For everyone that is asking:
David Tennant is signed up to do 3 or 4 Doctor Who movies (instead of a new season) And that is all.
He is leaving to join the The Royal Shakespeare Company.
He could not play the Doctor and play Hamlet with The Royal Shakespeare Company at the same time. He said it on the Graham Norton show.

Officially, he's taking a break from Who to do Hamlet, which is why 2009 in only specials, and not a full season. Last I checked, there was no official notice of him leaving Who for good.
