I don't mean to sound like i'm disagreeing with u ppl (who probally have some idea about western riding & all the things associated with it). But (at the shows our saddlebred barn goes to) the ppl want their western plasure horses to look like that (without the overbiting) . But again I may not know anything about non-show western horses.
Its a disgusting fad that's slowly dieing out (at least in my area). For a long while it was even worse with 'lopes' with a very distinctive 4 beat cycle. If I remember correctly it started to really gain 'momentum' as 'attractive' in the last 80's/early 90's. Earning the Western Pleasure classes the nickname of being the Dead Horse Classes. When I first started I was watching a rated pleasure classes and thought that some of the horses were lame- nope, it was how the trainers wanted them to look. Something about that slow painful looking gait being more comfortable or some rot like that.

'english' halt-canter transition. Her hands! Even the slowest 'english' mount I've ridden has gone better than that. And if you're going to be showing this as an 'expert' at least have the decency to use an english saddle.
