eBay recently had Robby Gordon's thrown and dented helmet up for auction, claiming all of the proceeds would be donated to the Harrah's charity fund, so that Katrina victims who worked for Harrah's would have something to go by.
Well, apparently eBay has since removed the article from the auction block, after several things came up that interested their attention: 1) Robby had no documentation authenicating the helmet as the one thrown at Michael Waltrip last weekend, and had no documentation saying all of the proceeds were going anywhere, 2) The bids seemed too unreal for a NASCAR article... last bid: $10 million USD!

Man, some weird things tunr up on eBay. Someone once tried to auction a military jet fighter on eBay, I believe.
I heard the race last weekend was pretty dirty. Did they actually have to red-flag the race to tell the drivers to cut it out with the bumping? *hasn't seen the race yet*

Yes, they did that, but the track was also littered in brake parts from someone's car.

Ponza Yes, they did that, but the track was also littered in brake parts from someone's car. Ah, I see. Can't race with brake parts on the track I've heard they put the helmet back up on eBay. I think the bids are more realistsic this time too. *is off to check it out* Edit- Yeah, its back up, the curent bid is at $55, 600.

Heh, apparently some bids were "rejected" the helmet is now down to $51,100.
UPDATE (from the source itself! added italics...) The helmet was signed live tonight 9/23 on Speed TV by Michael Waltrip. Robby Gordon will also be signing the helmet, possibly in your presence. We are happy to announce that Robby Gordon has agreed to meet the winning bidder in person in Charlotte, NC, and sign the helmet in front of them. He will also pose for a picture and sign up to 2 other items you bring with you.
Please note that all travel and other expenses related to traveling to Charlotte, NC are the sole responsibility of the winning bidder. Payment must be made in advance before picking up the helmet. The pickup of the helmet must be scheduled at least 7 days in advance in is completely subject to Robby Gordon's schedule. We do not know that schedule at this time, and it will be worked out upon completion of the auction. The winning bidder may still opt to have the helmet signed and shipped to your location free of charge. Please ask any questions prior to bidding.

i highly doubt that the profits of the sale will benefit anyone other than the one selling it. its sad that people bid on such things.

Why do you say that? Why is there any reason not to believe?
