Yeah the master is a great villian. I think they tried to play him as more psychologically scary because of this Master's parallels to the Doctor.

I agree that the master didnt reach his villian potential in the new series. It does make me think about how 3/4 of the new series had kind of a god mode-ish ending.(rose destroys daleks, the doctor goes all glowy and powerful, then the doctor donna)

The Daleks are getting somewhat tiring- especially since they're pretty much constantly yelling 'exterminate, exterminate!!!' But then again, the levels of cheesiness on this show are getting worse and worse, so I almost don't want to see what the next monster is. Almost. However I am still obsessed with the show, despite its over-use of the Daleks. Too bad they took out the master, though. He could've been used so much more. Oh well.

I agree that they have been overused. However, they are such a fan fav that you can't get rid of them completely. but the problem is that they keep seeming to do that. they should try to introduce some new villains.

I've thought long and hard about this and (for...ooh...all of two minutes) and I guess okay, yes, the Daleks probably could use a vacation. And let's face it, with RTD leaving that's likely what they'll get.
Trouble is, this isn't the seventies. People want their aliens to be convincing, not just people in suits with some poorly stapled on antennae. Given the wildly divergent themes from episode to episode in the series new threats would take too much time and money to some up with. But then, since new Who turned up they've done away with the long-serial format too. So it's just as hard to come up with a villain and give them a decent backstory in 45 minutes as well as shoehorning a crazy time-travel adventure in there too. Hence the over-use of daleks. Their story's simple, they spent a lot of time building them and updating them, and they're harder to kill than cockroaches so there's always a way back for them. I guess it just solved a lot of problems for the production team. The fact that they are universally ADORED by the fans couldn't hurt, either.
That's not to say they can't come up with something just as good, but of the new creatures they've re-used the Slitheen were viewed as childish and the rest were on our side (Judoon, Boe, Ood etc.) But only Cassandra really provided a quality villain-and ironically that was probably because she was, essentially, a human character. Same with the Master. And Davros. AND the cyber-controller. Let's face it, the recurring baddies on the show outside the daleks are nearly ALWAYS human. Which brings me to my point.
Bring back Mr.Finch already, dammit D:

I understand it's hard to come up with a quality villian in 45 minutes but still they could try a bit harder. It doesn't have to be completely alien it could an incredibly evil human or something.
I just can't stand relying on the same plot over and over.

Keeper1st Well, there WAS a contest for making a Doctor Who monster; that's where the Abzorbaloff came from. ...granted, it was a contest for children. Perhaps a contest open to all ages could be more interesting. I entered a Doctor Who monster competition years ago - and won a pack of felt-tip pens and a badge. Still got the badge, and made good use of the pens biggrin Given that the Daleks and the Time-Lords were supposed to have been wiped out, it's surprising no-one has moved in to take advantage of the power-vacuum. It'd be interesting to see how universal politics would be affected.

Cyber-control devices in electronic gadgets, Auton-animated plastic products, the communcation networks devised by Lumic and the Master, ATMOS...

I do understand that there is a valid point of humans becoming almost completely reliant on technology. But this is getting old quick. It's on thing to use a form of technology disguised as regular Earth tech to try and take over but to do it in the exact same fashion is annoying

Well it's not really Doctor who anymore if there is not at least one episode per series without a dalek, now is it?
