No, never. The picture is for Guy Davis (you can see Groening's note) and not Mignola. This picture appears to be a gift to Davis. Maybe the two artists are friends.

That's hilarious! Bender would be HB...he smokes, he drinks, he's sarcastic...only difference is he's metal.
I thought Frye would be like Meyers or something...y'know since he's kinda ordinary. ah well...ya can't get em all right No, Fry is Daimio- the closest main male character to looking normal. Meyers was never a character in BPRD comics, which is what these characters are from.
If you look, Johann and Roger are in their comic 'costumes' rather than how they appear in the films and Panya, Daimio, and Lobster Johnson are there unlike the films.
