"I appreciate that a great deal," Trielnolu said earnestly. "I am very interested in the matter, now that it's been brought to my attention."
There was a very good chance she would forget about it entirely upon returning to Llurth Dreir, but she didn't think so little of her ability to focus. She believed she would recall it later and still find it interesting. In reality, it was not likely to be the case, but she did mean what she said, for whatever it's worth.
"Of course. I suspect Brizthara will want me shortly anyway. I'll never be up to par as far as she's concerned, but doing things to make her angry - such as not being where I'm expected to be, when I'm expected to be there - do my cause no good." Not that she had an actual cause at the moment, but it would not serve her well in any case.
"It's not such a blessing to have a teacher to myself. Imagine having someone with nothing better to do than criticise you all day long, while ordering you about and making you performe mundane activities which have nothing to do with your area of study. Then imagine paying for the privilege."
She had never considered if the males who trained at her school were given personal, one-on-one instruction of the sort she received with Brizthara. She didn't really think about the males at the school at all. They were not as important as she was, and she never saw them. She knew there were other students who kept lovers, but she was not among them. She had always considered herself too fat to be attractive, and she didn't like the idea of spending time with people who found her unattractive, and only expressed an interest in her because she was female and it was expected of them.
Tri-no sighed, maybe a little melodramatically.
"In short, it's not that pleasant. I actually preferred being in a classroom setting, where occasionally the instructor's attention might be elsewhere for a moment or two, rather than focused the whole time on me and whatever I've done wrong."

The possibility of having one to discuss magical things with lifted his mood a bit. It would be a good motivation for him. Or so he hoped. It seemed she did not get along with her teacher. That is what the 'partner' was he was certain of now. Mas had to consider just how a female teacher would be, and he did feel some sympathy for Tri-No. He certainly would not want a female teacher. As easily shaken as he was in their presence he was not able to believe he'd ever get anywhere with a teacher like Tri-No's.
"I believe I understand your position. I suspect it is in ones nature to envy the situation of another though. I find the lack of attention demoralizing. I feel as if I will never catch up and if I need some help or need something explained to me I have all those other students laughing at me for my stupidity. Thopugh with just one focusing on you..well...I do understand."
Mas shifted from the bed and rose. his eyes sweeping over Tri-No's seated form as he placed a fingertip between his lips and nibbled upon it. This discussion with Tri-No had left him feeling... comfortable in her presence. Plus, she didn't have the typical female look to her. He did not feel threatened by her, and as such he found himself rather surprised when he flipped his other hand towards her. He removed the finger he had been nibbling upon from his mouth and formed a faint smile.
"May I escort you back to where you should be waiting? Perhaps if your teacher is there she will not be so displeased if you arrive with me? If she has busniess with Mother then she may find it useful if you find favor in turn with one of her sons."

Tri-no had not realized that she had made it incredibly obvious that she had let Mas know that her "partner" was really her teacher. She didn't know her attempt at self-aggrandizement had not gone over as well as she had hoped. Therefore, she was relatively pleased with herself for having made an acquaintance basically on her own, without having been introduced by someone else. It was, perhaps, a ridiculous thing to be pleased about, but she was not really very good with people. Her self-consciousness about being overweight made her touchy and afraid that someone else would mention her size.
She watched him nibble his finger and wondered that no one had ever taken him to task for it. In her House, such mannerisms were quickly gotten rid of, or someone would get rid of them for you. The same went for most bad habits or addictions. Matron Baen'duis liked to have the members of her House healthy and presentable unless she specified otherwise. No one had ever stopped Tri-no from over-indulging in her fondness for food, of course, but it wasn't normal that a drow would gain wait from that sort of indulgence anyway. It wasn't as though she was constantly shoveling food down her gullet or something. In fact, she occasionally went for days without eating.
"I'd appreciate that," Tri-no said, glancing around. She wasn't sure she'd be able to find her way back, anyway, and she was reluctant to speak to any of the oddly-garbed servant-types she'd noticed. The extremity of the oddness of their dress made her very uncomfortable.
"We really ought to make an effort to keep in contact. It would be pleasant to have someone to write to or something," Tri-no said. "And then I can legitimately claim you as an acquaintance, and hope Brizthara decides to see it as you've suggested she might."
Also, she felt very comfortable around this effeminate mage. He was effeminate enough to have similar interests to her own, but aware of his place enough that he probably wouldn't embarrass or humiliate her out of cruelty. She got enough of that at home.

Her acceptance of his offer made Mas feel quite pleased. He had not felt like this since...since...well...since he was very very young and still had his hair in bows and purfume on his neck...
With Tri-no's riseing, he made quick to open the door for her, but paused so he could walk beside her and direct her towards the enterance hall. "I agree. Keeping in contact would be a very nice way to further our aquaintiship. It will at the very least look as if I am accomplishing something on my end."
Mas lifted a hand to half cover his lips as he laughed ever so softly. A gentle chuckle of a laugh as he swept down the hall feeling as he had not in so long. "If it is that she troubles you much over your contact with me I could probably send you something by courier. Something she herself would probably have to barter hard to get ahold of, but given freely as a gift to you? Would that improve her view of you?"

