The Baikov Fables: Eltsov Forest
Legend Of The Gems

I
n a world of legends the small village of Winvita lacks all urban appeal. Gentle, flowing wheat covers it's rolling hills where the large tamed beasts roam. But even a small village as this has it's own folklore and myths. Children fear its name and elders shudder of the very mention, but there are a very few that dream of such a thing. The Eltsov Forest. It stands tall and proud against the bending grains and dares any to step into it's shadowy depths. Tales tell of the fortune that awaits any brave adventurer, yet none have returned to the village and at night the ghostly howls and moans of some tormented beast sweep over the fields and seep through the village.
Alas, greed can overrule even the deepest fear. And our tale starts with the hearts of children. Five who are brave, or simply daft, enough to take their chances for the legendary Gems of Firar.
Whether these poor souls survive or not rests in the forest's hands.

The Tale

"G
ather around youngins," called an old mage, his long white beard tangled and under kept. "Your dear Macgian will tell you a story of old."
A young red haired boy ran over and down near the mage's side. He placed his hand in the man's knee and pressed forward.
"What is it today old mage? What story have you brought us?" He asked with large eyes and a smile that could never be repressed.
"My dear lad, I shall tell you the story of the Gems of Firar and of the secrets that they hold."
They boy sat back quickly and stared at the man as he waited. He was soon joined by other the villages other younger folk.
"A long time ago existed an old wizard named Firar who had practiced every magic that ever existed,-" He was cut off by a small girl who raised her hand slightly.
"But old man, magic isn't real right?" She said curiously.
The man laughed and shook his head.
"No, not anymore. This was in the olden age, when dragons and elves lived amongst humans and shared their magic powers with us. But it has been too long since then, and the practice of magic has long died."
The girl spoke up once more. "What about the Drangons and Elves?" she inquired.
"Ah, yes. After the War of Ages they all but vanished. But, but that is for another story. As I was saying..."
The girl sat back silently, her lips pouting. The mage's voice hummed once more and fell over the children like a blanket.
"Firar was, as I said, very knowledgeable but he was also wise and a good ally to have. In fact, he was best friends with our old king. Rashin, oh how he was so brave and powerful! He protected our kind with his broad sword and swift skills." The man's eyes seemed to trail off, as though he had once been there and met the man of who he spoke of.
"But back to Firar. He liked to build things, to test his magic. He would poke and prod everything until he understood it. One of his favorites was nature for he never truly understood everything. Sure, his magic and science explained plenty of things that would blow the minds of his fellow beings. But he never, got it. He never understood the mysteries of mother nature. And it was this kind of prodding and poking that led him to create gems. At first it was simply a way to prolong his bankruptcy, for he used plenty of money in his experiments. But soon it formed to something else, a unique way to introduce magic into the hearts of everyday citizens. And, perhaps, into the future. He began to test with his skills upon the gems he had already formed, intertwining magic with their crystal forms."
The mage bent down towards the children and spoke in a hushed tone, as though what he was telling them some old secret. The children leaned in too, fighting to hear the mage's words between the thumps of their beating hearts.
"In the end he created four gems. A blue gem that shined like frozen ice and had the power to heal and was crafted into the crystal of a curling wolf staff. A purple one was melted into the limbs of a longbow, casting a flaming spell upon every arrow nocked. The third was as green as the plants that it charmed. You see, this one was a twisting flute with hole running down its side. The owner not even need to know how to play it to work its charms for it plays itself. And now, the four one...." the mage faltered at this and licked his dry lips. "The third was of a deep golden hue and was crafted into a knife blade, its hilt mirroring its blade's beauty. It was years later that the fourth gem went missing amongst his other less valuable gems for a thief had snuck into his chambers and stolen them from him. He was as furious as a mad bull but not as angry as he would be in a few months."
A older teen had walked up and stood at the edge of the children not long ago and now suddenly spoke. His voice ran out and his clear violet eyes peered from his long black hair that came down over his ears and reached to his neck. "Thats when the king died," he said, his voice ringing like crystal. A smaller girl peered out from behind the lad as he crossed his arms in front of him. Her yellow eyes gleaming in his shadow as she clutched his side, her long red hair slipping over her shoulders.
The old mage looked up and smiled, though confusion was in his eyes.
"Why yes lad, how did you know? Not many children know of the king and his connection to Firar."
A fairyish smile slipped across the boys face and his eyes gleamed.
"I'm not like many children old man. But please, finish your tale."
The mage looked at the children for a moment longer before his eyes widened. He quickly hid his surprise and returned to his story.
"Yes, our king Rashin died. But not from old age or a fearsome battle. No, it was by the hands of a thief. The thief who had stolen from Farir. Now, this news didn't get past our dear country without people growing angry and hunting down the thief. It wasn't long before Farir found out exactly who it was and he hunted them harder and longer than any other person in the lands would have done. And he killed that thief. Oh, he was so very furious but not just with the killer but with our kind. He couldn't believe how we could kill someone as pure as Rashin. SO he took back his creation and stole back to his mansion. In the following days he buried his friend in Rashin's castle's garden and created a tombstone of the highest standards, its white stone carved into a magnificent peonix and its eyes of red rubies."
Macgian gave a sigh of exasperation, tired from his long story and from the sadness of Rashin's death.
"After that he pulled back into his mansion and began his greatest work. A labyrinth forest that housed his four gems and many other things. Stranger and more evil things then we have ever seen. Some say he died there, others say he still lives and feeds the monsters that roam the floors of the labyrinth and that munch on the bones of fallen adventurers."
The tall boy smiled again. "Farir was such a fool for drama. He never did like boring things."
This time the girl spoke as well. "Yes, he probably left thous gems there just so he could tempt young people into his death trap. He liked the hunt as well. These people make him to be too much of a kind old man." she whispered.
The two turned and began to walk away when Macgian stood and called out to them.
"You two I must speak with you!" A laugh was heard from the boy as they both dissapeared into the passing crowd and the remaining children looked around for they hadn't seen the voice that they all had heard.
Macgian looked around once more before turning around, his body shaking.
"They aren't gone... They ..... they remain..." he whispered as he shakily walked into the waining light and into the tree's shadows.

