Deidre Bond was nothing if not tidy. She parted her hair right down the middle and never looked in mirrors since her spots weren't symmetrical. She planted the garden in a way so that when the flowers grew, it would be in straight and tidy rows. And things that weren't symmetrical and tidy upset her. It was her Little Problem. Overlooking it, she was easily one of the most normal members of the Bond family. She had a sense of morals, refused to haphazardly procreate as her father did, and didn't even cackle madly like her brother Orca. And because of this, the family gave her space to be symmetrical in. However, on walks she realized how asymmetrical and untidy the world really was. Such as now. She sat down on the sidewalk and touched her head. All the untidiness of the outdoors was giving her a headache!

Deidre looked up. Carefully. It was too often that she had been surprised by asymmetrical people. Seeing that this one was at least symmetrical, and furthermore offering her a (very symmetrical) lolly, she decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. "Thank you." she said primly, getting up and dusting off. She accepted the lollipop and looked at him, her head clearing a little. Symmetrical people were quite useful. "Thank you, I know..." She blushed, embarrassed. "It's a problem of mine, I..." She didn't want to say 'twitch when things aren't in order'. "...I get headaches easily." she finished. Good grief. She had accepted candy from a stranger. She had talked to and accepted candy from a stranger. "Um... My name is Deidre, Deidre Bond. And you are...?"

Deidre thought about this offer. Going somewhere as of yet unannounced with a stranger who had just given her candy. If she was a young girl, she would be expecting him to say he lost his puppy next, so would she please get into this black van with tinted windows to look for it? She was an adult though. She could handle herself, couldn't she? Anyway, he didn't seem bad. A bit forward, maybe, but not malevolent. She felt a bit of long-surpressed rebellion surge up in her. If Gwin, Orca, and her father could be spontaneous and dangerous, why couldn't she? Why couldn't she do something irresponsible and silly for once? "Okay." she said, flashing a brief smile. Anyway, she was curious. Where were they going?

Deidre blushed, ashamed that he had read her face so easily. She feel into a moody silence as he led her along. Her mother, goodness. She remembered visiting her with her father once vaguely. She ahd talked to her uncle, and her mother and father had talked alone for a while. Then her father took her and left. Had she seen her mother since then? She couldn't remember... Her grandmother had told her most of the things a mother should. It was her father's fault, all his fault taht things were that way because he hadn't been symmetrical. But she shook her head. That was enough of that trainwreck of a thought. Her new accquaintence's enthusiasm was catching. Did she even know his name yet? But she couldn't help but grin as he led her to this wonderful surprise he seemed so thrilled about. He seemed almost childish. After living with a houseful of flirts and schemers it was refreshing.

Deidre looked sheepish. "I don't really have a lot to say." she said apologetically. The person who was able to get the most conversation out of her was her father, and only because she was scolding him for flirting shamelessly. Her company seemed to get more pleased, Deidre noticed. They must be close. He was, she decided, a friendly person. She felt that. It was comforting, really, being led along without having to do anything.

Deidre smelled carnival food. The fair? She looked at the wooden fence and licked her lips. She had never been to one before, and it was tempting to barge in but she saw the look on her companion's face, so brief she thought it might have been imagined. It didn't look happy. She would have thought his smile was genuine if she hadn't seen it. So instead she said "Thank you for bringing me here, but would you like to have lunch with me instead? It's getting late in the afternoon and I haven't eaten yet... I can pay for both of us." This was not entirely true. Deidre had had lunch earlier, but she wanted to give the young man a chance to get away from the carnival if he wanted to.

Deidre was glad to see the relief on his face. "Um..." Darn. She wasn't really hungry, so it would have to be someplace light. "Some place that's symmetrical..." That was equally as important, although if Scaos was going to sit across from her she could try to focus on him rather than the decor. "Maybe a salad bar or something..." Light and symmetrical. "What are you in the mood for?" she asked. "Wait! I can't have you pay for me!" she said at his next comment. "It would be awfully rude. I can pay for myself, it's fine. Thank you for offering, though." She swished her tail. What an odd day this was turning out to be.
