Introduction

Hey everyone, let's just get this out of the way. READ EVERYTHING. I'll know if you didn't more than likely, because you'll end up doing something wrong. And that makes for an unhappy Ross-sama.
I know it's been awhile since the last event, but here's another. So let's try to make this one more of a success than last time! Hopefully there are some new people joining us this time. I'll just introduce myself as Ross, the almighty judge, creator, and sovereign of all events and contests. Feel free to ask me questions, but please ask via pm or in the OTHER threads, not this one. The contents of your post in this thread should be professional.
This is a writing contest meant to test your skills as a writer. If you are a writer, an author, or just someone who would like to test their skills, this is a perfect contest for you. The requirements are to COMPLETELY read the instructions and anything else that I post.

If anyone needs a full example of what they're writing should look like, or would just like to see a full example, then click the picture below to check out my own work which follows all the guidelines of this contest. (Right now it's a work in progress, but feel free to check it if you need to.)

Rules

Obviously there have to be some rules applied, otherwise things could get out of hand. There will be absolutely None of the following:

- Stealing other people's ideas
- Arguing with the judge (step off it man)
- Being rude or telling someone that their entry sucks
- No fanfictions
- No spoofs
- No more than one post per person
- No late entries

The above are one part of the rules... The rest of the rules are as follows:

- Use correct spelling and grammar
- Follow all instructions
- Follow the rules
- Ask questions if you are unsure
- Characters must be 100% your own

I reserve the right to, at any time, change the rules without notice. But I'm a nice guy so don't worry about that. I'm only an a** when someone deserves it.

Be original with your work. Don't create "all too similar characters" that reflect on copyrighted characters in the media. (Media is books, advertisements, radio, TV, et cetera) Points will be taken off if your work is too similar to something I've seen or heard of. You can pm me and ask questions if you're not sure. And lucky be the guy who cheats and uses a similar character that I don't catch. But that shouldn't happen.
And here's something that's very important. As a writer myself, I can understand the hatred and anger plagiarism can create. So here's a special shout-out to people who have evil, vile, cheating thoughts in the back of their minds.
If I find you cheating by using someone else's work, I will make your life hell on Gaia. Plagiarism is a no-no. So don't do it.

Judging

Of course, I will be the only judge... hence the 'Almighty Sovereign' title. That means I will not be entering this contest. (Awww, yes sad I know.) But I have been known to make entries just because I think the idea is fun and want to give it a shot. So if you see an entry by me, don't get upset. There's no way I can win because I'm the judge, and since I'm a fair judge I'm disqualified. But hey, I like to try.
You will be given the chance of making thirty points. Each mistake will count off as follows:

All too similar characters = 3 pts
Grammatical Errors = 5 pts PER error
Spelling mistakes = 5 pts PER error
Otaku speak = 5 pts per word
Star Writing = 8 pts PER phrase
Improper length = 15 pts
Chat speak = 20 pts PER sentence written.(I HATE chat speak)
Stealing ideas = Disqualification
Graphic Sex Scene = Disqualification
Fanfiction = Disqualification
Rewrites of your RP character's experiences = Disqualification

Wow. Be careful about those rules! It could seriously damage your score! Ah, but that's not the entire scoring system. Also, originality. I know something special when I see it. It's actually possible to make more than a thirty if you do a really great job. Just make sure you have fun.
Again, I reserve the right, to at any time, change the grading system. It's my contest... And I do what I want. But trust me, I'm a nice guy so no worries.

What You're Writing

So now the question that matters the most! "What am I writing about?" This is a fun contest, guys, and for all the participants, you can write about whatever you want. However... There are pre-selected items that you MUST include in your writing. They are as follows:
-Settings
-Objects
-Characters involved

The next post contains the lists, from which you must choose. Follow the instructions for each list.

Lists

Here we go guys. This is the fun part. Follow the instructions. You must select TWO settings or places in which your story must take place. One of the two must be the MAIN setting, meaning the majority and important parts of the story must take place at that setting. You must select AT LEAST ONE important item, but you may have up to three.
(Yeah we call that extra credit, just in case you weren't paying attention). The important items must have an important purpose in your story, and they need to appear throughout the story. The main theme of the story should revolve around these items, or at least one. You must select at least ONE character that your main character comes across and meets. However, you can add as many of them as you would like. Read the descriptions in the lists for a complete and full understanding. If you still have questions, please pm me.

-Senile old person
-King obsessed with sugar cubes
-Wizard that can make people disappear, but has no control where he sends them

Alright, there you go. There's your huge list of things to choose from. What about length? Here's the important thing. Your story must be at LEAST FIVE PARAGRAPHS LONG. That's about the size of a standard English class paper, and that's not hard at all. Before you try to squeeze out of that, a paragraph contains 5 or more WELL WRITTEN sentences. So I'd better see some good writing. You say 'what about the length'? Oh well that's easy to explain. You can have it as long as you want, but no shorter than previously discussed. Any length beyond that is fine. I don't care if it's worthy of being a 657 page book! The point is to write, and write you shall.

