I picked up a copy of
Insight Meditationby Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein; it is a meditation course that comes with a book, cards, and two CD's. I actually found the cd's to be very helpful.
Each session starts and ends with a gong, neither of them talk too much, just enough to sort of guide you along when you get distracting, and their voices are both very pleasant.
Guided meditations really depends on who is doing the guiding; sometimes it's helpful, sometimes it's not. In my opinion anyway.
