I was wondering if anyone knew really truely what really smart japanese students are like. I know that in general, the smarter students are in the US, the more likely they are to be slightly off their rocker (certifably crazy). And I mean the level of 'yes, I got into Harvard, but I didn't like the feel so I went to Princeton instead. It has a much more cute campus center.' That level. Because steriotypically smart students in Japan seem more... blah... some ARE a bit... blah, but really, are they? Have you met anyone who has just studied ALL DAY? (don't do it unless you have a test the next day)
Just really wondering... and this stems from watching Yakitate! japan btw. lmao. Because Kuroyan.... they think that his over-the-top reactions are odd because he went to Harvard, when that's EXACTLY what you would expect from someone who would go there.... sweatdrop

From my experience (and what I know), you get to see the study habits in senior high school, not college. For the most part, you have students that do study pretty hard come test and finals time, but for the most part are pretty laid back in college. Getting into the college of choice by passing college entrance exams seems to be the main reason the huge perception of "studious Japanese students" exists. Other than that, some students are a little more laid back with their study habits than they were in high school preparing on entering college.
I have noticed some awesome examples isshoukenmei-ing (persevering through hard work) here, but that is in the realm of sports and martial arts and not studying.

Well, EVERYONE goes crazy junior year at least to get the best grades to deal with the competition. (most stressful year ever. ;__; ) Are extracurriculars as important for getting into college? Any idea about how grades and exam scores are taken into account, when everyone is just about as good in that? They do take activities into account? (besides sports and sports scholarships)
Maybe there are sports fanatics everywhere too..... but I never really come face to face with them. ;p Musician here. Nothing near the sports field. -_-; but there are crazy musicians.... even when away with an orchestra for something, they practice in their hotel rooms. D; (you're suposed to go out and have fun dammit!)
and yeah.... cram schools... i've heard of them. @_@
And also maybe other people study too... some people study to get good grades I guess.... I just also know a lot of people who are smart in general and don't need to study. ^_^; So, maybe someone could tell me the plight of a normal U.S. student. -_______________-;