And before you ask about the weird s**t, I had consumed about five different cans of soda including code red, root beer, and coke before/during writing the lists, which were written on paper before I put them on the computer. So yeah, some things are completely random and retarded, but that's fine. Anyways, have fun. Any questions, please pm me. Now you've only got a few more posts to go. Keep reading!

Final (Instructions)

Wait a minute Ross-sama!!! What about deadlines!!!???

Deadlines, huh? Yes, there is a deadline. You are free to post your entry whenever you wish. Yes. POST. Post your work in this forum with your username at the top. Yeah I know your username is right next to your entry, but I'd like your name on the top. So do it.
The deadline (in other words 'get it in by date') is August 5th. That means you cannot turn it in on the 5th. Turn it in on or before the 4th. Once the posting is closed (I will post 'Closed' under the final entry, and lock the posting since I'm a mod), any entries submitted will be ignored if I forget to lock the posting. NO EXCEPTIONS. I'm a stickler for on time assignments. Now that you've read through this... you've got a little more to go.

Here's a little rant that just needs to be included.
No fanfictions! No characters that do not belong/ were not created by you! You must create your own characters. You may have REAL people, or famous fictional/mythical people (such as David Copperfield, Dracula, Oprah) but they may NOT be the main characters. And no Manga/Anime characters. No obviously similar characters (to anime or manga). If you aren't sure, pm me about it. I'll nail you if you create a character that's too similar to another in anime or manga. And this is just a big annoyance of mine... NO SHINIGAMI. Death Note fans need to chill for a while. I've been running into them all over the place. I need a break from them.

To apply for: If you are interested in joining this contest, you must obviously be a member of A GUARDIAN'S HEART. Send a pm to Kavvana (make sure you put TWO V's and one N in that, because there is another user named Kavanna. She'll be like 'wat da hell?' She's very nice though, so if you accidentally send her an entry, apologize and everything should be fine. It might be easier to avoid that problem by just clicking here to send me a pm.) stating your username and at the bottom write 'Ross-sama is the greatest' so that I know you read everything. Otherwise, I'll take off points... Trust me. I'll take 'em off.
Once I receive the pm, I'll tell you what to actually write on the top of your entry. Make sure you remember, otherwise I'll take off five points.

Now you need to know what your entry pm is going to look like, yes? Well here's an example. Make sure the SUBJECT is 'WRITING CONTEST'.

Username: Kavvana
Setting One: Graveyard
Setting Two: Old inn
Important Item: Old journal from years ago
Included Characters: Three legged dog
Questions? Can I have the dog carry around the old journal in it's mouth?

So, you've read through it all. W00t! Now hurry up and go start on that entry! But don't forget to send me a pm if you want to turn in some work. I won't pay attention to your entry if you don't go through proper procedure. I realize this is a bit strict but, wow... In life you've got to do things a certain way.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!

Before you go, don't you want to know what the PRIZE is? PRIZE!? HOMGZLOLZBBQPWNZPRIZE!
Yes, there is a prize. There's a prize of 3K for the winner. And also the happiness of knowing you beat everyone else and you're awesome. Wait, it's about having fun and improving your skills, not winning... >.>
*cough* Alright then! Have at it!

The_Green_Bard

Entry #1

Jennifer Bifrond snuck quietly into the old wine cellar. Her parents were probably asleep by now, so she was probably safe as long as she kept quiet. She just had to get a bit of the vintage for her party tomorrow. Her parents never came down here so they wouldn’t notice. She couldn’t believe how dusty the place was. She had to stifle several sneezes as she worked her way to the back.

Soon she reached the back and started looking for the oldest wine she could find. After a few minutes she found one. The label said 1926. She decided to try it out and see if it really was as good as everyone said. She clumsily attempted to pull the cork out with her bare hands. With one powerful tug she pulled the bottle out of her hand and it flew across the room. It landed with an audible smash.

Jennifer rushed towards it and hurriedly picked up the broken glass. The top half of the bottle was mostly intact, so she used it to carry the rest of the glass. She was too preoccupied to notice the strange golden mist rising from the spilt wine. By the time she had finished picking up glass the mist had faded. She looked towards the door. Her parents hadn’t noticed the noise yet. She let lose a sigh of relief and headed to the door.

