Han Hyo-joo is worried about kissing Jae-joong of Dong-bang-shin-ki

I would be too.

Already, the rabid fans of Dong-bang-shin-ki are at work. On Han Hyo-joo’s Cyworld homepage, they have left notes such as, “Don’t mess up. There can be no NG with the kiss scene- kiss only once.”

Han Hyo-joo revealed to a Japanese magazine that she is deathly worried about kissing Jae-joong but added there is nothing she can do about it since the scene is only “acting”.

Even so, who knows how crazy Jaejoong’s fans will turn once they see the kissing scene. We hope it’s a passionate one.

The upcoming joint production between Korean and Japan, “Heaven’s Postman” (“천국의 우편 배달부), is set to air in May 2009 on SBS.

Lee Eon dies in accident

User Image

Oh, man.

Model-turned-actor Lee Eon (also spelled Lee Un, most famously of Coffee Prince) has died in a motorcycle accident.

The 27-year-old, born Park Sang-min, was on his way home following the wrap party for KBS’s Strongest Chil Woo early on the morning of August 21. He was riding a motorcycle and ran into the guardrail of the overpass, and is said to have died almost immediately.

The news has shocked everyone; online, netizens are abuzz in disbelief. Just the night before, he had been onscreen in Chil Woo’s finale episode, and the sudden news is, to say the least, startling.

Lee Eon got his start modeling, but shot to mainstream levels of fame when he took on the role of simple-hearted but lovable Min Yub in last year’s Coffee Prince. He followed that with a stint as a cable-TV MC, then returned to dramas with Who Are You? and, most recently, Strongest Chil Woo.

RIP.

YG releases apology for G-dragon’s antics

YG Entertainment has released their official statement on the case of G-Dragon’s controversial solo concert.

“We came in contact with an article that said the Korean Family Health Department requested that G-Dragon’s solo concert be examined in further detail for violating the child protection law and sexual promiscuity performance,” said YGE.

“We should have considered the extreme impact popular culture can have on young adults. We are sincerely sorry for the controversy and have no intentions of putting the blame on other people or making excuses in order to refuse responsibility. YG will cooperate willingly with any investigations, and we accept all responsibility for the controversy.”

“Also, although this is a separate matter from the controversy, we would like to mention that for a lot of artists, a solo concert is a big dream as well as a big pressure for them. Usually on music programs, they perform a couple of songs, whereas in a solo concert, an artist must lead the audience for more than 2 hours by himself. We feel that artists feel pressured to show extreme performances in some cases due to the huge amount of expectation put on them.”

“In the concert DVD, all controversial scenes that were deemed inappropriate will be excluded or edited. We apologize once again for the trouble caused, and will take extreme caution to avoid causing any sort of controversy similar to this in the future. Thank you.”

Hmm, pretty heartfelt stuff no? Of course, the question is raised, who reviewed the choreography for the concert? Were no bells going off when there was a girl tied to a bed getting humped?

Either way, YG has officially apologized for the actions of the Big Bang leader, regardless of whether or not he did anything wrong. I’m sure fangirls are less upset over the dry humping than they are over the fact that the concert DVD will be edited to remove sexual fap material “inappropriate” scenes.

G-Dragon will be formally investigated by the police

It was reported that G-Dragon (real name: Kwon Ji-Yong) will be called by the police to be investigated for his concert, which is suspected to have shown unlawful materials to teenagers. His solo concert in last December caused many controversies because of many indecent acts including sex simulation and violence (details).

Police stated that they already had finished investigating the background information regarding the case. They commented, “We are looking at past decisions on similar cases. We are focusing (the case) on the affects on teenager audience. We might interview upon both producer and the singer of the concert.”

The law states that indecency in concert could be penalized up to less than one year in prison and $5,000 in fine.

Prosecutors prepare to summon GDragon to court

Big Bang GDragon will be summoned to a criminal investigation for the violation of the Youth Protection Act and for lewd conduct.