Tri-no tried not to wonder what his last statement meant, that he was "accomplishing something on his end." It seemed to her that he was accomplishing about as much as she was. After all, she still had no idea what she was going to do with herself, and eventually shewould have to specialize in something. She didn't seem to have much of an affinity for elemental magic, but she didn't seem to have much of an affinity for any kind of magic except small tricks, really.
"She won't trouble me, really. At least, I hope she won't. Unless you do give me a difficult-to-acquire gift. That might be more trouble than it's worth, though the thought is appreciated. I don't think it's possible to impress her." She scowled briefly.
She was very grateful to have Mas acting as her escort: there was no way she would have remembered how to get back to where she had been. When they arrived in the hall where Brizthara was waiting, wearing an unreadable expression, she realized that she wouldn't even have recognized this place. What a nightmare it must be to navigate the manor on a regular basis. The fat older mage looked at Tri-no with another, different unreadable expression and glanced at Mas appraisingly.
Then she spoke in her sweet, honeyed voice, and it was difficult for Tri-no to notice that she was obese and generally foul-tempered, even though she had spent a great deal of time with the mage. One simply did not become used to Brizthara's voice.
"Hello, Mas D'aun," she greeted Tri-no's companion. "It is a pleasure to see one of Matron Barrith's sons. I hope your studies are progressing well."
She didn't pause long enough for an answer to be given. It was more a speech to show that she knew who she was addressing. He was male, and therefore of relatively little interest to Brizthara. Even if he was training to be a mage. Even if he was the son of Matron Barrith.
"Trielnolu, I am ready."
Tri-no turned to Mas so that Brizthara couldn't see her face and rolled her eyes expressively, clearly meaning, "See what I put up with?"

"You would know better then I." Mas replied with a accepting nod of his head. Tri-No knew her teacher after all. Mas was merely...trying to appeal to her? Maybe...a little...though it was more out of his desire to convince the female to truely keep in contact with him. Presents tended to be a great way to encourage at least some poliet interest right?
"Well then, I shall merely send things to impress you instead." Mas felt rather pleased with himself with his answer. Perhaps if most females were more like Tri-No he wouldn't feel so shaky and unsure of himself all the time!
Ah...and as if it were a sign to utterly ruin the good mood, and confidence, that Mas had managed to form. There she was. The teacher that Tri-No seemed to not like so well. Mas... Could utterly see why. While he had felt that Tri-no's lack of typical drow female physique made her far more pleasent to speak with...he felt this teacher of her's stepped over that line and much closer to repulsive. Mas D'aun's smile wavered and fell quite quickly as the other gave him a look over. He could not help but feel she found him quite lacking and uninteresting at the very least. Something that was, in short, a low feeling when it came from a drow so utterly repugnant as this teacher.
Okay, perhaps she was not -that- bad. But still.. Mas had quite the vanity. Tri-No's physical condition was tolerable in his egotistical judgement.
He did not attempt to speak in reply to Tri-No's teacher. Her words seemed, from his perspective, to be the sort that did not encourage a reply. Ah! If he were a female he'd have made some snide comment! If only he were!!! His blue eyes flickered to Tri-No...and the rolling of them that she gave him...
Oh...she was a delightful girl... The smile that had faltered had a faint breath of life fluttered back to his lips.
"Good Bye Tri-No. I do do do hope you will honor me with another visit." He did not care how the other female deciphered his words. All he wished at that moment was to appeal, just a little bit, to Tri-No so that she would maybe...just maybe...speak with him again. Mas clasped his hands before him and gave her a slight half bow. Rising up from his bow, he took a step back from her, then waved for the servants waiting with the nasty teacher to do as was their job and see to the pair's exit.
He did wonder if Tri-No's teacher had managed to get what she wished from Matron Barrith... with her mental state he doubted she'd even have managed a halfway productive discussion. Had Quavvira been around he was certain something could have come of it.... Perhaps...he ought to look into conducting family busniess...male or not...someone had to speak for Barrith right?

Tri-no smiled at Mas' ready answer. She'd never been that quick to turn a phrase. It simply was one of the many things not among her talents. She couldn't help thinking that it sounded like Mas was almost...flirting? Not with her, certainly. No one flirted with her. Likely she was once again reading too much into things and putting meanings there which really weren't. She'd done this to herself before, so as a self-defensive measure she gave him what she thought a very neutral answer.
"That's nice of you to say."
It was something of a joy to note that Mas was as taken aback by Brizthara as she, herself, had been when she first saw her. She knew others found Brizthara unpleasant to look at until she spoke, and then most seemed to forget. Mas, however, seemed not to have been effected by the mage's spectacular voice. That was something interesting in and of itself.
"Of course, Mage Brizthara," Tri-no said very sweetly. It would have been impossible not to detect the sarcasm beneath her words, but the older mage made no remark. She even waited and let Tri-no make her goodbyes to Mas, which Tri-no had not expected.
"Thank you for the offer," she said. "I'd like to. Maybe once I've gotten transportation spells mastered."
There was no way she was going to rely on Brizthara for transportation on social visits. Absolutely not. In fact, she was certain she would devote herself more to her studies after this. She had seen that Mas had plenty of good ideas without someone peering over his shoulder and criticising him every step of the way, and she knew that the only way to get out from under Brizthara's thumb was to become a full-fledged mage.
