I think it's ridiculous that that law still applies to you. You're old enough to enlist in the army and die for your country, but they still won't let you have booze?

Alchohol age limit laws are stupid in my opinion. That doesn't mean I agree that it's okay for kids to get drunk, but I believe it's their parents' responsibility to keep them in check, not some centralized legal authority. If their parents are ok with it, then why the hell can't they have a glass of wine? All it does is by making stupid laws is encourage them into hiding it and only doing it in dangerous unsupervised situations.

Which I found out some do, however the concern mother of the country managed to convince the federal government to step in. Thus in order to get federal funding for roads and other road related projects, the states must make the age limit for drinking 18 years old. At least that is what my friend says. I should probably ask my dad, since he was in politics.

When I say central authority in this case, I actually mean any higher echelon of government above a parent's authority to decide how to raise his/her children. It could mean municipal, county, state or federal authority... none of those entities have any business telling people what their kids can eat or drink lol.

It could mean municipal, county, state or federal authority... none of those entities have any business telling people what their kids can eat or drink lol. Ah, but M.A.D.D (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) says that the federal government does have a right to say what a kid/minor/minor adult can drink. They are the ones who pushed the hardest for federal law makers to create a law on how old someone can drink and drive. The federal government, not want to fully impose on it, but still appear like they're trying to help, created an attachment law for the road funding for each state saying that if the state wanted funding for any road projects they have to implement the 21 and older drinking rule. I went and looked it up after I left Gaia. Along with talking with my lawyer friend, who says that technically each state has they're own drinking limit...however uber Christian groups, M.A.D.D, and other groups like them are pushing harder then organization that want to go back to the different state drinking limits. In the end, the federal government is doing what it almost always does...wait for the people to come together and figure it out before they make any changes. Not that I like not being able to drink, while being able to be drafted or join the army. However, I think its important to understand that the government doesn't step in (most of the time, sometimes its uber stupid and does step in) unless the people's voice declare they want the government too. Sadly, M.A.D.D's voice outweighs our voices on the matter of drinking. That being said, I want to make it clear that I don't agree with the government taking that step. I would love to drink. I've been slowly preparing myself to drink (all due to my weight and stuff). Sadly, I still can't publicly drink, which is really annoying and what makes it worse is that I'm counted as an adult. Yet, I'm not treated as one. M.A.D.D. doesn't understand that drunk driving that can happen at any age...though I guess that is why a group of them are pushing for the return to Prohibition.