The investigation will focus on GDragon’s 1st solo concert last year, “Shine a Light”, which exhibited sexual and violent themes, and the fact that it was rated as “strictly prohibited for pre-teens under the age of 12″.

The Eastern Seoul District Prosecutor official stated, “We are in the process of collecting and reviewing all the information on the subject matter,” then continued, “We will determine the specific time frame when GDragon will be summoned to this investigation after this.”

G-Dragon held his concert last December which included a sexy performance with a female dancer for his song, Breathe.

The prosecutors are seeking for reasons why “She’s Gone” and “Korean Dream”, which were banned by the same Act in November, were still added to the show.

The two songs mentioned are considered not suitable for minors and are prohibited for sale, rent, screening and/or distributing in any channels by this law.

Individuals who are convicted of lewd conduct according to the Article 245 will face fine not exceeding ₩ 5,000,000 and one-year imprisonment and the penalties for the violation of the Youth Protection Act are ₩ 20,000,000 in fines and three-year imprisonment.

A representative from YG Entertainment gave a statement on the issue saying, “YG will assist the investigators in this process and will take care of it on behalf of the client (G-Dragon)” and added, “we will hereby accept the decision and are responsible for the legal action taken according to the Act.”

G-Dragon’s prosecution, No Freedom of Expression for Musicians?

User Image

There are many controversies over G-Dragon’s performance that was marked as an offense for an immoral performance and also said that it infringed the youth protection laws. We have to recognize that the core of this controversy is the freedom of a creator and that we cannot overlook the freedom of the audience who has the right to enjoy a creator’s expressions and results.

This controversy this time is very ambiguous. What is the standard for obscenity? Is it when someone feels sexually harassed or is it when someone thinks that it is simply too erotic? But it’s not like the police could just pick a random person that was at G-Dragon’s concert and ask “Was that too obscene for you?”

There is no set standard for something that is erotic or for something that is obscene and this controversy is equivocal. Also, performers were not naked that made the audience feel like they were watching an 18A performance. Then was the performance obscene because it was about sex? Our society that corners sex as obscene is more abnormal.

Saying that there is a problem with a performance that makes one think about sex is a problem itself since that could mean sex=immoral. Well it’s a whole different problem if G-Dragon’s performance was too explicit; however, his performance was short and people had various opinions about it.

The start of this controversy and tragedy was the opinion differences between the audience and the public that was saying G-Dragon’s performance was immoral. This eventually led more than 1000 of the audiences that were at G-dragon’s concert to turn in a petition to the prosecution.

These people turned in a petition saying “For the obscene performance crime the audience has to agree with the fact that the performance was obscene and over the line; however, G-Dragon’s concert was not obscene at all and it did not sexually harass us in any way.” Also, these people said the performance as a whole cannot be judged by the short moment.

The more important thing is the freedom of creation. A society that threatens the freedom of creation for musicians makes a society where there is no cultural variety. If G-Dragon’s two-hour-long concert is valid as obscenity because of the momentary performance during it, then this is invading the freedom and the rights of a creator.

Popular Culture Critic Tak Hyunmin states a short comment about G-Dragon’s performance controversy:

If the government and the country lets culture off the leash then the culture does well on its own or either dies off on its own. G-Dragon’s performance controversy is a very symbolic happening; I cannot tolerate the prosecution investing a performance. They do not have even the basic manners for the arts. A performance is an art on the spot and you cannot judge it by a recording of it.

Quote:
To G-Dragon fans: This whole situation that’s going on might be ugly and sadenning to fans, but really, no one knows how big or small this issue is because the media and netizens tend to exaggerate and blow things out of proportion. Some people (blogs) are already confirming that he is going to jail and completely trashing his name. The case is still going on and no one knows the results yet.

So please, don’t believe everything you read or see, until a real verdict is reached. Smile brightly like he is in the picture above and just support him.
