You know Expert Village - the channel of YouTube with thousands of how-to videos.

Well, their equestrian vids are HORRIBLE. burning_eyes

You call that a lope?

And there's more where that came from...

The link took me off to a ballet class- BUT - I know what you mean. A couple years ago there was a girl/woman on there that had a whole series of training and ground working videos. The chat boards that I frequent, specificly in IL, got so "violent" and left nasty messages that she took her videos down.

I do agree that there are several ways to "train" a horse. People should take what they know they can use and leave the rest. Also, use common sense. Horses can cause you personal harm if you're not careful and respectful all the time.

I find it amusing that when she said "we're keeping our heels down" they definitely were not.
If I remember my judging rules correctly, if a horse were to be shown with a gait like that (the dead/lame lope) they are to be penalized or even removed from consideration.

Anyone else balk at the serious over bridling?

I don't mean to sound like i'm disagreeing with u ppl (who probally have some idea about western riding & all the things associated with it). But (at the shows our saddlebred barn goes to) the ppl want their western plasure horses to look like that (without the overbiting) . But again I may not know anything about non-show western horses.

Did anyone else notice how much she was holding the horse back?? Were those spurs or small saw blades??

Its a disgusting fad that's slowly dieing out (at least in my area). For a long while it was even worse with 'lopes' with a very distinctive 4 beat cycle. If I remember correctly it started to really gain 'momentum' as 'attractive' in the last 80's/early 90's. Earning the Western Pleasure classes the nickname of being the Dead Horse Classes. When I first started I was watching a rated pleasure classes and thought that some of the horses were lame- nope, it was how the trainers wanted them to look. Something about that slow painful looking gait being more comfortable or some rot like that.

One of the many reasons I will not show western

Oi vey, watch the 'english' halt-canter transition. Her hands! Even the slowest 'english' mount I've ridden has gone better than that. And if you're going to be showing this as an 'expert' at least have the decency to use an english saddle.
