed. But was she ready to look more.....? He watched her worriedly before he took the box, reaching in and pulling out another picture. This one of a boy and a girl with the same hair out in a middow, the girls arms around the boy's neck. He hoped this explained something. His hair, at least, had not changed that much....

Io looked at the picture blankly for a few minutes before handing it to him silently and turning away. Somehow this man had known her mother when they were children. Either friends, or maybe family. The two looked somewhat similar.

That meant there was a good chance she was related to this strange man. She hugged herself, not really having a high opinion of family at the moment. Her father was a child, who didn't even know who she was. Her sister was a-- Well, she didn't want to think of her sister. And Lyra was somewhere around, already starting to cause chaos from the shadows.

'I... I should leave now.' She said simply, taking a step for the door.

Sei blinked at her. Well, that was a better reaction than he had hoped. He watched as she headed for the door, but he was quiet ready for her to leave yet... It had been a long while since he had been able to visit with her.

'Stay,' He asked quietly. 'Talk with me, rest.' He gave her the image of her tea that was still warm. Hopeing she would stay at least as long as a cup of tea. Io looked like she needed some time away from everyone.

That everyone would include him, he knew..... but he didn't care.

'If you're going to give me some long lost family bullshit, don't bother. I've done alright on my own.' She said harshly, still not looking at him. 'And I don't feel much like talking to anyone at the moment. Especially not another masque.' She turned, looking at him then.

'So far all I've seen are oblivious idiots that don't even think about the fact they're still stuck in these damn masks. And you, where were you when we were being attacked? Maybe not for the curse, but lately. I was almost killed the other day. Where were you?'

She stopped, cursing herself for even asking. 'Never mind. I don't want to know.' She turned and headed for the door.

Sei strightened as he stood, thinking carefully about what he should do next. Carefully he sent the images in a flash, one slow enough so that she could comprehind what she saw.

First were images of TB digging, images from when he was in a mask state, them to him hiding from, following her to the camp. then images of the woods, his old house, him rebuidling his old house, mixed in with images of the other's at the camp, and Io as she walked alone. More images of him watching after Trin as she walked through the woods, narrowly advoiding Rade.

Then came the image of the fight she last had with Silva.
'Watched. If..... I felt you could not... handle your self... against him.... would have.. stepped in sooner.' The image shifted, as if the view was about to move forward, only to stop and look as more came. 'Others came then.'

The the female voice, the memory voice, came, '"You know... I can't always be here too look out for you. You're going to have to learn how to protect yourself! But don't worry, when things get really bad for you... I'll come and bail you out, like normal!"' the voice happily as it faded out, though it was obviously going to continue.

Sei reached over for his cloak, starting to put it on. If she was ready to go, then he might as well lead her out safely.

Io stopped, listening to his words, then shrugging. She didn't know if he could have done anything, even if he had been there. She shouldn't care, really. It had happened before, it would probably happen again. This planet wasn't safe. If she couldn't take care of herself then she was out of luck.

She didn't say anything as he grabbed his cape, knowing that she wouldn't be able to find her way home. She merely waited for him to lead the way, not really wanting to go back to the camp, but not wanting to stay. She was confused, and she needed some alone time. To think.

Sei took his walking stick as he headed out the door, waiting for her to step out. Once she did, he closed the door behind him and started to walk in the direction of camp. He kept his pace slow and was purposely taking the long way to camp. He also kept the sounds they made silent, so any passing Rade would not hear them. Rades were, after all, attracted first to sound, then smell.

As they walked, he kept quiet, occasionally glancing at the girl beofre looking back forawrd. She was starting to turn out like her aunt, in many many was. He frowned at that thought. One Lyra was enough as it was.

'I... I'm sorry.' She said quietly, watching the ground. 'I've been having a difficult time lately. But I shouldn't take it out on you. I just... I just don't know who to trust right now. My father doesn't remember me, my sister betrayed me, and my aunt... I don't know what to think of my aunt sometimes.'

She sighed slightly, stopping as she realized they were in territory she knew. 'The only one I trust is my guardian, and she's never home. She's always off trying to save the world, or one of those jester sisters, or fighting or being kidnapped, or--' She stopped, shrugging. 'Being Ice.'

He paused when she stopped, listening to what she had to say. Normally he wouldn't do this. Normally he wouldn't bother taking someone the long way, to let them think then get off of their chest what was bothering them. There were only a small few he would do that with.

Io happened to be one fo them.

Sei gave a nod of understanding before reaching out and nudging her chin up, gently. 'I remember much,' He said to her before bringing his hand away. 'Not fully alone.'

She nodded, looking away from him, her hands shoving into her pockets. 'It gets worse.' She went on, almost dryly. 'I remember some things, but no one else does in the group. I'm so sick of not being able to ask them why they aren't who they used to be. And even if I did they would just look at me like I was crazy...'

Then she blinked, looking at him, unconscious hope in her eyes. 'Come back with me, Seishuko. I need someone around that remembers. That I... that I can talk to.'

Sei could understand why they were not the same as they used to be. They weren't raised the same, after all. He, Lyra and from what it sounded like, Io, all pretty much raised themselves. Io was a little different from what he could remember of her.

His thoughts were suddenly cut off when Io had asked him to come back with her. He simply stared at her, taking a small set back, almost as if he was about to run away. Go back? Where there are others?! Hell no!! Nothing in this world-
Again his thoughts stopped as he saw the hope in her eyes, and he cracked, his shoulders slumping a bit. Io had once more been one of the few he'd do things for. Fate either suddenly decided to stop favoring him or fate had cought up with him. Either way, he was doomed.

Gave her another look, forcing more words to form, 'I have to.. stay long...?' He asked, worriedly. If she wanted to talk to him, she could always enter the woods and call out for him.

'You have to at least talk to Aunt TB. She needs to know she's your guardian, even if it's kind of late in the game.' Io replied, feeling reluctant to push him too far. Who knew better how claustraphobic the camp got then her?

'Then you can leave.' She finished. Sure, she would love to have him around, but he was free... far more free then she was. And she wouldn't take that away from him.

Seishuko nodded. That was about the best he was going to get... and he didn't feel like abandoning her, after all. As long as he was allowed to leave when he wished, he would be fine. Or so he told himself.

He gave a visible sigh and started walking again, his feet dragging a little more. Well, the sooner he got this over with, the better. He wondered how his chosen would react to him.
