Okay so a little while back I auditioned for the production company at my school. Part of the audition was understandably a monologue. And while I eventually found one that was right for me it took forever, hours of scouring the library, internet, and movies for something intelligent to say.

So my question is where do you look for monologues to try out for this sort of thing? (keep in mind the class puts on musicals, not shakespeare) What kind of monologues to you like to perform/ listen too/ watch?

If it's for a musical audition I think of a musical that has a similar character as the one I am auditioning for. Then I rent the script or buy it. I read through it and find a monologue by that character. It's easier to find something you know then something you don't know. Plus, you'll know the background before the character has the monologue. Or you can think of shows you like and remember a monologue rom that show that you wouuld like to do.

Though some of them are a bit overlydone, monologues (especially the off-beat monologues) from Christopher Durang plays are terriffic! One of my favorites is Jane's "Peter Pan" monologue in 'dentity Crisis.

Also if you wanna play an older woman there are some great Martha monologues in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (there are also some great male monologues in the play too)

But one of my most favorites would have to be a monologue from Catholic School Girls. It's pretty funny (it's a 2nd grader explaining church to some kindergardners) here's a link to the monologue---> http://demoening.homestead.com/Catholic.html

Thanks for the websites they are awesome. And Possessed thanks for the suggestions, I actually did end up going to a site and finding a script then getting the monologue from there, I just generally (unless it's for a specific show) don't like to do stuff I've seen before and know well because of it, because for me that makes it more difficult to make it my own I have a tendency to start doing an impression of somebody else doing that part instead of my own interpretation.

If you hit your local bookstore, most should have a section devoted solely to monologues, so that you don't have to look through all the plays themselves. They generally have books for specific ages, genders, or kinds of parts.