NPCs

Macgian~ X
An old mage that travels about the city. He is quite wise and full of tales but whether these tales are true are another argument. Some people say he's as ancient as the land that the city sits on. He seems to have a connection to the past that he tells and of the last king, Rashin. What is he hiding from the town folks and why did he react so to the teenagers?

The Mysterious boy and Girl~
Who are these two? Macgian seems to know something about him but he hasn't spoken to many people after they left. He just sits under the shade of a tree near the city court.

Rashin~
A reliable king that everyone like. Well, not everyone. He was best friends with Farir and would often spend weeks sparing with him and would even ask for his assistance in battle. Rashin was killed by the theif that stole Farir's knife.

Farir~
Rashin's best friend. Created the gems that were re-collected and stored in the forest that he created after Rashin's death. Many say he has died, other say he lives in the forest feeding his pets. No one knows the truth though.

Members

There are only 5 main character spots in this roleplay. I don't want all males or all females and we need a multitude of different personalities. You can create a brand new character or use one you already have. To try out send me the link to your character profile.

Q:How do I do this?
A: You make your own thread in the profile section of the guild. In your thread you post all your character profiles for this thread is yours and yours alone. Each post should be one character. Then, click on this picture:
This is the link to the post. Send that to me and I'll go over it. If I think it fits then I'll include you and post the link and a rough profile for your character. YAY!

Q: So we're /trying out/ for this position? Do I need to include an example of my roleplaying.
A: No, not really. But I'd LOVE it if you did. I get a good idea by seeing the profile but its good to see your skills too.
