The Chronicles of Selant

The tomes that constitute these chronicles are all written by Lyrians, the race in whose blood flows the power of the Elemental Lyr, Father of Wisdom.

Within these parchments are the stories of stories, the things that eventually turn from history to legend, legend to myth, and myth to fairy tale. This is the unabashed truth of Selant, as seen by the ever watchful, ever observant Lyrians.

Chapter III: Nations

Chapter IV: Elementals

Chapter I: Creation

We Lyrians know creation as something different then those of the other races. We know creation through the first breaths of life, the first touch and love of sunlight and the first moment in which we opened our eyes to see Lyr in all his power and glory.

We were not the first upon Selant, or the first upon Gaia. That honor is given to only the Spirits - for it is through them all things have come. The Spirits are those who gave us our bodies, our minds and our souls. We Lyrians believe that our will and freedom to do good comes from Lyr and Nafreiyu whose power is what entwines all life within the cycle of Life and Death.

But it is from our Father, Lyr, that we were created. My brothers and sisters of whom I am the only remaining, were the first of our kind. The first of the Light and the first of the Book - these Chronicles in which all of my people's lives have been bound to since our first breaths of life. It is this book that Hyu'ma and Ferolan will see and this book that, we hope, will guide them away from the pains of war and revolution which have sadly graced so many of these pages.

There is no mortal being who knows the truth of their creation, but from what we Lyrians know and have seen, it was the Spirits - all six - that breathed life into us and nurtured us in our primitive states.

It is because of this that it is only fitting to love those whom gave us life. The Skies, the Seas, the Earth, the Flame, the Light and Shadow - our Creators are these things in manifest and it is this which we must respect, lest they awaken and cast down upon us such a terrible hate that all who live through it will never forget.

To the People who read these Chronicles with an open mind, please hear my people's plea.

Turn away from the pains of War and Hate - for it is these things that shake the Earth and these things that will awaken Fate.

Chapter II: People

We were not the first. When the Lyrians opened their mouths to breathe, many mouths were open and breathing Caelum's essence. When we first learned of knowledge and learning from Lyr, there were no other Spirits upon Gaia save for the Elementals, whom, in their omnipotent power, watched over all of us and ensured peace between their children.

Who were their children? We are all their children - our ancestors were their first children who received the first gifts from the spirits themselves.

The Ferolans began their first steps of separation from their animal brethren as many of the clans began to move like the Hyu'mas upon two feet. As a whole, the Ferolans were then and are still now very reclusive and only interact with the other races out of necessity and in the defense of their Animal Kin.

The Hyu'ma are always quite entertaining to behold. Their first societies and gatherings were viewed by ever watchful Lyrian eyes, and the Hyu'ma paid us no mind, completely engrossed with the land, the sea, the sky, and the world in which their parents had brought them into.

While it is unbecoming of a Lyrian to be envious or jealous, the first experience of the emotion gripped our hearts as it was the Hyu'ma that the Spirits chose to create their progeny. We Lyrians assumed that it was because Lyr and Ratha so favored their own children that the Hyu'ma were chosen so that they were not to feel dejected, but I believe that my siblings said this so often to themselves that it became their truth; a curtain with which they hid their pain.

The first Hyu'ma chosen by the Elementals were given a fraction of their power, a thing that we Lyrians believe was a dire mistake, for it was this power that created Envy within all Hyu'ma who were not blessed, and the first seeds of conflict were sown.

There were people whose appearance was affected by the Elementals they held particularly close to their hearts, and it was from these few people that the traits of the Ethnic Groups of the Hyu'ma originated from.

We Lyrians basked in the love of Lyr and paid no mind to the others, roaming throughout Selant and discovering the glories in which our creators had given us.

The first years were peaceful years, but alas, it was from this that the saying goes that "all good things must come to an end".

Chapter III: Nations

Eventually, we Lyrians settled within the Fjell Mountains and founded our bastion of learning along the earthen spine, and sent our children to roam the world while we watched, waited, and listened.

The Ferolans had established their Clans - living among their Animal Kin where they roamed and protecting them as best they could despite the Hyu'ma who were dependent upon them as sources of nutrition.

The Hyu'ma, despite their short lives, multiply and spread like wildfire. The race had established itself all across Selant and the separate people flocked to leaders who would eventually establish the Countries which the Hyu'mas have marked across Selant today.