When she got closer to the door, she remembered what she was doing before she dropped the bottle. She decided to just take a bottle from a nearby shelf instead. However, as she reached for the bottle the door to the cellar was flung open. She jumped backwards from surprise, nearly dropping the bottle again. Nobody had come in, but some kind of blue light was shining outside of it. She couldn’t quite make out what it was.

She walked back out the door and looked around. Her mouth fell open. Everything was made of blue crystal. She looked confusedly at everything. She appeared to be in a wood of some sort. It was full of many large trees. She noticed a few birds fly by. They weren’t crystal. They looked like they were made of some gold mist.

She walked through the wood feeling trees as she walked by. They were cold and hard. She sighed. It really was a lovely place once she got used to it. After a few minute of walking she noticed something in the distance. It appeared to be a mansion. It was hard to make out, but it had a wooden drawbridge that stood out among all the crystal trees. She began running towards it. With luck someone there could explain to her what was going on.

When she arrived at the drawbridge she stopped. How was she going to get it open. She had to figure out a way to alert the people inside. She rummaged around for something she could throw. She managed to find a fairly large rock. She put down the bottle and hefted the rock up above her head. She then threw it towards the bridge with al the strength she could muster. Unfortunately it didn’t reach. Instead it landed in the moat with a loud smash.

Jennifer looked at the moat confusedly. She tapped on it lightly with her right hand. It was crystal too. It was just a darker blue color. She chuckled slightly at the fact that she hadn’t noticed it before. She picked up the broken wine bottle and walked carefully across it. She then pounded on the bridge that she now realized was simply a gate.

The gate opened slowly inward and Jennifer walked in. The castle interior was very colorful. It was mostly white, but it had many yellow and red crystals hanging from the walls. Jennifer looked at the floor and noticed she was standing on a line of red crystal designed to look like a carpet. She looked around the halls and noticed many people walking about in noble clothes. However on closer inspection they appeared to be made of the same golden mist as the birds she saw before. Everywhere she looked was beautiful.

Suddenly a voice yelled,” Come here girl.” Jennifer looked up the stairs in the center of the room and noticed a man in armor calling her. She walked slowly up the stairs. “What is it?” she asked him confused.

The man pointed to a throne nearby and said,” The king wishes to see you.”

Jennifer walked to the throne but nobody appeared to be sitting on it. She turned back to the man and asked, “Where is he?”

Suddenly a man wearing a large crown stepped clumsily out from behind the throne. He raised his hands in greeting and shouted, “Welcome to my kingdom.”

Jennifer just stared at him as he wobbled into his throne. He appeared to be drunk. “Umm…Are you the king?” she asked shyly.

“Yesh I am,” he said drunkenly,” I am King Fernando, the king of wine spirits! I wanted to thank you for freeing me from that bottle. Sho I brought you here to give you a reward.” He attempted to clap his hands, but he missed and fell off his throne. A guard nearby shook his head and clapped his hands. A man in dressed in colorful blue cloth approached with a velvet pillow in his hands. On the pillow there were many yellow crystal coins.

The king climbed back onto his throne and looked back at Jennifer. “Go ahead and take ‘em.” Jennifer reached for the crystals and tried to grab them. However she stumbled and knocked them to the ground. They shattered as they fell. The king looked at her insulted. “You dare reject my gift,” he said angrily. Suddenly several guards approached her and readied their swords. Jennifer shrieked covered her face with her arms.

The guard noticed the bottle in her hand and backed away. The king walked back and fell over his throne. Jennifer looked around confused. Why were they backing away? The king was cowering behind his throne. “What are you doing with that?” he said frightened.

Jennifer realized he was pointing towards the bottle. They were afraid of it. She held in front of her like a sword and waved it around. The guard backed away further. She slowly approached the king. He put his back against the wall. “P-pleashe don’t put me in there again.” Jennifer praised the fact that they didn’t understand the concept of a broken bottle. :Umm.. I won’t if you do something for me,” she said trying badly to sound threatening.

“Of courshe anything you want.”

“Okay, umm. First can I get some more of those crystals?”

“Yesh yesh,” the king said nodding rapidly. He handed her some of the crystals from before.

“And could you also send me home?”

The king nodded. “Sure that’s easy.” He clapped his hands together clumsily and a small portal opened. It appeared to lead back to the wine cellar. Jennifer walked slowly towards it. “Okay then. I guess I’ll just leave.” She stepped into the portal and lowered the bottle to her side. The king clapped his hands again and the portal closed.

Jennifer laid down on the floor of the cellar and sighed. After a minute she stood up and headed back up the stairs to her room. She put the broken bottle and the crystal on her vanity. She wanted to be sure when she woke up that it wasn’t all a dream.

Realdarkj

Entry #2

Driven away from humans who knew of his devilish intentions. Running through a forest where the trees hugged each other. The site of burning torches slowly faded into the darkness. Safe from the harms of the mortals, but now he was lost.

