Hopefully most RPers are aware of this, but there are varying degrees of literacy/depth to RPing.
I'm basing this post off of my experiences on Neopets and a few private RP forums - some of what I type might be outdated, but for the most part it should still hold true. I'm not trying to offend anyone in this post, and if I accidentally do, sorry <_<
So from what I know there's different types of literacy - illiterate, semi-lit, literate, and advanced-lit.
An illiterate is someone who consistently makes typos or misspellings, tons of grammar mistakes, and in general is almost impossible to RP with because you can barely tell what they typed.
A semi-literate is someone whose posts can be replied to, although there are still many spelling/grammar problems.
Literates are people who usually type correctly and use decent grammar. Occasional typos happen to everyone.
Advanced-literates are what I call "RPing elitists," in that they may refuse to RP with others based on the other person's level of literacy. They use long words and the thesaurus is their best friend. From my Neopet days this included "orbs" for eyes, and "banner" for horse tail.
RPers can also be divided into people who always post in full paragraphs, people who post depending on the situation, and people who post single sentences, but that's a completely different matter.
Of course unless I'm mistaken the Earthweaver Herd doesn't discriminate based on how old you are, how well you type, etc.
Would it be possible, however, to make a separate subforum for private RPs and/or Literate RPs? It would save a lot of strain on people's inboxes if they want to do 1-on-1 RPs or the like. I don't know much about how guilds on Gaia work, but if there are rankings you could possibly ask people to submit RP samples to determine whether they have access to a literate subforum.
Again I'm not hating on anyone, but some things can really take the fun out of RPing. It's why I stopped RPing several years ago, and now that I'm starting again, I hope I won't be stuck in the same situation I was back in 04.
