Do you believe the US government is doing it's best as far as how we use energy in this energy crisis? What could they do or not do? Are we too dependent on oil? What should our alternatives be and how can the US Government implement them?
Baby Spoon: What can normal citizens (like you and me) do to help the energy crisis?

Ok, good topic first off...
Global warming is already happening, there's no way we can stop it. However, there are ways we can slow it down. I myself drive a Honda, a very fuel efficient car. We need to look to alternative forms of fuel for vehicles. I for one am pissed at how they go about wanting to shut down coal power plants, mainly cause my dad works in the field. They are already and have been working on a cleaner and more greener way of burning it. It is by far our most abundant form of fossil fuel.
Our leading natural export right now is coal, so that'd only take money away from the government. Solar energy works, it's been proven yes, but it's somewhat costly to build plants for solar power. Nuclear power is dangerous, don't want it here at all. Hydroelectric is probably the cleanest way to get energy right now. The only downfall with that is that you have to have water, imagine that. A state that's in a drought trying to build up and push for hydroelectric powers, might be difficult, as I would think.
If you ever get a chance, go out and watch "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore. It basically goes over global warming and some of the energy criss points we face.
On oil.. we would have plenty yes. but we use it for so much. A lot of the oil spots haven't been drilled, why? They are protected under the National Park laws, you cannot drill on them, excavate without permit, or stuff like that. I would like to thank Nixon for that, I believe it was in his term that that law was passed and he pushed for it.

I think we are in a horrible energy and water crisis (in California).
Hydroelectric would be perfect for transportation. I even downloaded a do-it-yourself guide to convert my toyota carolla.
As for housing energy... I think the government needs to offer incentive plans, coupons or payment plans based on income for a nationwide installation of solar panels on the rooftops. At least it would work here, in Ca.
The only thing I do is conserve energy at home. Buy energy efficient electronics/appliances and recycle.
Almost everything is recyclable if you know where to take it.
Did you know that as far as energy efficiency and transportation the US is behind other countries by more than 40 YEARS.

Here is something to say, global warming is not real.
Global Warming is a myth. Some people don't even know the true definition of global warming in the first place they usually say "Global warming is the heating up of the earth caused by humans and their burning of fossil fuels" that is wrong the true definition is "global warming is the THEORY that increased levels of carbon dioxide and certain other gases are causing an increase in the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere because of the green house effect" It's a THEORY so it's not even proven yet.
Let me give you some key points temperature sensors on satellites report much less warming in the upper atmosphere (which the theory of global warming predicts should warm first) than is reported by temperature sensors on the ground and data from weather balloons prove them right.
Most of the data shows temperature rising before 1940 which is before C02 could be a major factor
Scientists are paid to prove global warming right? But they get paid to prove it right which will cause some misleading in data. Also a scientific study shows that when you collect data and calculate them the data changes slightly towards your hypothesis . So if scientists are supposed collect data on worlds temperature and if they believe in global warming then the data they calculate will show a slight increase which in data the slightest mistake can change the data drastically.
Global warming is supposed to cause more extreme weather yet data shows that extreme weather has not increased in the past 15 years infact not even in the past century
This is just the tip of the ice berg but let me stress on 2 more points
Antarctica is not melting as a whole in fact its actually getting colder and it's ice is getting thicker
All of the melting in Antarctica is occurring in the Ross ice shelf which was melting for the past 6,000 years
I do care about the environment but i don't care about global warming because it doesn't exist we should spend less money on research on it and more on 3rd world countries, Planting tree's, saving what's left of the environment and solving the energy crises because an Ice Age is more likely than global warming.
