I actually make candles. My mom taught me. She used to make them all the time and sell them when she was younger. Back then though, they didn't use soy that much to make candles. My aunt gave me an entire huge cardboard box of soy candle wax. Not only is it better for the environment but it's 10x easier to use.
The only thing I haven't done organic is dyeing candles and scenting them. ~but I'm looking into natural ways to do that. Things like natural flower oils can probably scent them but I'll have to experiment.

Artistic Mystic Candles are like oxygen to me mrgreen Them, and incense. I'm going to die when I move into a dorm for college gonk But anyways..
I use soy-based candles, because of the whole stealing-bees-homes-away-from-them issue that comes with beeswax and with the bee disappearance lately.. I think that burning beeswax does make negative ions too, though; just not as much as the salt candles.
How expensive are those babies? I've heard of Himalayan salt lamps (For about 100-200 bucks a pop @_@) but not salt candles...
And while we're on the subject of candles.. Does anyone know where to buy stiff (Like pre-wax-coated so they stand up) candle wick? I have a bunch of old candle wax that I would love to mold into new candles but I can't find wicks for them gonk You can usually find free standing wicks with metal bases at any craft store by the candle supplies.

pirhan I use 100% beeswax candles, er candle. I just have the one. Instead of turing on the bathroom light in the morning, I light a candle. It's much nicer then harsh light at 6:30am. Oh yeah..I know. I usually just shower and get ready with the lights off or little to know light during the school year when I have to get up at that time. My friends think that's weird but I just can't stand light in my eyes when I'm already sleepy.

You can also do a search for soapmaking oils and find lots of essential oils. I've gotten used to picking mine up at the health food store , it's just more convenient for me. And don't forget Ebay! There are some really good prices on fats, oils, waxes, all kinds of supplies for making your own candles, soaps, body creams, etc. Some of the sellers even link to recipes for you! You can get all kinds of clays, salts, exfoliating agents----I know this started with candles, but once you start making your own bodycare stuff, you'll definitely be hooked!

Artistic Mystic Do you have a website with candle-making supplies? The closest craft store that I've found is over 60 miles away gonk And I don't want to drive all that way just looking for a wick, with a very good chance that they don't have it sweatdrop Try searching for a Michael's crafts store, or an A.C. Moore. They both sell candle-making supplies - BUT!! - they're NOT in the same aisle as the ready-made candles.

They do create negative ions and I'm crazy for the smell. Yum. I also have a rock salt lamp which I got for about $25 on sale. The light in the inside heats it up and creates a nice glow. The beeswax candles that I like the most are: http://www.philoxia.com/origins.htm I'm unable to get them on this side of the country unfortunately. I love beeswax candles as they last a really long time. Just remember to "hug" them regularly (which is pushing the sides down to the wick.) Yeah! My mom got this crazy huge rock salt lamp for, like 100 bucks. It's awesome and very bright! It's about 3 feet high and a foot and a half wide. Then we have a smaller one that was about 30 bucks. I hope to get a small sphere one for myself soon. Then I use all kinds of natural candels. So, I don't really have just one brand to list, but I love them like crazy. >w<
