So my friend who has Animal Crossing told me that she has a hair salon place in her town, where she can change her hair and stuff. I asked her how to get it and she just said that if I kept playing long enough I'd get one eventually. I've had the game a year and a half - still no hair salon! Does it really exist? And what do I have to do to get it?

You get the hair salon ( Shamepoddles) Buy getting the last upgrade of Nooks store. To get that you need to have the upgrade Nook way then but and sell a certain amount of money then one day the store will be closed for renovations Wait till the next day and WALLA you got Nookingtons That has the hair salon. I hoped I helped

You have to get Tom Nook's shop upgraded to Nookington's.
In order to do that, you have to have exchanged a particular amount of bells at Nook's shop. If you've been playing for that long, it shouldn't be a problem.
However, you must also have Nookway. You need a friend to visit your town (either by wifi or local wireless) and have them purchase something from your store. You should get a notice on the Bulletin Board that Nook's is closing for renovations.
