As they left the room and gathered the remaining men a man in a neat purple suit came up through the floor. He said in a high pitch yet snobby voice "Mr Pleasant the elders would like you to eliminate Baran Vengious."

Echo knew the sounds of a fight when she heard one. She knew the signs that a fight was about to occur, and how to read the aftermath. She knew how to start fights. She knew how to end fights.
Yes, we can basically say she knew a good deal about fights.
So when bodies start flying out of windows, obviously the work of magicians? A law officer like Echo starts to get very interested. So interested that she'll drop the trail that's about to go cold and stare at the third floor of a seemingly normal apartment building.
Well, normal except for the broken windows and fighting that was going on inside. Yeah, that wasn't normal for a regular human apartment building. Maybe a magical one, but not a normal one.
Echo stared. "What the crap?"
