There must be computer programs out there that little children in Japan use to learn their own language.. right? I think it would be interesting to learn Japanese like that. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm pretty sure I was able to speak English before I even knew how to use a computer, so it'd probably be the same for Japanese kids. I've never even heard of programs for people to learn English as their FIRST language...
If you're talking about like...Kanji and vocabulary and such, though...my favorite program is called Anki. It has words that native Japanese five-year-olds would probably know, though, so I doubt they use it over there. It's a great learning tool for us English speakers though.

You'd be surprised what they use programs for. American kids learn english through the computer. :0 So there's a chance they have such programs in Japan too, but I don't know any so... sorry. You can try looking for one of those programs for english-speaking kids and see if they have versions for different countries.

I don't know about computer programs that they would use... but I can tell you that there are television shows that teach it. I have a feeling that the way Japanese kids learn Japanese is the same as how English kids learn English: through acquisition with their surroundings.
If their parents speak Japanese, and their neighbours, and other strangers, chances are they will begin to pick up the language from them. Noam Chomsky theorizes that sentence structure is an innate ability that every person has at birth, but in order to communicate properly, one must go through formal training to learn correct diction. "Me go beddy-bye" is understood by English speakers, though experienced people would say "I am going to bed." Both are syntactically correct and understood.
Anyways, with the improvement of technology, children may be able to use computer programs to improve their Japanese, but it would be completely in Japanese and at a different level than a non-native speaker would have. Otherwise, television, school and socialization would be their best means to learn their language. For an Anglophone (or any other person who speaks other languages) the best thing would be to find computer programs around you that can help you improve your knowledge.
For kanji, Kanji Daisuki is a cute T.V. program.

アンパンマン。このばんぐみは子どもたちのテレビのばんぐみです。
英語で: Anpanman (youtube it). This programme is a children's TV programme. Rather basic but hey, at least it might help with listening.
@xXRadioactive_CerealXx: I think what xLady-Missiex means is like how, we learn how to spell and learn the grammatical functions of English and sometimes even pronunciation. Maybe not all computer programmes have this but TV certainly does. I mean look at Sesame Street. Is that not educating the population about English? Japanese have pretty much the same things. It all subliminal but its there. Not trying to say you're wrong or trying to be hasty just simply saying what is probably true.

I think that Japanese kids learn Japanese because they hear it so much from their parents and just pick up some words that they can say.

I think u are talking about kanji, japaness children lear kanji as they advance in school, each grade has a grade of kanji, To learn kanji cost them many years inclusive being japanesses. That`s what my jappanesse teacher said me and she gave me as a present a book called "Kanji al completo" in spanish. She said me too, is really hard to use a jappanesse dictionary, only the higgest grade students use it more easily.
And of course there is some computer programs to learn kanji, ussually is used as random cards, depending wich grade of kanji u selected. It`s funny and u can learn better by sseeing the kanji and knowing the order in wich u must write each character ( ^^' Really there is an order). Maybe this can be heplful 4 u !!

i think japanese kids learn the same way that american kids learn they learn how to speak from copying their parents you know how when you want a cookie your parents were like cookie and you say cookie and then they give you a cookie like that. then they learn how to write by going to school like in pre-school you write A B C and such.thats how i think everyone learns their language