Thump!, sound of a foot hitting a root. Flying through the branch's, landing on soft padded grass. The dark creature was stunned, the fall stealing any air he had in his lungs. Traces of dirt covered his torn coal dark pants, which hung from a thick leather belt. Brushing himself up onto his feet, brushing off his arms that were covered in demonic tattoos.

Bright sparkles caught his eyes, causing him to tilt his head up. There set a body of water which seemed to glow mystical. A rock layered waterfall, led streams of water into this pond. Even as the water entered, it stayed completely calm. This water seemed to calm and relax the creature that fallen into its grace.

The creature sat down next to the water, taking in its calming aura. Closing his eyes and lifting his head back, seeming to enjoy the scent that was becoming stronger. The water began to brighten to a snowy white, shining brightly out in all directions. Eyes opening suddenly and looking down into the changing water, the creature became alarmed.

From the depths of the shallow pond, a figured a merged. Slowly rising out of the water, yet did not have a hint of dampness on it. A figure of a hand raised out toward the dark creature. The creature, calmly grabbed the hand of light. Then in a flash, he was pulled into the water and all went white.

Seeming to float in white space, nothing but himself. Specks of blue formed, slowly getting bigger. Soon the two colors formed a fluffy texture, light appearing down onto it. Lights became gold and flood the surroundings in it. Revealing more of the endless area of white.

From behind the creature the same figured appeared. Floating around the dark creature, taking on more of a familiar shape. Petite, curved body leading up to long flowing hair that glowed like the light. Her Feminine body rolled close to the creatures, softly touching his shaded skin. Raising her hand, offering it to the creature once again.

The creature gave off a smile and grabbed the girls hand. They were smaller than his own and silky smooth. The girl's feathery wings had spread and glided them away. The sharp dark colored wings attached to the creature, dragged along without a sense of resistance.

Incredibly, the space of white disappeared into a lush valley of flowers. No ordinary flowers, they were much different. The flowers faded colors in a synchronized wave. Each flower gave off a wonderful scent, and together it was powerful.

The girl pulled the creature into the bed of flowers, and rolled around. A trail of bent flowers followed them, but soon faded when they slowly straighten. She ended up on top of him, looking him in the eyes. Picking a flower by her hand and stuffing it in the creatures long black hair. He smiled back at here and rolled over. Now on top, he looked down at the giggling girl. Feeling a strange feeling he had never felt before in his body. She leaned up towards him, and he leaned down in response. They continued this till there lips touched. His eyes closed as he locked lips with the girl.

Suddenly, the feeling was gone. All the warmth, brightness, sweetness of that girl had all disappeared. Slowly opening his eyes, and was stricken with fright. He pushed himself off the dirt of the ground and turned his body. Seeing an ordinary body of water, no glow or sweet scent. Rushing towards the water and dunking his hand in, but stopped when his hand hit the bottom of the shallow water. Sitting back, cumming to deal with what must have been a dream. When he looked something was touching his head. Hovering his head over his hair, stopping to feel something tangled in it. Bringing it down to his face, which returned his feelings he had lost. A flower that faded into colors...

Feelings remained as he looked up into the clouds, smiling and waving back to someone he had come to know.

Hey guys, time for me to close the event for posting. I'll judge as soon as possible. Right now I'm at the library borrowing their computers... oh god I must love Gaia a little too much. Ah no actually it's because I said I'd do this contest and I got grounded before I could finish it. That's right... I got grounded earlier this Tuesday. For what? Staying out too late with my date.
But I just needed to apologize to the two of you. You WILL be judged, and someone WILL recieve a prize. I will not deny that of you. Supposedly I'm grounded from ELECTRONICS (nothing else just electronics) for two weeks, but yeah... again I'm using the library computer and mother might POSSIBLY let me off a week early if I'm a good little boy. *sighs*
Anyways... Apologies again. Kavvana will give both of you 1K to apologize. *nods*

When God said 'Let there be light'...

Well I've gotten the results in...
I've read both of the entries and enjoyed them both. After checking the entry forms and making sure they both contained the subjects they chose, I checked the scores and realized it would be down to both score AND my personal opinion.
While Dark's story appealed to me more in terms of 'subject' (because I obviously enjoy dark tales), Bard's story appealed to me more in terms of 'format'. After carefully thinking it over, I finally decided that The_Green_Bard (Entry #1) is the winner of this contest, and shall receive a prize of 3K.
Thank you guys for joining me in this contest, and for holding on until I finally got back on Gaia. I apologize again.
If you have any questions about your entry, about how I judged, or would like to hear comments from me, pm me and I will gladly answer.
Please continue to write and have fun.

-Ross W.
