WoG3: FAQ Thread

Questions, Comments, Concerns about WoG? Ask them here!

Commonly asked Questions:

question What's the level of Technology?
Selant's technology is a mix of medieval rope and pulley and Magic Based Technology with Airships that run off of Elemental Stones.

For example, the canal system within Valena's capital city, Valanista, is powered by boulder sized Water Elemental Stones. Capable of controlling the flow of the entire Ibaean River as it nears the city, the Water Stones of Valanista protect it from floods, large chunks of ice and erosion.

Airships are fueled by massive amounts of Air elemental stones which are harvested from the sky.

Lampposts are filled with Fire Elemental Stones at night.

Farmers enrich their soils by not using chemicals but Earth elemental stones to give nutrients to their crops.

question Why a 1 Character Limit?

Quality character development for each character and so that people put more time into each one.

question 1. I've read the WoG Nuts and Bolts, good job. I wanted to know if the exiles of any country would be prosecuted in another city?
Nope! If you're exiled from one nation, say Valena, any other nation would welcome you with open arms or, depending upon the circumstances, with pitchforks or whatnot. Like if you were a fancy flouncy Nulian Female parading into Jaqar while unmarried and without an escort - not quite something that they appreciate due to their very strict and set social norms.

question 2. Since this is a political role-play the attempt to kill the king for his crown thing will be popular right? Could someone take on that roll in whatever their character is? Just like a side job for vengeance?
Lots and lots and LOTS of fratricide/usurping will be in the plotting! If you want to snag control over say, Arrosent - you'd have to be already be a member within the Estate (the Legislative body from which the people of Arrosent elect their Dodge) and you'd make this dastardly plot to kill him and put yourself at the top of the list of candidates! Bwah ha ha ha!

question 3. The application for Bio’s state that you need to have a 2+ paragraph of previous role-plays you obviously are looking for links, would you prefer links from the ‘View All Posts’ or just from the role-plays with a certain page?

Just a simple link to the RP in which your samples originate from is good enough for me. The Link to the posts themselves would be even better but they're not required.

question 4. When one is a shaman, priest, or magician are there spells already made up or do you come up with one on the spot using the elementals name in a chant?

There are no pre-set spell lists for any of the Mages or Paladins and there are no pre-set skills for the other classes either. All Magical Power comes from the 6 Elemental Spirits but how you cast magic depends on your route and beliefs - (I haven't gone into this yet in the Nuts and Bolts thread yet but this is how it'll go)

A Mage chooses two ways in which they draw their power: either by Summoning or by being blessed/chosen by the Spirits. The main difference between the two forms is that Summoners call out the spirits and manipulate their power into their spells (which means that you can do anything from summon a large Fire Spirit to help you tackle a monster or you summon the spirit and take their power and use it within a spell). Summoners also are the only Mage types with Familiars. That comes with a pro/con though, in the sense that their Familiar is one of their main sources of magic and if they send said Familiar out to do something or they become separated, the Mage is weaker.

Innates are Mages who received their magical power directly from a Spirit. They were 'taught' their magic through the spirit they had encountered or in the cases of the Elemental Bloodline Members, long ago when the Elementals walked on Gaia they were chosen by Lyr/Ratha/Miyune/Kindle/Pick an Elemental Spirit and through their blood flows their power. Bloodline members are going to play a pivotal role within the RP later on, however, and I usually won't choose you right off the bat from just your Bio Application.

So Innates who are not of Elemental Bloodlines were chosen by Spirits and given power over that element by the spirit. Instead of having to summon a spirit to get their power, they just dip within themselves and can cast. They, after being chosen/blessed by one of the spirits, have access to the power which they themselves have access to as all the little spirits floating around on Gaia are all part of the Original 6 Elemental Spirits: Lyr/Ratha/Miyune/You get my drift.

The two ways of casting give equal power and equal priority to each spell - just a different way of doing it.

If you were going the religious route then you'd pick either Summoner or Innate, and the way in which you cast would probably more that of a prayer to the Elemental Spirit Nafreiyu then spell manifests itself.

Hope that makes sense - definitely was a long answer!

question 5. If a character was blind, could they use their skill to be their eyes? Magicians use magic, shaman use auras, and warriors use heightened senses. Am I making sense? I hope I am.

I don't really feel like there would be a difference between Shamans and Mages except in the sense that one casts differently then the other. Both would still be able to sense spiritual aura since all power comes from the spirits and such. Um, if she were blind and she was a Summoner Mage, her Familiar could be her eyes. Or, like you suggested, she could 'see' through her Element - but that'd require a lot of wordiness and explaining. While people can have different aspects of the Elementals within them, some Elementals definitely are more predominant in certain characters and the like, and they might not be of your Mage's Element.

Best example I can think of could be that she's a Light Mage and as Lyr epitomizes creation, all living things can be 'seen' by her as she sees their life-force flowing within them.

question 6. Do you have to be a member of the WoG guild to be in this specific role-play.
Yes, but there are no guild admission fees. You submit your Character Bio for admission to the guild and if it isn't accepted you can keep doing it until forever! xd Though if you can write something similar to what we have in the character bios thread then you'll be fine. Honestly, it's just a way for me to organize the threads in a way that isn't like, fishing around in the main forums and all.

question 7. And I am having a frustrating time with my muses, and when that happens I tend to write my posts like I would a book. Is that alright? Its not first person, always third, but it’s a little lengthy. I didn’t think that would be a problem, but it never hurts to ask.
Nope! Nothing wrong with long posts as long as it's not long posts consisting of mainly OOC in an IC thread or something like that. Most WoGers write in the Novelist Literate RP style which I guess covers everything that would be under Literate, Literate Advanced, Literate whatever everyone wants to categorize people who write paragraphs with attention to spelling, punctuation and clear imagery. rofl
