spuntino My guess is a combination of things, really. First of all, it makes it easier and more fun for themselves; they only have to produce what they want to produce. Secondly, they want to be taken seriously as designers, so they're experimenting more and releasing things that they normally wouldn't. Garments with pintucks and extra frills are harder to make and experimentation is a difficult thing to do if you make it open to all-comers. Thus, instead of giving everyone the option of buying X-skirt and Y-blouse, they're creating a limited supply of unique items for people at different sizes to better vary their designs and the "novelty" factor of things.
Thank you, spuntino! That makes sense, definitely. It's nice how their using more pintucks now, even though I only noticed it on one dress...but it's still an improvement!