This was something that I feel we Lyrians should have stopped. While the Hyu'mas gathered together with those that shared their beliefs, they took affront to those that believed differently of them and the seeds of war began to sprout, buds of conflict appearing across Selant like flowers in Arrosent's fields.

While before the nations were established many, including myself, believed that it was the Ferolans who were the most aggressive of the races. Deeply territorial in nature with the strength to uphold their claims, many Hyu'ma found that they were incapable of fighting these clans and left them alone to roam their mountains.

The establishment of the Nations was the first step allowing the first conflicts to sully the face of Selant. These first, fledgling groups were a far cry from the nations of the present but served their purpose in protecting those within their fold, and fighting those around them for power and resource.

Chapter IV: Elementals

As their children had learned and grown from what they had taught them, the Elementals felt content and each decided to begin their long rest. This story is the origin of the various legends, lullabies and myths of the Elemental's resting places.

In the Beginning
With their work done the spirits came together and created the first Gaians and content with their children, departed to their places of rest.

One within a molten core
Another dreaming in the deepest sea
A strong heart residing in the tallest of mountains
Curiosity sleeping where the winds and storms are born

And two where Light and Shadow are one and the same.

It is in these places where the Spirits sleep until the time comes for them to awaken and help their children once more.

No one quite knows where the Elementals sleep - the legend is based off the most probable assumptions. What we Lyrians truly know of this period is that before the Elementals departed for their slumber, they broke off a portion of themselves and created the Spirits which roam the lands, seas, and air, controlling the elements and keeping balance within the world.

It is these very same Elementals that continue the work of their Mother-Spirits in choosing the Mage Innates that can wield their power without the use of summoning spirits.

Before his departure, Lyr came to my people and gave us the secret in which we Lyrians have instilled within this book; the secret of awakening the Elementals from their rest.

In times of need, the Elementals can be summoned for aid. Whether they aid their Summoner in their plight or not is entirely up to them. But the only persons whom are capable of doing so are members of the Elemental Bloodlines - the descendents of the handful of Hyu'ma chosen by the 6 themselves.

Exactly how the Elementals are to be summoned is privy to the families of the Bloodlines, to whom we Lyrians only approached when we felt as though Selant's balance was being disturbed.

Sadly, in our well intentioned action of informing the families, it seemed that we doomed Selant to never ending war.

Chapter V: Power

The Hyu'ma are many things. A thriving race, full of curiosity, intelligence, courage and virtue. They are all of these things and more: conniving, envious, power hungry and very capable of evil.

It is the latter of these things that I have seen most recently within Selant. The Hyu'ma of the Elemental Bloodlines took the knowledge we had given them to preserve the balance and broke it entirely.

It began with Kindle's appearance... And it did not stop.

The Great Fire Spirit appeared on Pelysum Isle, southeast of Selant in the Halledus Sea. The entire Isle was lost in Kindle's flaming rage, and all the Fire Spirits upon Selant were thrown into a frenzy, their powers magnified to immeasurable levels at the appearance of their Mother-Spirit.

The Hyu'ma had summoned the Elemental for power and had paid the price. So too had many denizens of Selant, as the plains and forests were filled with flames.

We Lyrians had made a dire mistake. We were the enablers of this catastrophe by revealing our most guarded secret. We had misjudged the descendants of the Bloodlines - the mantles of the noble houses have fallen to lesser men. And now we all pay the price.

Miyune, Ratha and Caelum were summoned in succession these past three months and each in turn refused their Summoners wishes, the Great Spirits rage and disappointment falling upon the denizens of Selant through the rampage and havoc of the minor spirits. The incidents caused by the spirits rampages ranged from mudslides, tsunamis and winds that ravaged many a nations fledgling armies and armadas. There was no corner of the realm untouched by disaster, for all things contain a spirit.

We Lyrians are a reclusive and prideful people, ever observant and always watching, but we could not idly stand by and watch the lands be torn apart by greed.

Begging the last Scions of Nafreiyu and Lyr to never attempt their summoning, our words were considered and deliberated upon but unheeded.

Together, the final Scions of the two bloodlines summoned the twin Spirits and the great Elementals appeared to those chosen.

Of what exactly happened even we Lyrians know not. But the calamities ended, and the two Scions lived on and were able to continue their lines, and Selant and her people were able to live on.
