“Hurry up and get in We’re in a hurry To get to where we’re going.”
The scenery flicks by at 100 miles a tick. Blurred buildings and trees Smear themselves desperately upon the window. I don’t remember getting in.
“Where are we going?” “To the bookstore, to relax.” I glance out the window As the bookstore shoots by.
“Where are we going?” “To the mall to Have a good time.” The mall stretches the length of a Moment as it, too, is gone.
“Where are we going?” “To the bar to Pick up a stranger With a false smile and A bottle of wine.” Empty space, where the bar Had been just a second ago.
“Where are we going?” “To find the love of our lives.” We pass a man on the corner, thumb sticking up, With a hungry chest And red roses in his eyes.
“Where are we going?” “To enjoy the company Of our friends.” Nameless faces Flicker by.
“Where are we going?” “To see our children grow up.” A small boy runs in front of us Chasing a ball across the street. It is a narrow miss.
“Where are we going?” “To enjoy our families.” “Where are we going?” “To our second honeymoon.” “Where are we going?” “To a better house.” “Where are we going?” “To enjoy our retirement.” “Where are we going?” “To heaven, Because that’s where everyone goes (if you’re ‘good’).”
“Where are we going?” “Where are we going?” “Where are we going?”
An empty blankness is all that I see.
“Home.”
Home. The road has left us. The compass spins like a flag in a gale.
“You’re lost, aren’t you?” “Aren’t you?”
Rigid hands on the steering wheel. The pull of pure speed tugging on the car.
“Where are we going?”
“I want to stop now.” “I want to stop.” “We can stop when we get there….” “I have to stop.” The tires screech As the foot slams on the gas pedal.
“Where are we going?” “I think we passed it.”

And somehow I could never make my way back to the man with roses in his eyes. There are lilies in them now."

I always prefered lilies to roses.
It looks as if you found your Lily.

Kinda sad but then again not really - it depends upon the perspective and it represents how people go too fast in life to be able to stop and smell the roses. Sad on that perspective but I found it nice in the perspective that this person was able to live.
